Something changed.

Isabella's POV I remained speechless for a few minutes. After all, what could I say to explain the fact that I was in his room? I couldn't talk about the dream, or everything that had happened. I told him the fast truth, of my knowledge of his truth and my worry. "Before you go..." His words stopped me again. By the time I was done, a turbulence of emotions had passed through me, fighting until only one eased the conflict in my mind. As I moved to leave, he stopped me. "And Isabella?" I turned. Even under his blank veneer I could feel the conflict in his mind. Even though I spoke with the utmost sincerity, I could tell he was still fighting it. But he was trying. "Thank you." He said, looking up to me. A smile curled my lips in response, and everything felt so much brighter. I hurried down the hallway to my room. Treasure was awake yet silent, looking around. The moment I reached the crib and looked at him, he brightened up immediately at seeing me. His blue eyes s

Embracing the dark side.

LeoShe looked...etherealWhat was I thinking? I turned to face her. "Sierra told me about..." She looked down silently, but her words were enough to comprehend. Somehow, I wasn't alarmed or afraid of her knowing. Quickly after that she continued. "I wouldn't say a word of course. I have promised Sierra that. And...I don't want to do anything to hurt you." Her words made me twitch, yet I couldn't understand why. "On the night of the full moon, I was feeling even more anxious and I had to check on you." Check on me? When she was fully aware I could have killed her if I lost control? I shared my disbelief and she looked down."I was just worried." There was no trace of a lie in her words, yet I had a feeling that something was missing. Why? I nodded, accepting it yet as she was about to leave. "Before you go," I stopped her in her tracks once more. The question of if it was right to say it or to not approach it stayed in me. "I remember you said that my w

A party plan.

Isabella“Ugh!” I grunted, gritting my teeth against the pain that spread upon my back. Although it wasn't the pain from my back hitting the ground that affected me most but rather, the blow to my pride. I panted softly, letting my body relax. it was a reprieve, even if for a short time.Familiar footsteps came until in no time, Sierra’s face came into view. I fought the urge to roll my eyes at the slightly smug expression on her face.“You're already down for the count, champ?” She said, an obvious attempt to goad me.It was the weekend, and alone in the house, Sierra and I had begun sparring since the beginning of the day, winding up at noon. It started out as a warming training session and had long devolved into a competition of sorts. We were both equally matched and every single win came for either of us until at some point, we simply decided to count based on who puts the other to the ground first. Out of the 26 rounds we had, we had tied four times. I had beaten her 10 times. T

Consoled.

IsabellaTime hadn't passed much since the initial suggestion. A part of me wanted her to let it go, but I couldn't find the heart to tell her when she looked happy talking about it. She would be the best aunt, I thought, looking at how she cared for Treasure. She was already one, but she didn't know. I reminded myself, guilt staining my mood at the reminder of who Treasure exactly was. I had no qualms with the party at all.It was not about the party itself, but the day it was in.27th. That spelled my 19th birthday. When I imagined myself to be 19 years old, I imagined perhaps being trained in my pack, more competent and probably more versed in the rules of a gamma. I imagined I was mated already with Darius by my side.It meant that a full year had passed since I had left. A full year since my life was turned upside down.I hadn't expected the realization to hit hard, but it did just the same. I hadn't even realized that the day had come so soon, yet it had. But who was I to thin

Happy birthday.

For the rest of the days leading up, I spent my time between work and home. The celebrations were planned throughout the week, with Sierra at the forefront. There wasn't much to plan anyways, as it was supposed to be a close knit affair, especially as it wasn't any real anniversary or celebration. At least, not to Treasure. Throughout the remaining days, not one word was said regarding the birthday. After more thinking, I had decided to let the matter go without telling Sierra. Within me as well, I had expended my energy in not thinking about it.It was in the evening that we began.Treasure's celebrations were done with fanfare. Ony Sierra, Claire, Agathe, and I were there. It wasn’t until later that Felix and his older brother came in to join in the celebrations that it was revealed that Sierra invited them. Agathe also invited a few people, as about five younger girls came over. I could only vaguely recognize some of their faces, as people who had passed me food in my early days

Leo changing.

LeoThumpThump thump thump.Thump. thump. The chain rattled with every punch, every kick I gave. ThumpThump thump My entire body ached all around, my legs especially. I looked toward the dummy I faced. What was once a strong sandbag form was now misshapen beyond recognition, its frame barely hanging onto the chained ceiling it was in.It wasn't enough.Looking at the misshapen sandbag, I knew there was nothing left for me there. Turning away while noting in my head to get a replacement. I moved towards the barbells to work my arms out.By the time I was done, my body was bathed in sweat. My muscles were filled with a pleasant strain familiar to me. I was in the company's gym, in the basement of the building where it was furnished to act as a workout center for humans and wolves alike. Not to mention, three days had passed since that night.“Here.”“Thank you.” She said, eyes glistening with tears.I pushed the thought in the back of my mind as I looked down, focused on stripping d

Facing the dark side.

LeoThe sensation of the floor against my bottom felt odd, but I welcomed it.“So I suppose you came here for some reason?” She turned to me.I shook my head. There were no excuses I made to stay there, except…Except what?I looked at her carefully. That was when I realized that she wasn't in the clothes that she wore around the house; gowns and dresses. She was instead clad in a pair of jeans and a turtleneck shirt. A sign that she recently came back from work.“So how was work?” Came out of my lips.Shit I had never spoken about work to her. Why did I say it anyway? But then again, only a few days ago,she poured her heart out to me regarding her shitty birthday, so should it have been a problem to share one day of work? No.Yet the seconds flew by.“It's fine.” Was all she said.“It was really cold for the kids actually, so it was pretty difficult to get them to focus. I'm pretty sure half of them were asleep.”“Ah.” I nodded.“I'm not really bummed about it though. I don't blame

The challenge.

IsabellaI shivered as a gust of wind came from the window. The winds had been getting colder. It was to be expected. After all, winter was here.It wasn't a surprise to wake up one day to see snow falling. It came magical nonetheless, especially in the rogue pack house. From the lights from the houses, the paths looked more like an idyllic village. It was also nice within the Red Eclipse. Yet in comparison, the Rogue Pack's looked much more homey. In the past month, Sierra had taken me shopping in the city for warmer clothes. It may have partly been her excuse, as coincidentally, Damian was there. She made sure to spend time with him whilst handing over her card to me. Now, I wore an oversized thick corded wool turtleneck that swallowed my frame reaching halfway to my thighs with a long wool skirt. My coat was folded on my desk whilst I focused on the window, where the children played.Teaching was no less easy today, especially as the school year was ending. The children, when not

Getting help from the frenemy.

Isabella As I returned home, knowing that Treasure was safely with Agathe in her home, I changed to a warm pair of sweatpants and a sweatshirt to begin training. I began with warmups, to reacquaint my muscles, frozen with unused and the cold. There was no chance of getting Sierra to spar with me. I couldn't meet Sierra today, she wasn't going to return until evening, likely in order to meet Damian. No doubt Damian was also going to tell her everything that took place, or his own version. Thinking about it vaguely as I stretched, a tinge of guilt sparked in me. Damian had been working towards engaging in the acceptance of Rogues towards his pack members, to no avail. This duel put he and Sierra's plans at risk. No matter how it went, there were going to be negative implications. If I won, it may implicate and further solidify the foolish notion of an aggressive rogue. If I lost however, I would have to leave, and they would have successfully dragged out the sole rogue in their territ

Bonding again.

Isabella.By the time Sierra came home and saw Leo and I in the same vicinity, she gave me a look that spoke. Her blue eyes sparked with the words ‘we will talk about this later.’Aside from her mildly fierce gaze, I couldn't read any other emotion on her face. Was she angry, anxious or worse, blistering mad? I couldn't tell.I swallowed the slight lump in my throat, turning back to focus on Leo. Somehow in his gaze, the lump relaxed and ease flowed through me.Sierra cleared her throat, forming a brightened face. “So, what did I miss?”For a moment, I was tempted to look directly at Leo, but stopped myself. After hashing out the details of our discussion, we promised to keep it a secret from Sierra. Only, I didn't know how much of a secret it would be.“Nothing much,” I shrugged, looking at the sad empty table. I excused myself from the dining, moving to help Agathe with the dishes. Despite not knowing my reason for being present she moved along, telling me to do things with a gentl
