Chapter Forty

"That would be a sentencing I would accept with my head held high and take as a badge of honor," she whispered with feelings. The words and the manner in which she said them, triggered something fierce inside Cole. He leaned over her until his face was just an inch away from hers and said, "You know what? Isabelle, Alpha of the Wulfclan of the Brokenridge Furs, I love you too, and I will be damned if I let anyone take you from me." Isabelle felt her wolf stir inside her - surfacing. The emotions he kindled by his declaration especially with him still buried in her gut was something she couldn't contain. She grew utterly out of her mind with the frenzy of pleasure and emotions unleashed and unrestrained shooting through her body to her very core. Cole felt it too and gasped.Isabelle raised her head to press her lips to Cole's, wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing him hard. Cole reciprocated with an impassioned need that matched hers. When he drew back to draw in air, thrusti

Chapter Forty-one

Here you go, Cole, I hope you enjoy brownies? Isabelle, I thought you would prefer vanilla cupcakes. I made brownies for Xavier once and he didn’t touch it I had to eat it all by myself. I figured it was a werewolf thing and decided not to give it to the little ones. Turns out that was a great idea. Tiana ate out of it and that didn’t go well. But I enjoy it, so I often bake it and keep it in the kitchen. I baked a few vanilla-flavored cupcakes as treats for the pups and used the remaining ingredient to make brownies. I didn’t have chocolate chips but I used cocoa powder instead, ” Amèlie explained. Isabelle chuckled. “It’s okay, I love brownies too, and cocoa powder would do just fine,” Cole replied.“Thank you. That was very thoughtful of you. And yes, we are not a fan of chocolate, vanilla-flavored cupcakes would do just fine,” Isabelle said, accepting the cupcake from Amèlie. And the other lady told her more about Xavier's reaction, causing Isabelle to giggle. Cole turned his f

Chapter Forty-two

Breathing hard Cole buried his face in the nook of her neck, holding her as she sat sideways on his lap clinging to him. She spasms and his arms tightened protectively in reflex around her. Isabelle burrowed deeper into his arms with her face resting on his hard chest. “I need to get you out of here, baby,” Cole whispered against her ear. “You still think he will find me?” She asked and Cole could hear a tinge of fear in her voice. He imagined she must be reliving her nightmare. He raked his fingers through her hair from the nape and pressed a kiss to the crown of her hair. “He can try…” he said and Isabelle wrapped her arms around his bulging biceps, knowing what he meant. The protective way he held her and the hard edge in his tone said it all. “If I leave and he comes here…” “Don’t worry. I’m thinking of something. Let’s just get this Beowulf fight over it.” “We can still avoid that…” “Stop. I am not bailing on you,” he said and drew back so he could look into her eyes. “

Chapter Forty-three

The grounds shook as ten werewolves rushed out of the woods and stopped when they saw Isabelle standing beside Cole. The familiar black wolf moved ahead of the others and stopped. “Leave Isabelle. This is not your fight!” Beowulf said. His voice was a vicious growl that was quite frightening. “Really? Haven’t I taught you to stay the fuck away from what’s mine!” “The only thing I am ever going to allow him to be to you is food! He will die and you will be mine. Stand aside or you will get hurt! And Xavier’s human will be food to these hungry wolves!” He snarled menacingly, every word delivered with the show of his sharp canine teeth. “What?!” Isabelle exclaimed evidently stunned that he intended to use Amèlie against her. “Wow! Do you know the kind of man that makes threats like that? Cowards,” Cole said, stepping ahead of Isabelle, feeling majorly and royally fucked, in every insanely way possible. His entire bloodstream was pumping with adrenaline, his heart was beating erratic

Chapter Forty-four

She felt rather than perceive her brother coming, the ground shook and birds flew out of the woods and up the sky. She saw the white fur of his wolf darting in a thunderous roar through the woods and towards the cabin followed by a grey one. Isabelle pranced forward, surprising one of the wolves as she gripped him by the neck with her teeth and swung him upward. Xavier appeared atop the two grabbed the wolf from Isabelle, and slammed him hard to the floor. The sound of bone, shattering rented the air. The wolf died instantly. Xavier growled loudly and it sounded like an angry roar and a clear warning to any other wolf in the vicinity who might have the bright idea to defy him. Isabelle landed on her feet, and without bothering to acknowledge her brother or Hallec, she dashed to the back of the cabin, following the trail of the two other wolves. She saw the two trying to get in through the kitchen window and were smashing hard on the window wood panels and glass with brute force, desp

Chapter Forty-five

Isabelle rushed to the back of the house in awe and saw Xavier and Hallec holding Cole’s limp body up and carrying him towards the cabin. She froze when she saw the ground he was lifted from. The spot was red with his blood, soaking the sand. Her eyes followed the trail of it as they got closer to her. She swallowed and her eyes became blurred with tears.“Belle!” Xavier called, snapping her out of the horror in her head. “He is alive,” he added in a firm assurance. Isabelle swallowed and nodded. She stood in the way of the two men and said, “Give him to me.” And without waiting for them to comply, she wrapped her arms around Cole’s waist and regressed to her werewolf form, lifting Cole into her arms. Xavier and Hallec stood back and Isabelle sprang up in the air and in two leaps disappeared into the woods. “Where is she taking him? He has lost a lot of blood. I need to examine him!” Amèlie said in a panic.Isabelle heard Xavier reply, “He is Isabelle’s mate. She will take care of

Chapter Forty-six

Cole opened his eyes and felt Isabelle nestled against his side. Her head was on his chest, causing her hair to fall all over one shoulder, and one of her arms laid over his pectorals. He lifted his head from the rock to press a kiss to her hair and carefully disentangled himself from her arms. The sound of the waterfall covering the opening of the cave seemed deafening now. He grinned and wondered at the advantage his newly acquired abilities would accord him now, especially in his line of work. Speaking of work, he took a side glance at Isabelle, letting his eyes skim her beautiful face and down to her incredibly desirable body, and he swallowed softly. He stood up, walked to the waterfall, and swam to the other side of the river. It was dark now, and surprisingly he could still see as clearly as if he was wearing a night vision goggles. He chuckled. His gaze settled on some clothes hanging by a side tree and his evidently cleaned boots were at the foot of the tree. He figured so

Chapter Forty-seven

“Come here,” Xavier urged, patting the chair next to him. Isabelle walked woodenly to his side and sat down heavily on the chair. “Is he coming back?” Isabelle asked in almost a whisper. “I sure hope so. He has my beta,” Xavier replied, causing Isabelle to straighten her shoulders and gape at him. “What is going on?” Cole hated leaving the way he did without alerting Isabelle first. But he didn’t want her trying to talk him out of it, besides, he would hate telling her goodbye. Being separated from her albeit for just a few hours now already made him feel cranky. It didn’t help that he needed someone to get him out of the island. The fact that Xavier had chosen Hallec to do it still pisses him off. “There is no point, in giving me the death stare. I hate the situation more than you could ever imagine. But I have my orders. So, quit growling and distracting me. One would think you are already turned,” Hallec said, breaking the palpable silence in the boat. “I am not growling.”

Chapter Forty-eight

Cole's hair stood on end and his gut tightened with the uncomfortable feeling of being watched. “I suppose as a Were, you can run as fast as when you are in your primal state, right?” Cole asked under his breath.“Of, course, why—?” Hallec answered a tad befuddled, evidently confused at the sudden shift of their conversation.“Someone is following us. I just saw a shadow at my 9 o’clock.”“Your what?”“Shit,” Cole cursed quietly, upset at his momentary lapse. He had automatically reverted to his work mode. He replied, “Follow my lead… What that means is…”“I know what it means!” Hallec snapped back, sounding offended at his tone.“Good. Let’s catch a rat,” Cole muttered and started to walk forward, not turning to look to his side, but he could feel the eyes still on them, and was glad Hallec wasn’t trying to ask more questions; the other man just matched his strides and he seemed to understand the mission. Cole deliberately took a shadowed alleyway, not knowing where it led, but tr

“Bullshit!” Jason said as his fist clenched by his sides. “He is telling the truth,” Hallec said sounding like the devil's advocate. “That’s not the kind of information you keep from your team, Cole,” Jason said in almost a growl. “You don’t say?” He retorted with a defiant raise of his thick eyebrows. “My secret was different! I could be killed instantly upon discovery. I have no idea of knowing which one of you would take offense to work with the likes of me! You knew where a criminal of that caliber lives and operate and you kept quiet. You were protecting him!” “That’s where you are wrong. Catching Alexander Miller was not my duty—” “You are a serviceman. We are servicemen. Catching all kinds of criminals is our responsibility!” “You were scared that you could be killed if we find out you are a shifter? What do you think would have happened if I rat on Alexander, huh? The FBI has been after him and Rufus for years and they still gat nothing!” “You coming forward would h
