PROLOGUE: LOVE AND CURSES

Lightning crackled violently through the sky and the little red-haired child clung fearfully to her father’s left leg. Boris Rynders, her father, looked down at his only daughter, with her wide hazel eyes and the innocence that was like a second skin to her beautiful frail face. How could he possibly believe the words the Diviner had just told him? That his daughter was a curse to all werewolves? It was impossible!Angrily, Boris glared straight into the Diviner’s white eyes, watching the elderly wolf carefully as he made chants into the night air. They were in the woods of Silver Dawn pack with the moon subtly illuminating the whole area, amidst the charcoal fire they’d made between them.“You’re a liar!” Boris thundered. “My daughter is sick and she needs your healing. I didn’t come all the way from Whitefang pack to waste my time with your nonsense talk on a nonexistent curse. She’s dying, Daqen! My daughter is d

CHAPTER ONE: MEETING THE ALPHA

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to be the original family disappointment? The black sheep? The rejected? The hated? The bullied? Well, I’d be the first to let you know that it sucks. Big time.Being the daughter of Whitefang pack’s former Beta, you’d think that I’d have a life of beautiful roses and twinkling stars in my night sky. However, all I’d ever gotten was abuse, torment and literal hell. I guess it was easier to bear when my father was alive, he used to protect me from the taunts of the mean kids in my class. He protected me from those who laughed in my face for being the only she-wolf in Whitefang pack who couldn’t shift, even at the age of 19. He comforted me even more when I’d found out that I also happened to be the only she-wolf in our pack who wasn’t blessed with any form of magic from the moon goddess. Father had been my solace, my safe house amidst the storm of bullies. However, just like every other g

CHAPTER TWO: BITCH FROM HELL

I was dead. Utterly and inherently ruined. My chest constricted painfully when I heard the sound of our door bang shut at the entrance of people. A shiver went down my spine as I paced around in absolute fear in my room. I was dead. Ivy would kill me and disguise my murder as an accident. “Venus!” She called out loudly in her sickenly sweet voice. “Venus, honey! Come down here for a minute. We have so much fun things to talk about.”My heart thudded and I was certain that they couldn’t beat any louder. As I gradually left my room with cold fingers and trepidation, I met Ivy downstairs, seated cross-legged on the couch and waiting patiently for me. The devious look in her eyes contradicted with the sweet little smile painted on her lips and for the nth time, I couldn’t help wondering what my Dad ever saw in marrying such a cruel woman like her. “Good evening, Miss Ivy,” I said,

CHAPTER THREE: DON'T TOUCH MY MATE

It wasn’t the crippling pain that pounded through my body that woke me up eventually in the middle of the night, however, it was the sound of the door being unlocked that had my attention. My eyes snapped to it and narrowed cautiously as I watched Grayson walk into the room, shirtless. I let out an internal groan at the sight of him, like I didn’t have enough problems already. For as long as Dad had gotten mated to Ivy, Grayson always flirted with me. It was weird - uncomfortable to say the least. I knew he liked me, more than I found healthy or enjoyed. However, he wasn’t different from the rest of them. He has never raised a finger to stop his mother whenever she was having her pleasure from inflicting pain on me. Most times, he laughed. Other times, he’d join in on the verbal abuse. But one thing that had always been consistent was the fact that he always comes back to visit me after the rain of abuse. I’ve never understood why.&

CHAPTER FOUR: ALPHA ALEXANDER

My head hurt. It felt like a ceremonial drummer was having his fun in banging aggressively against my skull. I groaned weakly and allowed myself the pleasure of leaning further into the warmth being exuded from his body. It filled me up with solace and unrivaled comfort.Wait, body?My eyes shot open instantly and I pulled myself up from being sprawled over his lap, like a freaking chicken or something. Oh, for the love of god! The same addictive scent from the banquet teased my senses and in the next second, I was looking straight into the electrifying eyes of this intimidating man.Alpha Alexander - not again. Naturally, flashes from the moment before now flitted through my mind. Vivid images of him pounding his fists relentlessly into Grayson. The blood. The kick. His words. Involuntarily, I edged away from him, my eyes quickly darting around the black refined vehicle we seemed to be riding in. A blur of forests and beautiful views of the ocean z

CHAPTER FIVE: YOU'RE MINE NOW

The second the vehicle came to a halt at the vast mansion that belonged to Alpha Alexander, I bolted right out of the car and straight to the closest bush, throwing up the last content of my stomach. After encountering those dead bodies on the road a few minutes ago, it took a whole lot of restraining for me not to have thrown up then. It had truly been a morbid sight and honestly, the second time I’d ever seen dead bodies in my entire life. The first was my father.Even the Alpha had seemed oddly disturbed when he stepped outside the car to inspect the bodies, returning with a haunted expression that stuck to his face for the rest of our uneventful ride, like something about the killings of those people struck something deep within him. When I’d eventually dared to ask who was responsible for the heinous act, he’d gruffly told me Black Bane, and that was exactly all the answer I needed. Of course, it’d be those monsters! For as lon

CHAPTER SIX: STUCK IN THIS HELL

“What?” Ophelia screeched, spinning around to face Alexander squarely, eyes narrowed to slits. “What do you mean by Luna?”Around us, murmurs had begun to arise as the maids whispered to each other, some going on to either pass me a look of pity or pure distaste. This couldn’t seriously be happening. My skin crawled from their stares and obvious disapproval.“I didn’t stutter.” Alexander scowled coldly. “Her name is Venus and she’s my mate.” Right there, with the unfolding chaos, he wrapped a hand around my waist, pulling me protectively towards his solid frame until we were standing side by side. All eyes were on us now and a pair of green eyes specifically shot death arrows my way. Ophelia bit out a bitter laugh and shook her head like the prospects amused her. “Your mate looks like she’s in desperate need of new clothes and a good shower. That awful smell is suffocating. Hey,

CHAPTER SEVEN: UGLY. WEAK. NAIVE

When the door barged open, I wiped off the tears quickly from my eyes, hating to have anyone see me in that broken state. I forced out a rough smile, expecting to see the maid, June, but lo and behold, it was the wicked witch, his mistress; Ophelia. My smile fell off my face, dread replacing whatever positive feeling I’d tried feigning. Her raven black hair glistened under the bright lighting of the room and her blood-red lips parted into a wickedly beautiful smile, cat eyes gleaming."A pleasure to meet you again, Venice.""Venus." I corrected, annoyance skittering down my straightened spine."You'll have to forgive me." She giggled lightly, eyes twinkling in mayhem. "My memory for useless information runs a little low."Hurt flashed across my face and I sucked in a pained breath. "If…if you came in here to insult me, consider leaving my quarters, Ophelia."She let up now, a small frown marring her face. "My apologies, f

CHAPTER EIGHT: SECOND PLACE

I had been too anxious and jumpy before and after getting jumped by Ophelia that I forgot to talk to Alpha Alexander about his overestimation of my bust and hip size. Every dress I had tried on was ill-fitting and unflattering when I looked at my already plain self in the mirror.I had tried countless times to get to talk to my mate after dinner, but he had an important meeting with an ambassador of the Whitefang pack and he wasn't going to be opportuned until late in the night.I had had breakfast by myself in my chambers earlier this morning but when I sought him out after, he was already getting whisked away by his Beta and officials, never even sparing a single glance at me. I only heard scratches of their conversations that involved dying crops and poisoned water in correspondence with the dead bodies that were being discovered in the backwoods end of West Crescent valley.I didn't want to burden him with my unnecessary complaints but I didn't want to roam

CHAPTER NINE: MY LUNA

I was sinking in a sea of soft silk, stuffed pillows and cotton candy, skating across the edge of consciousness and unconsciousness."Red." A firm, gruff voice called from somewhere in the murky darkness.I felt fingers trace my face, a palm cupped my cheek and a calloused thumb stroked it softly.I turned in my sleep, squeezing my eyes shut stubbornly, trying to cling on to my peaceful sleep and mumbling something unintelligible and grumpy under my breath that sounded eerily like ‘go away.’The hand disappeared and as much as I loved the touch, I loved my sleep better and I clung to it like I was holding on to my dear life."Red. Wake up."Something was tugging at my subconscious. Reminding me that I knew that voice, that I had to respond to his call but I turned to my side, hugging my pillow."Red. Do not make me call you again." He growled. My eyes snapped open at that commanding, authoritative voice. I knew who
