Chapter 191: The Warrior's Blade

Renny felt her entire body shake, twisting in small jerky motions as she stood, locked in place. She noticed when Trace and his girlfriend entered the basement, witnessed Aradhon thrust a knife into the woman's stomach and Trace catch her before she hit the ground, watched as the woman's tongue shot from her mouth, stretching to latch onto one of the victims around the dark faerie circle, and still, Renny remained frozen, agony coursing through every nerve-ending in her body.As the dark elves and the gargoyles turned to fight Trace and the woman, Renny felt herself slipping in between worlds, the concrete walls and floor fading, replaced by a grassy plain and the bluest sky. She heard birds chirping in the distance as a soft breeze blew around her, and yet, the magical coils still held her bound in place, scorching her as she stood frozen. Another scream sounded in the distance, another woman in torment. Renny searched for her and could have sworn she saw a young woman off in the dist

Chapter 192: The Warrior's Blade

"No!" Trace screamed, spinning away from the dark elf who charged him to block Halafarin from reaching Giselle. The elf's sword came down, swinging toward the aswang's neck, but Trace shoved her out of the way as he ducked under the swing. Turning, he kicked out at the elf, catching Halafarin in the back of the leg, sending him tumbling forward as Trace hit the concrete floor, the air rushing from his lungs. He wasn't sure what shocked him more; that he did it or that the move worked.Another elf entered the room followed by Kree as a jingle of bells sounded, and a small girl floated in the air, slashing a dagger at the nearest gargoyle. Giselle ignored them all as she turned back to the victims draped over the obsidian boulders, opening her mouth and stabbing at the next body, this time a woman of middle years and a frail structure.Halafarin was quick to get back on his feet, but Trace stood, blocking the elf from reaching Giselle as he stood in front of her, allowing her to finish t

Chapter 193: The Warrior's Blade

Rhychard rushed into the basement, the Guardian Sword held protectively in front of him. Halafarin was right behind him, followed by Kree, Famallumi, and Fitz. As soon as the Warrior entered the room, he heard the familiar jingle of bells as Tryna popped into the room, dagger ready for battle. The first thing he saw when he entered the basement was Renny standing in a ring of black stones, wrapped in what appeared to be coils of electricity, her body jerking in shattering spasms. Her mouth was open in a scream that seemed silenced. Pux, the gnome who promised to protect her, appeared frozen in motion just outside the circle and neither of the other gnomes were visible. Trace stood facing a dark elf, dagger in hand, ready for battle, while a woman, which Rhychard assumed was Giselle, sucked the blood from a dark elf with her elongated tongue.Rhychard moved to reach Renny, calling out her name, when one of the dark elves attacked, his sword arcing through the air for Rhychard's head. Chapter 194: The Warrior's Blade

The white lights exploded in front of her, driving the dark elf back. Then she saw the two gnomes, who had accompanied her from the hospital, leap from her shoulders, bursts of white light exploding from their fingertips as they seemed to fly through the air and land on the elf's chest. She watched as one of the gnomes dropped to the charcoal ground beneath them, sinking out of sight into the blackened earth. The other gnome continued to explode white bursts of light in front of the elf's face, causing him to shield his eyes as he tumbled backward. However, he didn't get far as the ground under him seemed to swallow him. Renny stood there, shocked as he began to vanish from sight. He jerked his arms downward to try and stop his downward motion, but the ground swallowed his arms as well. The gnome that had disappeared in the ground first popped back out and started to use his magic on the dirt around the dark elf, swirling it into a hard morass of darkness until the elf couldn't move a

Chapter 195: The Warrior's Blade

Rhychard stared in awe as Renny lifted Aradhon from the floor as if the dark elf was a little girl's doll. The gnomes leaped from her shoulders, each running after either Pux or Fitz, waving their arms and screaming something Rhychard couldn't make out. The way she seemed right then, he wasn't sure if she would kill Aradhon or not. "Renny?" He took a step toward her, his arms at his side, gripping the Guardian Sword tightly. "Renny, are you okay?" He took a couple of more steps toward her, Renny his only focus at the moment.Aradhon clawed at his throat as if there were actual hands strangling him and his feet kicked back and forth, no longer touching the ground. Everyone just stood around, watching. Famallumi dropped his illusion of a flaming forest, and Trace stood, staring, dumbfounded. Even Halafarin forgot about his quest to send the aswang back to the Nether. The gnomes took up positions at each directional point around the faerie circle, their hands out as they watched Renny as

Chapter 196: The Warrior's Blade

Tansy stood on one side of the bed, while Wanda and Jayden stood on the other. Laci's mother had left, knowing nothing of what they said next would make any sense to her. "What are you talking about?" Tansy asked. The nurses had restitched Laci's wound, unsure how the stitches were ripped out in the first place, this time adding a bandage on top of the stitches to keep Laci from toying with them. She had then sent her sister to get the other two witches, adamant that something wrong had happened to Rose. Jayden thought she was crazy, but Laci didn't shut up until Jayden went to get them."I saw Rose," Laci said. "Don't ask me how or even where, but I saw her. I saw Renny as well. Both were in this grassy field with cords of magical power wrapped around them, hurting them. Renny's was black, and Rose's was red, but they seemed to be holding them in place, connecting them to something. I went to help Rose, but some…creature…appeared, monstrous and ugly, from behind Rose. He said he was c

Chapter 197: The Warrior's Blade

As soon as Giselle was back from wherever Renny sent her, both women collapsed on the cold concrete. Kree was the first to move, leaving his spot and padding over to Renny, crossing over the remnants of the faerie circle as she slumped to the floor, her body suddenly seeming exhausted and sore.Rhychard followed Kree, sliding the Guardian Sword back into its scabbard on his back as he crossed the concrete floor, the sword vanishing as soon as he released it. He removed his cloak, bunching it up in case Renny needed it as a pillow."Warrior, we need to talk about this," Tryna said, her voice a soft musical tone, a sharp contrast to the dagger she still held in her hand. Rhychard, however, didn't want to talk about it. Didn't want to get into it right then until he knew Renny was all right. He knew he might come to regret his decision not to allow Halafarin to take the aswang, but for Trace's sake, he owed it to his friend to move slowly, making sure the right decision was made. Kneeli

Chapter 198: The Warrior's Blade

Aradhon hit the ground hard, the air rushing from his lungs as the dry heat from the air in the Nether battled against his efforts to suck in a breath. His whole body screamed with the pain the Warrior's lifemate caused him, blood dripping from his lips and nose. He groaned as he rolled over, hands and knees on the ground as he stared at the charcoal dirt below him.He wasn't sure what happened. The human female should have been the perfect conduit for a Gateway between realms. She had traversed both life and death and returned to life once again. She was the perfect bridge. So what happened? Where did her power come from, and how did she escape his clutches? He had her, wrapped in the coils of the spell. He had seen the Gateway open and take her.The aswang. She helped them, draining the life force from his sacrifices before they could fulfill their function. She betrayed him, and in doing so, she betrayed the Unseelie and especially Prince Dakath.Aradhon sucked in a deep breath, the

Chapter 199: The Warrior's Blade

Rhychard only had two places he really enjoyed going, the coffee house down the street from him, Common Grounds, and Embers, a cigar bar on Washington Street that overlooked the Indian River. Sadly, he hadn't been able to enjoy either one much lately. Tonight, he decided to change that.Once they left the Leary Building, Trace took Giselle back to her place, while Famallumi and Tryna returned to Rhychard's apartment. Kree followed Rhychard to Embers, settling on the roof of the place as he usually did, and Renny stood beside Rhychard, a rum runner in her hand, while gnomes hid in the bushes. Rhychard held a Glenlivet in one hand and a Rocky Patel cigar in the other, the smoke sending a lingering curl into the early evening."The hospital is keeping Laci overnight," Renny said. "She's feeling better, she says. Of course, she grumbled about the food, but who doesn't complain about hospital food." She sipped her drink, running her tongue over her lips when she finished. "You know, when Ar

Chapter 200: Summerlands

Kayla Lewell sat at her vanity table, brushing out her long, reddish hair, staring at her green eyes in her reflection as she counted each stroke. Her pale skin, dusted with freckles, was a sharp contrast to her dark red hair, but she refused to tan, not seeing the point. Who would ever notice if she did? Would Alex Barrister even notice if she changed something about herself so vain as the tone of her skin? Kayla smiled as she thought of the only male witch in the Cauldron Coven. Alex just left her house a little while ago, the two of them going through some of the rituals that Tansy Paxton had taught them at the Murky Cauldron. Kayla found herself drawn to the tall, lanky college kid who liked to dress all in black and pretend he was so solemn. He had taken to the rituals far faster than Kayla, but then again, he was a true believer in magic. Kayla was there because she needed somewhere to belong. She needed to shake her feelings of isolation in a crowded world, and the coven beat h
