All Chapters of The Arena: Chapter 31 - Chapter 40

I’m in and out of consciousness. I have no idea how much time has passed but each time I wake, the pain is lessened. At first, the pain was all consuming. I felt sore everywhere. I couldn’t even make my body move. Over time, it became easier to manage the pain but my body’s exhaustion with trying to heal wouldn’t allow me to stay awake long. I have no idea where I am or who saved me. Was it Cedric? Avani? Ishir? “Open your fucking eyes, Tana.” I hear Avani order me. Even now, he’s so arrogant. As if I would open my eyes just because he demanded it. However, since I want to know where I am and what happened, I do open my eyes. When I do, I’m shocked at what I see. Avani looks terrible. He’s always prided himself on being composed, stoic, in control. His black hair now has emerald green streaks in it. A definite sign that he’s agitated. It takes effort for him to keep his dragon’s coloring out of his hair. If the streaks are there, then he’s lost a some of his carefully held control.

After I returned home from the last arena, Kenna was very needy. She never wanted to let me out of her sight, she cried when I’d leave for work in the mornings and as soon as I got home, she wouldn’t let go of me. I started taking her out to the mountains to continue to work with her on her dragon abilities. A year after I got harpooned, my daughter finally had her first shift. I was such a proud momma. She’s a beautiful dragon. She’s a miniature version of me, a red dragon, but she has two black streaks, one on each side running from her face to her tail. Those come from her father. She’s taken part of his black hair into her coloring. It’s beautiful. And, according to Jena, Palila and Ish, she also got her father’s Alpha aura. Apparently when she was having a temper tantrum, she’d told them to leave her alone. They didn’t tell her, but they told me that they couldn’t go to her. They had to wait until she came to them. “Who are you?” My daughter asks the werewolf standing beside us. I really don’t want to engage with this man any more than I have to. It’s risky enough being in a business relationship with a werewolf, but now he’s seen my daughter. If Cedric were to ever find out that I have a child, he might figure out that she’s his. Werewolves are known for being possessive and as a Lycan he would be even more so. I have no doubt he would fight me to get her. Bastian reaches out his hand. “Hello young lady. She shakes his hand. “I’m Kenna Blaze.” “Miss Blaze, you are just as beautiful as your mother.” He says. I see my daughter’s nose go up in the air. She’s never smelled a werewolf shifter before. After Ishir contacted Avani, he and I went to look at the arena again. When we got there, all the lights in on the ground made it look like a spotlight on the arena. From high above the ground, we could see that there weren’t four, but eight harpoon launchers. We could also see exactly how thick the walls are and we are able to see down into the, as yet, uncovered hole in the ground where the supernaturals are being housed. Those cages are going to be nearly impossible to get open. I landed with Avani and immediately smelled Cedric’s scent of spring rain. I put my finger to my lips, so Avani knows not to say anything. Of course, when he walks out to talk to Cedric, he has to antagonize him. Afterward, we flew to my penthouse. We sit down at my dining room table with Ishir and begin drawing out what we saw in order to make a plan. “Were you serious about contacting Kaylani and Zephyr?” I ask Avani. On Friday night, Avani came to the penthouse. I was working late, trying to track the money for Sovereign Unlimited. I had tracked it offshore but I'm still trying to figure out where it has ended up. I’d seen where it was laundered, but that’s as far as I have gotten. When I get home, everyone is sitting around the table eating dinner. Kenna comes running up to greet me. I pick her up and hug her tight as I walk into the dining room. “Avani, I wasn’t expecting you.” “Hey beautiful.” He winks at me. “I got a call requesting my presence.” I frown at him for a moment before looking at Kenna. “You asked Avani to come tonight.” She slides out of my arms and walks back over to Avani. “Avani said he would make sure you were safe tomorrow.” She says looking at him before turning back to me. “I don’t want you to die or be injured like last time.” “Sweet girl.” I squat down, putting myself at her eye level and holding out my arms.
