VINCENT Maryse had to be cooking up some mischief in her head. The seductive look in her eyes didn't faze me. But, Rylee was clearly disturbed by it. She was yet to let go of my hand and she had a slight frown on her face. If she could shoot lasers from her eyes, Maryse would have been roasted to ashes. I knew she could be possessive, but I was only seeing it clearer in this situation. I hadn't expected to see her at the Bluerose pack. "Are you the Alpha of this pack?" I asked and she glared at me. "What does it look like?" She demanded. 'She's not the Alpha' Rylee said to me through our mind link. 'Are you sure?''She's tapping her feet and she's avoiding eye contact. She's not the Alpha'"You're only going to stare at me? Is that what you're here for?" Maryse questioned, a frown creasing her brows. "Vincent Morgan ?"I turned to see a red haired man with two other men flanked on either side. He looked to be in his late forties."That's me" I responded and he smiled, holding out

VINCENT Anger welled within me at the thought that I had been fooled by Jeremy of all people. He had taken advantage of the fact that I had been desperate to find the person who had been threatening to spill my secret, and I had let him. "What are we going to do now? Jeremy must have known that you would figure it out. He has been playing mind games with us," Rylee said, her brows furrowed. "I still don't understand his connection with Killian," Jared spoke. "Come to think of it, he might have been lying about what pack Killian was planning to approach first," Rylee added and I rubbed my temples in frustration. My judgement had been twisted up due to my personal feelings and I'd messed everything up. I felt that it was my fault. If only I'd paid attention and refused to take Jeremy's bait, the situation wouldn't have ended up this way."I know you're blaming yourself right now. But, it's really not your fault, Vincent" Jared said. "I just need to fix this mess," I said and Rylee

RYLEE Letting out a small sigh, I wiped the damp spot on my dress with a white towel. "Hi, are you Alpha Vincent's mate?" I looked up to see a tall blonde staring at me from across the room."You're his mate, right?" She probed further as she approached me. I gave her a nod, uncertain about what her true intention was."It's nice to finally meet you. I've been waiting for this moment for a while."Her smile had turned creepy. It set off alarms in my head. "Who are you?" I said and she grinned."Melissa Black," she replied and pounced on me right after that. She was awfully strong. She pushed me across the restroom and I collided with the wall. She approached me again and dragged me to my feet, her hands wrapped around my throat. I struggled to breath, my lungs straining for air. Determined not to go down without a fight, I kneed her in the ribs. Her grip on my throat loosened as she coughed. Taking an advantage of this moment, I pushed her away from me, her head colliding with the

VINCENT Rage was the only thing keeping me from yielding to the unwelcome visitor in my office. My increasing wrath was fueled by the sight of his hideous visage. The fact that I was helpless in this dire moment made me frustrated as well. I knew I needed to get Rylee far away from Syke. The last thing I wanted to do was to get her involved with him."What do you think, buddy? Shall I introduce myself to her or will you do that, yourself?" Syke asked, a sickening smile sitting on his face.It was at this moment that I realized what he actually wanted. Fear was his weapon, I was certain that he wanted to use it against Rylee.'Run, Rylee. You have to get out of here, right now' I communicated to her, through the mind link. Rylee moved backwards, her teary gaze meeting mine. More pain rattled my being, nearly stealing my consciousness from me.'Do you remember this feeling, Vince? I've left you alone for far too long,' Syke said to me in a telepathic manner. I curled up in pain as inv

RYLEE Bewildered, I continued to stare at my glowing hands. I was stunned to silence. No one said a word until the strange white glow vanished and my hands went back to normal."I don't understand. I am certainly not a magic practitioner," I said when I found my voice. "We have no clue either, Rylee. We are just as surprised as you are," Jared said and I frowned."Does this mean that I have magic in me?" "It's possible," Vincent said and I ran my fingers through my hair, feeling dazed. Never in my life did I imagine that I would have magic. How was I supposed to use it when I didn't know how it worked? My parents were werewolves. I was certain that they had never shown any signs of possessing magic."Maybe, they hid it from you?" Vincent suggested.I frowned, looking up to meet his gaze."How did you...Did you just read my mind?" I asked."That would have been great. But, no... I didn't. You thought about your parents out loud,"I sighed, my gaze lingering on the palms of my hand. I

VINCENT All the way home, I couldn't stop thinking about what Ryan had said. Syke wanted to use me as his weapon. But, for what? Was it the reason why he'd shown up at the pack house? Was it to test my efficiency? Or was he playing mind games with me? The last thing I wanted to do was to be a part of anything Syke was preparing. I was determined not to give in to him until the very end. "You've been out of it since we left the hall," Rylee who had just walked into my study, said. She was carrying a white box. I couldn't tell what was in it because the box was covered."What is that?" I asked and she grinned, placing the box on my desk. I watched her as she slipped her hand into the pocket of her hoodie and took out a lighter. I observed her as she removed the cover of the box. I blinked in surprise when I saw what was in it. "You baked me a cake?" She beamed, igniting the two candles on the cake. "I did. You were adamant about letting me know your birthday. So, I asked Ava," she

RYLEE My mind was not at ease. No matter how much I tried to reassure myself that everything was fine, I just couldn't get myself to be calm. Everything was happening too fast. I couldn't help but be worried about Syke's unfriendly visit and the appearance of my strange magic. Besides, Vincent had been acting strange, lately. He left the pack house before I awoke and I heard from Jared that he'd gone to see Ryan. "That's an impressive jab," I turned to look at Zeke who had just walked into the gym. "You seem tensed," he said and I sighed. "I have a lot on my mind," I told him as I continued to pummel blows into the punching bag. "Of course, you do. Want to talk about it?" He asked and I turned to look at him again. "I'm just worried about literally everything.""You sure you're not being paranoid?" He asked, his green eyed gaze pinned on me. I looked away, considering what he'd just said. "Maybe.""You understand that you will have to face even bigger foes at one point in your

AVA "Did something happen?" I asked as I walked into Rylee's room. She flinched, her soul nearly leaving her body. I gave her an apologetic smile."Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you," I said and she let out a sigh. She looked nervous as she paced back and forth, her eyes wide with panic. "Okay, will you calm down and tell me what's going on? You don't look so good, Ry," I said and she shook her head. "It's all my fault. I shouldn't have gone to see Karen. I should have stayed in the pack house. What have I done?" I grabbed her hand and she looked at me, her eyes glossy with tears. "Talk to me. What's going on? I thought you were excited about making friends with Karen? Why the sudden change of mind? The fact that you're the Luna of this pack doesn't mean you shouldn't have a life," I told her and she shook her head. "I-I saw Killian Black at the cafe," her voice shook. "What? That's not a coincidence, is it? Did he hurt you? Did he threaten you?" I asked, worried. She swallowe

VINCENT My sister ran her fingers through her hair, refusing to look me in the eye. I turned to look at Zeke and he sighed. "Why are you silent?" I asked Ava who grimaced. "I'm tired, right now. We can talk about this some other time," she said as she turned away from me, her shoulders slumped. "Are you going to keep procrastinating until it ends up becoming a burden?" Zeke asked her and she stiffened. A moment of silence rested on us and she cleared her throat. "Don't worry. Now, is just not the right time to bring that topic to the table. I will confront him when the time is right," she said and walked away. I stared at her, trying to figure out what was going on. Ava had sounded off. There was something about the way she'd spoken that made me understand that she was restricting her emotions. "What were you two talking about?" I asked Zeke who stared at me, an unreadable look in his eyes. "You're not going to tell me, either? Is this some top secret I shouldn't know about?"

RYLEE The sun was setting and I was standing in front of the window in Vincent's office, gazing at a couple of small black birds as they flew in groups. Tucking a lock of my hair behind my ear, I turned towards Vincent who was seated on his seat. His fingers were lingering on the keyboard of his computer and his head was lowered. He had been busy on his system for a couple of hours and had barely moved or said anything since the witch's departure. Judging from his posture and the way his fingers were frozen, it appeared that he had dozed off. I moved away from the window and went to his side. My assumption was correct. His eyes were closed, long eyelashes brushing the skin under his eyes. His lips were parted slightly as well. A lock of hair fell over his face and I smiled, he looked so adorable. As gently as I could, I moved his head backwards, placing his head on the headrest. His hands fell off the keyboard and he jolted. "It's okay. It's just me," I whispered, stroking his hair.
