Chapter 181

Amaris stood there in horror at what she had just done. One of the guards came up the stairs to collect her. Jason stepped forward and grabbed Amaris' arm. "It's fine. I have her." He waved off the guard. Amaris looked at him. Not sure if she trusted him completely, but her gut told her that there was more to his story than what they knew of his betrayal. Jason grabbed her arm and began to move her, so the guard backed off and walked away. His mate followed along behind him timidly. Jason took his time getting Amaris down the stairs and starting to walk around the arena. Once they were out of sight of the guard, Jason pulled Amaris aside. His mate came around them and stood in the way so that no one could see that Jason was talking to Amaris. "I think I have a plan to get you out of here. You need to trust me. We have very little time. During the next challenge when everyone is paying attention to what is going on, I will sneak you out from behind the royale box." Jas

Amaris chanced a glance backwards and saw Jason's face. His face showed how haggard and tired he truely was, it also showed his despare at what he has had to do. Amaris did not know all of what he had been through, but she knew that there was more to the story as his mate had said. She slowed and took a half step back. "Listen to your mate. Do not doubt yourself." Something kept telling her to encourage him to move on, and keep going. The line started moving again, and Amaris remembered why she had run into the back of Andreas in the first place. Amaris looked back up in to the stands and found that Anna, Taji, and Lyle were no longer there. Her eyes scanned the stands and she did not see them anywhere. Her hopes fell. However now she wondered what she had actually seen. Was Taji able to heal Lyle or was it just a coincidence? She wanted to know what she saw. She could not be sure. The line moved on slow and steady with Amaris lost in her thoughts. Finally, they reache

He too was thrashing around in their grasp. Sveta was shouting and trying to pull one of them off. Fur started to sprout on Adams arms, and one of the guards slapped a silver bracelet on his wrist. The fur instantly disappeared. The two guards did not pause, they pushed their way past a screaming Sveta, and took him down the steps and through the vampire crowd to the spot where Lyle was being held. "Father, what are you doing? Why are you taking Adam? He is my mate! You can't take him. He has done nothing wrong!" Sveta yelled at her father through sobs. The once fierce looking woman who took pleasure in others pain was now reduced to a sobbing mass of running mascara. The King turned to his daughter. He tenderly grabbed her arms and pulled her to him. He took his large hand and smoothed the back of her hair with it. "Pumpkin, he did not mark you. I know he told you it was so that he could get the girl's powers, and I think in some way that may have been true, but he ha

There were many 'oohs' and exclamations from the crowd. Amaris spun in her chair and looked at the King. She knew that she had seen the carving in the tunnels at the oracle. She had not been able to read. However the story from Homer who had written about it said that the Menotaur was killed. How was it that he could be here now? She was now wishing that she had asked Christos to translate it for them that day. Amaris looked down at the two men that were being held at the beginning of the maze. Her eyes then scanned the maze to see if she could see the menotaur anywhere in the maze, but she saw no sign of movement. Jason moved beside her. The movement got her attention. She looked at him, and he was smiling. She was not sure what would make him smile, but she had a feeling that she would find out before long. The King began to speak again. "It is time for our challengers to enter the maze." The King raised one arm and pointed to the guards below who let go of the two

Lyle was awake and it was not the groggy kind of awake that Adam had first exhibited, but he was alert and ready to move. Adam on the other hand was surprised by one of the hedge walls moving and changing the pathway. He was redirected from his original path which would have brought him straight to Lyle. He had to move down a different path that took him away from Lyle and the start of the maze. The King chuckled with delight. "Oh yes! I really must remember to thank to warlock who built this maze for me. He did an astounding job in just three days!" He said while reaching over and patting Amaris' hand. Amaris turned her head to him. Did he say warlock? There were warlocks? Well I guess if Gran can be a witch, then there can be warlocks too. Really nothing was a surprise anymore. Amaris yanked back her hand leaving the King to pat the arm of the chair. The King took his hand back and clapped instead. Amaris looked back at the maze to see what it was that the King was ex

Lyle was backing up slowly. He did not want to make any sudden moves. It appeared that the King was able to use the manticores from the first challenge again. Lyle continued slowly. Stopping only when the creature looked right at him. Lyle had decided to continue toward the center of the maze when he came to a dead end up the side and had to back track. When he decided to make his move into the middle he ran right into the manticore and now he was here unable to move. Lyle could see like most of the other creatures that he had seen in the maze so far it was chained to stay in this one spot, but manticores can shoot the barbs out of their tails, which means that they have a much greater range than just the area that they are chained in. That potentially can make them more deadly than the other creatures in the maze except for one. Amaris could see that Lyle was having a stare down with the manticore. She was terrified after seeing what they did to those two poor men in the fi

Chapter 187

The minotaur had jumped on the manticore and was wrestling both it tail and it's head at the same time. Lyle could not believe his eyes and was frozen where he stood. Soon the minotaur had the manticore in a head lock with one arm, and still had it's tail. The minotaur's grip on the tail seemed to be keeping the manticore from being able to fire it's spikes. The manticore yowled and tried to roll over to get the minotaur off, but the chains did not allow it to do any more than roll to it's side. The King stood up. He was furious. "He is supposed to go after the challengers not the beasts that are in there to kill them!" He walked to the balcony again and yelled to the archers himself this time. He did not want to wait for the head guard to come up to the box. "SHOOT THEM!" He yelled with his arm pointing into the maze. The archers took aim, and let their arrows fly. Lyle moved around the hedge wall and used it as a little cover, while the mintaur took advantage of the ma

Chapter 188

Amaris turned and started to run as the woman went back inside and closed the door. She was out on a large terrace now. There was a huge stairway that led down to the next level. Amaris knew that there was no time, the King would discover that she was gone at any moment. Amaris ran to the top of the stairs, when she heard voices below. They were speaking in hushed tones, but it was clear that there were several people down below her. She stopped at the top of the stairs and spun to see if there were any other exits from the terrace. Unless she went back in through the door and into the castle, there was no other way off the terrace. Amaris turned back to the stairs, and took the first few steps down. She scooted toward the middle to see if she could catch a glimpse of who was talking. She could see the arm of someone that standing under the stairs, but that was all she could see. Amaris backed away from the side and stood very still while she was thinking of a way past them

Chapter 189

Amaris concentrated on getting all of the soldiers, anyone who is still captive, Michalis and Nikos, and of course, Lyle out of the palace. Amaris decided that it would be a good idea to include Gran also so that she did not need to try and run to get away from the guards after everyone was out. She wished for them all to goto the little fishing village that they had landed in when they came to the mainland. Amaris felt a huge drain on her body suddenly. It was so strong that she dropped to her knees. The exhaustion that followed overwhelmed her and it was all she could do to stay awake. Amaris opened her eyes. Gran was gone, and she was all alone out in the courtyard. Amaris was dizzy and disoriented, but she knew that she needed to tell Anna and the rest of them where she had sent everyone to. Amaris felt nauseous, but took a deep breath and tried to mind link Anna. "Anna." Amaris heard nothing. "Anna. Are you there?" Amaris waited as she tried to stumble to her feet

Chapter 190

When Amaris awoke, she was still in the back of the car. It was dark and she could not hear a thing. She could feel she was alone in the car. She rubbed her face and slowly sat up. The car was parked in a garage. The garage doors were closed, and the only window on the side had been boarded up. Amaris took off her seat belt, which was still on, and opened the car door. She went to get out on the passenger side and that was when she remembered that she had gotten sick on floor. She groaned and looked down, only to find that it had been cleaned up. With a sigh of relief, she stepped out of the car closing the door quietly. She walked to the side door of the garage. Listening, she could hear voices on the other side. She slowly turned the handle and openned it just a crack to see if she could see anyone. She had passed out while they were still being chased, and wanted to make sure that she had not been captured again, or hidden away and was walking into the wrong hands. Ama
