Chapter 31

"Really?" I asked, shocked by his choice. He nodded in reply. “Why?“ I asked before quickly adding, “no offence, but I felt that you being a chef and all that, you would want to take your time in making a complicated and mean scrambled egg.“ Drew scrunched his nose and I have got to admit that that looked cute on him. “Do you always have this thought about chefs?“ I gave a short laugh. “Of course! That is what you guys do. You chefs always like being artistic with food, so I expected that you would maybe like complicated dishes instead of making simple ones." I shrugged my shoulders as I finished my explanation. "That is partly true. But sometimes we like to make things simple.“ "If you say so. But I am not going to just believe you automatically.""Then we have got to work on that," he replied with a wink.I laughed. “Alright, sensei,“ I mocked. “You wound me, dear Amanda,“ he pouted, placing a hand on his chest. I laughed harder and Drew joined me. The awkward atmosphere betw

Chapter 32

So for once, I decided to be patient and listen to my cooking instructor. I was famished but decided to do as he had saidI scraped the spatula diligently along the sides and bottom of the pan. If I could wait this long to eat then it would be better to have a scrumptious meal than one that tastes like pigs vomit because I decided to murder it out of my impatience. After all the time was already far gone. “Okay, how would you like the texture of your egg?“ Drew asked. I snorted. “What? Do eggs also have texture?“ I asked He smacked his lips. “As a matter of fact, yes, they do "Why? That's ridiculous,“ I said before going back to the task he had assigned to me. "Because everyone has a preference when it comes to food.“ I snorted. “Then I guess I'm not like everyone because I don't have a preference. As far as it's edible I don't have a problem.“ Drew laughed at my response. “Thats right. You're definitely different from others," he muttered. I pretended not to hear what he had

Chapter 33

“Are you sure there's nothing wrong?“ I asked Drew again. He rolled his eyes. “For a person who claimed to be very hungry, you're quite talkative,'' he said before gliding out of the kitchen. Honestly, one day, I'm going to have to kill this ghost and ship his body down to France for his brothers to find. Ignoring his snarky comment, I sashayed out of the kitchen, my tray in hand and went to the dining room. Placing it on the table, I dragged a seat out and made myself comfortable on it. I squealed with delight inwardly as I ogled my food. Okay, I've got to admit that my assembled meal was beautiful. Now, I see why Drew always stressed having patience when cooking meals. Food is art. “Are you going to keep staring at the food until it gets cold or you're going to eat it?" Drew asked, irritatedly."What's got your panties in a twist?“ I asked him, taking a bite of my toasted bread. "Mmm, this tastes heavenly," I moaned. “Coeur d'amour, even if I'm a ghost, I think you've forgott

Chapter 34

"Hmm, something smells amazing," Calvin said as he entered the house. Thank God I muttered silently. I was so happy that the noisemakers were back in the house. I didn't mind their presence at the moment so long as it would keep Drew away from me. I don't know what has come over that ghost but the effect he has on me is not something I could describe. His husky voice had sent me into a fantasy land where I wanted that voice to say so many other things to me as it did some wicked things to me with his fingers. Get a grip, Amanda I scold myself.“Yeah, I wonder who prepared something. It smells like scrambled eggs,“ Mason said sniffing the air around him.“Yes, it does. Probably Drew prepared something out of boredom," Calvin suggested. What?! Do these ghosts mean to say that I can't prepare anything? "It would please your sorry ass to know that I prepared it and not your brother,“ I informed them.“Oh, it's panda, I didn't see you there for a moment,“ Calvin laughed. I knew he

Chapter 35

“You're so cute," Drew chuckled. Oh my God, I muttered inwardly, fanning myself in the process. The temperature of the room went up suddenly after his words and I found myself blushing as red as tomatoes. What the hell is Drew doing to me? “Alright, guys, calm down with the flirting, okay?" Mason commented.I rolled my eyes. “We are not doing that,"I countered.“Whatever makes you sleep at night,” he said stubbornly sticking to his comment as being right. "Mason is right, you know?“ Calvin said.“Oh, the ever supporting Calvin. You are always going to support Mason," I said."I dont always do that," he denied. "Yes, you do," I insisted."Okay, sometimes but for this situation he is right," he explained. "Whatever," I said, rolling my eyes. "I needed you guys so I could make the call to Maria," I informed them. “Let's get this over with," Drew said, his countenance changing. Gone was the relaxed Drew who had been flirting with me and in came the tensed Drew. Yeah, I said he was

Chapter 36

'Hello," I answered back. I had to be certain that I heard correctly. “Yes, who am I speaking with?“ The voice replied to me. I cleared my throat, gaining my composure before I replied. “Am I speaking with Mrs Maria de Capo?“ I asked. Drew and his brothers were looking at me expectantly willing to hear the report that I had indeed called the right person. I placed the phone on speaker as we all awaited the reply of the person on the other end of the line. It felt like minutes had passed as we waited for her to reply. Finally, the long-awaited words we wanted to hear were spat out by the lady. “Yes, you're speaking with her," she answered back. We all let out the breath that we had been holding. I believed we all didn't even realise that we were holding our breaths because of anticipation and worry. I was worried that Maria might have changed her number and the person who answered the call was a different person. I dont know what was going through the minds of Drew and his br

Chapter 37

“How is it possible to have two different sets of people working in a company?‘ I asked her. She laughed “What did you say your name was again?“ “Amanda," I replied. “Amanda Price,“ I stated again, emphasizing my full name to her. "Alright, Amanda. Listen carefully," she implored and I did, adjusting myself on the sofa and leaning close to the phone on the table."In the world of news, we have two different kinds of people. Actually, we have two kinds of reporters," she started."Okay," I was wide, ascertaining her that I was listening. Though this wasnt in line with my reason for calling her, no knowledge is lost to me.“We have the kind of reporters that love what they do. They enjoy gathering intenl on upcoming and renowned artists and showcasing them to the world. They like to act as the meeiatir between the Artists and their fans by fishing out the juiciest gossips about them not to ruin them but to make their fans have a certain degree of relationship with them," she explaine

Chapter 38

"Were there three other chefs working with him?“ I asked."Yes, from what I could remember they were three others,‘ she confirmed. “But, that wasn't in the report you wrote," I informed her. "Oh, the report was mainly about William. You see, William was the son of one of my cousins and he needed help in boosting the fame of their restaurant," she said.“Okay, I get that but if they were as good as you claimed why were they not recognised in the city?“ I asked, confused about the whole explanation. "That's because they were just young graduates from school,“ she told me. “They had just graduated from culinary school and the other three weren't natives of New York. They were immigrants if you know what I mean," she said. Yes, I understood her point. It's kind of hard for those who aren't from the City to make it there especially when it involves starting up a business. "So, where was their restaurant located?" I asked her. "Umm,“ she said, trying to recall the address. “Last I rem

Chapter 39

“You are sure these were the names of the Walter brothers?“ I asked her again, just to be sure I heard correctly. “Young lady, I am pretty sure those were the names I just called out for you. I'm only getting old and not losing my memory, okay?“ I bowed my head even though she couldn't see me and mumbled an apology. "I'm sorry," I said."It's okay. I guess that answers your two questions then. I am going to bed," she said."Wait for a minute!" I shouted before she could end the call.“Yes, any other question?“ She asked, impatiently. I knew I had encroached more into her time but I just needed to get one last piece of information before she dropped the call. “Sorry, I'm taking more of your sleep time,“ I apologized yet again. It was something I had been doing often since I called her. Well, not like I am complaining. After all, I needed her help if I wanted to know the truth about what happened to Drew and his brothers. And there was no way that I would be able to get it if I did

Chapter 40

“Seriously, we've all been moving around in circles. What's our next course of action?“ Calvin asked, his voice higher and stronger than I'd ever heard before. There was no response from Mason and Drew. Their heads were both bent down and they were deep in contemplation. Honestly, I don't see anything worth thinking about. The best thing would be to investigate with whatever information we have."Okay guys," I said, drawing their attention toward me. “That's enough thinking. You guys are behaving like a pregnant woman who is in labour and it's killing my vibes. So, I need you guys to snap out of your weird thoughts and focus on the task at hand," I said, breathing heavily after my speech. I never thought I would be the one giving this speech because let's be honest, I'm not that kind of person. I know that they know that and the whole world knows it. "What are we focusing on?“ Mason asked. "Did you guys not hear any of what Maria said?“ I asked them, surprised at the question from
