Chapter 21: The Dream

‘‘Miss Madden, Mr. Bell, we finished the investigation into the fire. This is a standard procedure with all incidents like this.” The first police officer said. He opened the file, showing me the details of the evening. ‘‘Okay...” I said, waiting for more information. I looked at the file and saw different times, the time that the fire started, the time that different people got out of the building and what time the fire was extinguished. ‘‘This is a list of the times of the evening. Normally, the time that the fire alarm goes on will be added. Was it not for the fact that the fire alarm was disabled. And not just disabled, completely torn off the wall.” The second officer said. I looked at them with shock. ‘‘What are you saying? Did someone do this?” I asked, feeling panicked. ‘‘We looked into the camera tapes. Most of them were destroyed but the camera images were automatically backed up by the system. Luckily there was some footage left.” The police officer said. He hesitantly look

Chapter 22: Damon Hayes' POV

I was in the most boring meeting of my life. I looked at the teachers who were discussing the students and the upcoming school trip. My phone burned a hole in my pants. She drove me crazy. She hadn't texted me back after this morning and my fingers were itching to send another text. I didn't though, instead giving her some space. Kylee was in the corner, f*ck knows why. She had to arrange some stuff and had to use the printer for that. For some reason I felt really angry. I almost snapped at the teachers to shut the f*ck up but I contained myself with some effort. The door opened and I immediately smelled Tris. My head snapped up, excited to see her. I couldn't see her yet, she was in the doorway. Her heart was beating wildly and I frowned, wondering what was up. She walked into the teachers' lounge, a cruel smile on her face and her eyes set on Kylee. She briskly took five steps and out of nowhere, her fist impacted Kylee's face. Some teachers screamed and everybody scrambled out of

Chapter 23: Damon Hayes' POV

“That's why we decided to come to you first. We should have a clear way tonight.” Nikolas added. It didn't take me long to answer. “Let's go. We need to get ready.” I said to the guys. I looked forward again, eager to get out of here. All of a sudden I saw a car almost driving into our car. I saw Tris in the car, next to her boss who had a panicked look on his face. Keddrick honked and the car started up again and with squeaking tires drove around us. I tried not to have any reaction to it but inside I was wondering where Tris was going with her boss. After a quick detour by the houses of Kylee and Hailee, Keddrick drove to the edge of the forest where the safe house was. We built it here in case of emergencies and it was the place where we stored all of our equipment and weaponry. It was hidden from prying eyes and only the most trusted in the circle knew about it. We got out of the car and ran the rest of the way. It felt good using my speed again. Keddrick ran beside me, complet

Chapter 24: Who's there?

I looked at my heels and still couldn't move. Everything was eerily silent. I was standing in the doorframe of my bedroom, basked in the light. What do I do? I realised I left my phone downstairs. I contemplated the course of action, whether I should go downstairs and grab my phone, shout Moose for safety, scream and hope someone was outside, lock myself in the bathroom and climb out the window or jump out my bedroom window. All these thoughts ran through my head but before I could make a decision, I heard a sound. My head snapped to the closet where I heard a knock from the inside. A muffled sound was heard and it sounded eerily close to my name. I was still frozen on the spot, shock taking over my body and mind. Suddenly a foot shot through the closet, creating a loud crash. I didn't even move but my head screamed in panic. Then it registered what happened and I realised it was Jane her shoe I was looking at. “Jane!” I screamed and I moved, opening my closet. Jane sat in my dresse

Chapter 25: Jane's POV

The knife hit me in my leg. I fell backwards and I couldn't breathe anymore. Blood was gushing out my leg, my neck was black and blue because of Ryan his hand and my spine got hit so many times, I don't know if I had broken my back. I wanted to drift off and forget the pain. I didn't want to be here anymore. But then I heard Tris scream. I tilted my heavy head and saw Ryan between her legs. Her dress had ridden up and he pushed her down with his entire body. She was fighting, beating around her with frantic movements but it didn't help. It was like he didn't even feel it. He was saying things but I didn't hear it, a loud peep resounding in my head. Then suddenly he brought his face down to her neck and she screamed. A scream full of pain and hopelessness. A sort of strength came over me. My last momentum of being clear. He was going to kill Tris and I couldn't let that happen. I stood up, my body protesting but my mind clearer than ever. I removed the knife from my leg, blood rushing

Chapter 26: Jane's POV

“Jane. Thank you. You saved her life. I owe you more than anything I could ever give you.” He said with a serious expression. I could see rage was still going through his entire being and that he was trying to calm down. I looked back at my best friend, a peaceful expression on her face. “No, I think you saved her life. I'm pretty sure she was dying.” I softly said. “I felt pain. I thought it was my own, but it was hers. I should've known.” Damon responded with a guilty voice. “Look, I have no idea what that means. You are not human, that's all I know at this point. And Ryan or Alexander or whatever his name is, is also not. And right now I'm too fucked up to even care.” I said back. He steered the car right into a long driveway. A beautiful house came into view. There was greenery everywhere and the house itself was massive. A small mansion. “You live here!?” I said with a gasp. “Yup. Welcome in.” Damon said and he parked up the car. “Will you be alright walking in?” He asked me. I

Chapter 27: The morning after

I laid in bed on my back with two strong arms around me, a cool body pressed against me and the most amazing smell surrounding me. Cinnamon. Memories of yesterday came flooding in and I opened my eyes, taking in my location. I stared at the ceiling and needed a moment to comprehend what was happening. I looked next to me to Jane who was stirring awake. She was laying against me, her arm draped over me, the back of her hand pressed against Damon his chest.Moose was down by her feet, taking up half of the bed. He was laying like a starfish on his back and pushed the three of us to the other side of the bed. I looked to my other side and saw Damon, fully pressed against me with his leg over me. His one arm was under my neck and his other arm was holding the side of my body. His head was resting above my head and I laid safe and secure in the nook of his neck. Oh my god. I was in bed with Damon Hayes.“I'm going to have a shower. Be right back.” Jane whispered to me once she saw I was aw

Chapter 28: The truth comes out

The doorbell rang and Moose started barking, jumping up and down by the window. Damon went to the door and got the breakfast that was finally delivered. He walked back with three bags. We stood up to help but he shook his head, signalling for us to stay seated. “Let us help. It's too much on your own. You'll be taking ages.” I said to him. Damon laughed. “Want to see some real speed?” he said. Before I could respond, a whirlwind of movement happened around us. Suddenly the kitchen island was stacked with food. Pancakes, eggs cooked every way, toast, fruit, bagels, cut up cheese and meats, cereal, sweet cakes, pretzels, sausages, hash browns, beans and different kind of juices and smoothies.Jane and I were star struck and looked at the table in a daze. “That's not cool man. I thought I was imagining this shit yesterday.” Jane said while putting her head in her hands. “Jane, with all that happened yesterday, you're mentally stronger than you think. I said I would do everything in my po

Chapter 29: Damon Hayes' POV

“Do you mind if I have a bath?“ Tris asked me.With me? Maybe we can continue what we started this morning. And I can keep you safe.“Of course,“ I said instead. I stepped forward to walk her up but she jumped off the stool. “Don't worry, I know where it is,“ she said and walked out. I felt a twinge of disappointment but that vanished when I watched her walk out. She was in my house, safe and sound. And hopefully she would be sleeping in my bed again tonight.“You feel better now? Maybe you need a snickers?” Jane asked me in a joking tone. I flipped her off. “I have decided not to let Tris leave my eyesight or my house until Alexander is dead. Problem solved. He will get what's coming to him.” I said. Jane raised an eyebrow. ‘‘That seems highly not executable. What's this -very- unhealthy obsession with Tris, if I may ask?” She asked.I looked at the door and hesitated. “This is a conversation I wanted to have alone with Tris. It's a weird phenomenon with my kind. But since you are al

Chapter 30: Movie night

I had one of the best pizza's of my life. This man didn't eat but man he did know where to get food from. After vacuum cleaning all the feathers, the pizza arrived and we settled in. The tea was flowing for me and Damon was drinking double and triple Whiskeys the same speed as I was drinking my tea. Jane was slowing down on her drink, laughing at every typical thing Dracula did and asking Damon if he did the same.“Do you have exceptional swordsmanship?”“Can you shapeshift?”“How come you don't burn to a crisp in the sun?”“Can you control the weather?”“Can you control fire?”“Can you touch silver?”“Are you going to die if we stab you with a wooden stake?”At every single question, Damon sighed again. Apparently he could do none of the above and walking in the sun was just something made up to make humans feel more safe who had a strong idea they existed. “You suck as a vampire,” Jane said while putting her head down on the couch. Damon groaned and put his head on my shoulder which
