Jacob In Coma II

Jacob floated in a sea of memories, each one more vivid and enticing than the last. He had agreed to the ancient process of recovering his lost memories two days ago, and since he had sunk into the soil bed, he hadn't woken up. The healer had warned him that the journey would be perilous, that he might get lost in the labyrinth of his own mind. But Jacob had been desperate. He needed to remember, needed to reclaim the pieces of his past that had been torn away. He needed to overcome the taint that the vile creature of the undead had left on him. If he had decided the easy way out, he knew that he would never have forgiven himself. The first three hours had been agonizing. He had felt his body convulsing, his muscles straining against an invisible force. The spasms were violent, jerking him around like a puppet on strings. He had thrashed on the soil bed, gasping for breath, his mind bombarded with fragmented images and sensations. It was as if every memory he had ever had was tryi

Out Of Coma

Relieved signs dropped from the mouths of the ancients in the room when Jacob spoke out aloud. Kendalf dropped a reassuring hand on his shoulder. “You scared us there for a moment, lad.” There was an emission of chuckles in the underground chamber. “Well, at least he had come back with the memories. I would have beaten him with a laden spoon if he had us worry for nothing.” Raven said with a chuckle, her hands staying intertwined with Caitlin who was looking at Jacob like he was some strong god. She ignored Zendedari’s grunt of disapproval in her head. The man can be so territorial. ‘All males of our kind are the same way.’Caitlin held back a scoff, but she made sure to send that feeling down the bond, whilst resuming marveling at the fact that Jacob was here with them. A part of her had feared that he wouldn’t make it, considering the turn it had taken when he had seemed lost in his memories, when his life force had started waning. And another part had thought that even if h

Experiments

That’s what had nagged Jacob at the back of his mind. He was barely twelve, or was it eleven, so there had been no way for his wolf to have metamorphosed. His wolf at that time should have been a mere gene in his body, not a full-blown wolf that had been strong enough to wade off the full effect of an attack by the undead. It shouldn’t have been possible, but thank the gods that it had been. He would have been as vile as ever, or he would have been dead. “You are right, healer. I am not sure the reason why it had come to the surface to protect him at such a young age. But does it matter?” Amia asked, speaking up for the first time, since they had congregated here. She was sitting between Prest and Rich. “We should just be glad that he came out unscathed. That’s all. I think we should just proceed to discuss the other, Olivera, if he has the strength to talk.” Caitlin shook her head. “That would have been the right thing to do, seeing that it is all in the past, but on our way her

Big Sister

There was a short silence after Jacob’s declaration. Zande opened her mouth, then closed it. She had suspected, knowing that it was only a strong tie, a blood tie that would have transcended the emptiness that was the mind of Jacob before he had met her, and had stayed. A bit vague, but it had stayed, nagging him of the familiarity of the name since he saw it. But how was it possible? How was it that the two siblings were put into play? Who exactly were they? It was as if fate had orchestrated this since a long time ago. She could see the same realization on the faces of the others in the room too. “Your big sister? That’s crazy coming from you.” Rich spoke, chuckling when Jacob glared at him. “I didn’t peg him as a big sister’s boy.” Prest added, showing his pearly white teeth in a real smile, the first since his fiasco with Amia started. Amia joined the teasing crew, and Zande held back a laugh. ‘You should join them, and see how you will pay for it dearly when we retire to the

Selfish

“What are you going to do?” Raul shrugged his shoulders to Nick’s question. It has been two hours since Olivera had left the office to her room, two hours since she had openly rejected the offer of being his Luna. He knew that his comrades blamed him for this outturn, including Nick, but that they weren’t that heartless to jab him too. The only person who hadn’t cared was Jeremy. If anything, he seemed relieved that Olivera had rejected the Luna title. Was he that selfish? Raul thought, looking at the lad, almost regretting giving him the gamma title. He had known of Jeremy’s escapades with two of the slave girls that always fought over him. Olivera wasn’t aware. But Raul was sure that she wouldn’t be too quick to defend her best friend if she knew of this. Maybe he should let her know. He didn’t mind it was petty. The problem was that she wouldn’t believe him. And that was his fault. “There is nothing else to do, if not accept his fate, and perhaps go further with Azeera. I am no

Verity

Olivera picked up another book from the pile that laid on the floor near the knapsack she had emptied mere minutes ago. She cussed for the umpteenth time when her mind deviated to the hurt that she had seen on Raul’s face when she had rejected in front of his core subordinates, in front of Jeremy. She dropped the book on the floor, and pushed the entire log of books one side, sighing. Two seconds later, she was kicking the air with her two legs at the same time in frustration. She was like a kid annoyed over unfulfilled promises. But why was she feeling so bad? Olivera couldn’t understand herself. Hadn’t Raul done the same thing? Hadn’t he humiliated her in front of the others? The worst of it had happened at the party a few weeks ago. He had allowed some stranger to take her outside, knowing exactly why the stranger had done so, why the stranger had made a big deal about the matter. He had known that the stranger had wanted to rape her, to abuse her. Something along those line

The Magic Book

Olivera's finger throbbed with pain as she stared at the small drop of blood on the page. The circle, now darkened with her blood, seemed to pulse with a life of its own. She pushed it away from her lap, and shifted to the other side. Her eyes widened in incredulity as white smoke began to rise from the book, curling and twisting in the air. The scent of lavender and rose filled the room, a soothing contrast to the sharp pain in her finger. She watched in awe and trepidation as the smoke began to form shapes, reacting as if it were alive. What was going on? Her mouth remained shut, unable to say a word. Her whole body remained the same way. The only part staying a little active was her mind which was trying to make sense of the scenario. The smoke solidified, creating a vivid image of a couple standing on a hill. The woman was pregnant, her hand resting protectively over her swollen belly. Her eyes shone with love and determination, and she was donned in a regal attire. Olivera coul

A Blood Oath

A knock sounded on the secret door, drafting Olivera’s attention from the now still book to the door. She sighed, and then checked the time on the clock across from her. It was just midafternoon. It wasn’t even evening yet, and the strange woman was here. Tsk. Why was she here, earlier than planned? Did something happen? Olivera jerked farther away from the book suddenly when she smelt the burning smoke that emanated from it. The book was burning! She looked at it helplessly, unable to do anything but watch as the book burned up to crisps in mere seconds. Now that she knew better, she believed that the book had been waiting for her, had been waiting for someone from the bloodline of the Queen. Bloodline of a Queen? Olivera shook her head in disbelief, and not even her wolf’s next taunt had been able to waver her from such feeling. ‘Of course it was waiting for you, dumbo. You didn’t know any better really.” Could that be what the strange woman had meant when the latter had sai

Exposing Jeremy

Olivera shuddered as she felt the cord that bonded her and Vee. She looked down at her new guard, and smiled at him giddily. “Did you feel that?” Vee nodded, and stood on his feet. He was way taller than her. Olivera mused, taking stock of this new Vee that was never to disappear from her sight anymore, forever, until she dies. “Do you die?” Vee chuckled, the sound bouncing off the room. “Of course. I am not an eternal creature. As a matter of fact, part of the agreement is that your death means mine.” Olivera scrunched her face. She didn’t want that. “Don’t bother regretting it. The deed has already been done. And besides, it's my duty. So, if you want me hale and hearty, don’t give me much trouble by disappearing on me, or giving me heartache when you disobey commands.” Olivera huffed. Already bossy? She didn’t know guards could be bossy. She had seen the way that Raul was with his subordinates. ‘You can be that way, if you choose.’ Verity opined, but Olivera shook her head.

Exposing Jeremy II

Of course, Olivera knew there was only so measurable time she could keep up her hatred for Raul. As a matter of fact, she didn’t think that she hated him. She just hated what he had done, how easily he had dispelled their love as if it had been nothing, as if it had not existed. However, she knew that she could not escape the mate bond forever; only could stall the inevitable. And if she was going to be honest, her wolf had made sense when she had said that Jeremy’s disrespecting Raul, in front of his subordinates, was way out of charts. She could do that because she had been the one personally wronged, but Jeremy… ‘Good girl.’ Olivera scoffed. Verity was just too dramatic. Vee had halted and was looking at her again. “Go on, what did Jeremy say?” Her mind, whilst thinking of Jeremy's disrespect, had also been running across possible words which would have come out from Jeremy’s mouth at Raul’s question. “He said that he didn’t really care for that, that he will take you for hi
