CHAPTER FORTY-ONE

Before his eyes, Clyde saw the killer wearing the same outfit he wore on the same days those killings happened. Even tonight, he wore the same thing, walked just like him, and made sure that he didn't avoid the CCTV of the city. He deliberately wanted to leave traces. Clyde knew the answer. He knew who it was. Most of all, he knew that Carrington had something to do with it. He was taunting him. He wanted to draw him out.The iPad was broken as he also flung it on the war, shattering whatever was left. This was his battle to fight silently, he couldn't give out details. And that was why Carrington was doing it because he already knew that Clyde would have to solely fight this battle. They all waited for him to say something. Anything. Clyde kept quiet, rubbing his chin. “Dismissed,” he mumbled, walking out. Most were left in confusion. On other days, Emily would have run after him to try to sort out things. However, she remained seated, having earlier received a dose of his short temp

Heavily exhaling, she drummed her fingers on the window of her car. “Emily, I'll repeat myself just once. Get away from my car.”“Oh, someone is hurt. Don't be a crybaby. You knew that his heart belonged somewhere else before agreeing to this. You knew that I'll always come first and that he would always come back to me, no matter how hard you fight to get his attention. Honey, quit the drama and go back inside until he instructs otherwise.”“What am I? A dog? A prisoner? The last time I checked, I'm neither answerable to you nor Clyde. Now, move out of the way, or I'll move your ass myself. Why don't you go back to your man and let me be?”Chuckling, “don't you want to hear all the amazing things I did to him that you couldn't do? How he told me that I was better than you? Oh, don't get me started, sugar. I'm the only person that Clyde still cuddles after sex. No other girl has experienced that with him because I'm the only one who takes good care of his heart.”Emma's phone chimed an

CHAPTER FORTY-THREE

Clyde was intensively staring into Emma's eyes when her phone began to buzz, breaking the silence. She hissed, grabbing it. It was Allen again, and this time he sounded impatient.“Emma, get to the department immediately. There’s a lead on the serial killer.”“I ran into some difficulty. I’m coming.”Allen ended the call.Emma, shoved Clyde hard in the chest, not having any of his drama as he was wasting her time. He was a big boy, so her impact had little effect, but Clyde willingly moved out of the way for her to saunter to the wardrobe.“You fucking cost me a button on my shirt,” she ranted, unbuttoning and shimmering out of the shirt. She didn’t care if the mountain of a man was still standing there. She ran her fingers through the rack of clothes, choosing a blue top that went well with her pants and loafers. Putting it on, “Clyde, I’m leaving her. Don’t try to stop me because it wouldn’t end well,” she warned with seriousness. “My job fucking needs me.”Throwing up his hand in

Snaking his arm over her seat, Liam reached in with his other hand to unbuckle her seat belt. “You do know that you will have to get out at some point,” she reminded her with a heavenly smile across his face.“I know,” she mumbled. “This is on you and Clyde.”Liam chuckled, getting out of the car. Emma took a second to fix her hair and rumpled top. Before she reached the door, Liam had opened it for her, creating a magnet for more attention. She nonchalantly got out, avoiding eye contact. In a hurry, she went to her unit with Liam walking closely behind her. She heard whispering in every corner she crossed. If the ground could open, she would have willingly buried herself due to shyness.“Nice of you to get your butt here,” Allen acknowledged, throwing a surprising glance at Liam. He examined him from hair to toe, smirking. “Could he be the reason for this Nonchalance, Miss Watson? He’s quite a catch, I must say.”Extending his hand at once, “not at all. Although I will be lucky to ha

I've been suspended without pay until further notice. I don't know what I'm going to do.”Liam's expression turned serious. “Why?”“For some funny reason, my prints were found all over the recent crime scene. Even though I told them that I was with you yesterday, which is the truth, the Chief still insisted that I go under investigation. “ Toning down her voice, “I’m scared, Liam. What if they find out? What if… I…we,” she shuttered. “I can’t afford to have a stain to my name with everything presently on my plate.”“Hmm.” He rubbed his chin. Emma studied him. There was something about his relaxation that worried her. “Liam, what aren’t you telling me?”“There’s foul

After all, they didn't part ways on a good note. Finally, the cab pulled up to the routes that led back to the Alpha's mansion, and Emma got out, walking through the mini woods towards the front door. They had already marked her, so, at the recognition of her face, it was easy for her to get through the guards until she made it to Clyde's wing. After so many moments of gathering courage, she knocked on the door. It didn't open. Most of all, she didn't see Liam anywhere. It was awfully quiet. She tapped on the door again, and it finally opened. “Hey, beautiful,” he whispered when he got back.“Hi,” Emma's hitched breath fanned his ears while she struggled to recollect herself from staring at the mountain of a man in his presence. Morris took her hand and led her back into the party, his eyes never leaving hers. “Let me show you the rest of the house,” he said, a grin spreading across his face.Emma nodded, feeling cared for. It was a beautiful moment because someone was indeed giving her their whole attention. As they walked through the rooms, Morris continued to point out the various features of the house, but Emma barely heard him. All she could think about was how much he was breathtaking. “Can you hear me, Emma? That's my painting room,” he pointed to a large space with various painting supplies and frameworks hung on the walls.“Beautiful,” she mentioned, smiling. Tyler watched closely, noticing that something was on her mind. He smiled sweetly at her, coming up with a better idea.As the night wore on and the par
