Chapter 25: Bait

“W-Who are you? W-Why are you h-here?” I asked tremblingly. My body shook in fear as I tried to step away from him.“My name is Nikolas, and you are the precious Nemiah, right?” He talked casually. Seeing his pale skin, topaz eyes, and unusual fangs, he’s probably a vampire. I’ve always seen them in movies, but I couldn’t believe I would encounter one in this world. He was creepy in every way, especially how he looked at me.“W-What do you want from me?” I stuttered. He only gave me a freaking grin and stepped closer to me. I stepped back but ended up stuck with the wall behind me. He reached out his hand and touched my face with his ice-cold fingers. I wanted to push him away but couldn’t move my body. My breathing was shallow, and it was like I would collapse anytime now.“Dubheasa didn’t tell me you were this beautiful,” he whispered as his hands traveled down to my lips. I tilted my head to the side to get rid of his hands. I saw the sunlight on the ladder coming from the open p

Chapter 26: Broken Window

I was awakened by the faint sound of water drops near me. I slowly opened my eyes and saw a church-like shelter. The paintings on the wall were already faded, and there were large cracks as well. Broken pews were disassembled, and some glass pieces from the stained window were scattered on the dirty tile floor. “Where am I?” My hands were aching, and my feet felt strained like I had already been standing for a few hours. When I looked up, I saw my hands tied with a thick rope on a horizontal wood, supported by two vertical panels. I remembered I lost consciousness earlier. How long have I been sleeping? Where am I? Where’s that stupid vampire? What happened to the queen, Caius, and Vivar?I panicked and struggled to loosen up the knot, but they were too tight. It started to rain outside, and the thunder was deafening. I only realized it was too dark because of the rain clouds. If the movies are right, vampires cannot survive under the sunlight. But since it’s covered with thick cloud

Chapter 27.1: The sudden proposal

It was almost dawn when we arrived at Kuu’s cave. We were grateful there was no ambush on our way. My body felt sore and the wounds were prickling me to the bone. Caius helped me ride off the horse and carried me inside the cave. I cringe whenever my wounds get grazed by the cloth wrapped around me. Behind us, Namir just followed around and I could see how worried his golden eyes were. I badly wanted to hug him and tell him I’m okay but my body could hardly move. “What happened to her?” Queen Morrigan and Kuu rushed toward us, fretting as they saw my condition. “Let’s clean her wounds first,” Caius muttered.Kuu hurriedly fixed the hays and laid a thick blanket on them. Caius, ever so gently, laid me down. “Get me some clean water.” He said without looking at anyone. The little kid darted towards a small pit just inside the cave. I wonder who dug it but it’s impressive that Kuu doesn’t have to get out of the cave just to get some water. He took a small wooden bucket and threw it into

Chapter 28: The Unexpected Guest

“I need to change my clothes,” I told Caius. He was almost done wiping off the blood stains on my arms.“I’ll help you,” he offered. My eyes widened seeing how calm he was to say that. “I can do it on my own,” I told him.“You can barely move.” He scowled as he stared at me from head to toe.“I can,” I demanded and tried to get up but I lost my balance, and fell into his arms. I thought I had already regained my energy but my knees were still shaking. That cruel vampire had really beat me well. “I-I’ll ask help from the queen instead,” I muttered. “Why not me?” Caius insisted. I was starting to feel embarrassed and I was giving him the look but he couldn’t seem to get it. “What? You’re my fiance, so there’s nothing wrong if I’ll help you change your clothes. I’ll close my eyes if you’re uncomfortable.”“What?? I thought we already talked about this. Why still call me your fiance?” I was frustrated why he was suddenly bringing up the fake status. A crazy thought hit my mind and I acci

Chapter 29: Resemblance

The morning sun was alluringly beaming across the horizon. Amaris still felt distressed for leaving Nemiah all wounded in that wrecked church. Though he knew that Caius would take care of her, he still wished he could do it instead. He kept walking back and forth in his small kitchen, feeling uneasy. Gili felt dizzy watching him fidgeting all over the place.”I can’t bear this anymore. I can’t eat properly watching you roaming around.” He murmured and loudly dropped the utensils on the table. He let out a sigh when he saw Amaris was still restless. He took the table knife and threw it right at him. It almost grazed Amaris’ face if he didn’t stop. The knife hissed through the air, aiming at the wooden cupboard behind Amaris. He flinched as the blade chucked through the surface of the cupboard.“Did you just—throw a knife at me?!” Amaris’ eyes widened in shock as he stared at the knife pierced deeply into the wood. “Are you crazy??” He yelled at Gili who was just relaxing sitting at the

Chapter 30: Jealous

“Why are you still here?” Caius annoyingly asked Amaris who was sitting at the crumbling table in front of him.“I’m the one supposed to ask you that,” Amaris responded. He was playfully twirling the dagger in his hand. The queen had just finished cooking scrambled eggs and laid the platter on the table where Amaris and Caius were sitting. “Can you please put that down? It’s dangerous to play with your dagger,” she scolded Amaris.“And who are you to say that?” Amaris retorted, making Caius grits his teeth. The prince was about to stand but the queen gave him a sharp look.“It’s obvious that your mother didn’t raise you well. I feel bad for you,” Queen Morrigan gave Amaris a pitying look to purposely annoy him.“What?! Well same with your son. It’s obvious that you didn’t raise him well either.” Amaris smirked at Caius.Caius raised again with his closed fist. Badly wanting to strike Amaris in the face.“Enough!” The queen scolded. She grabbed Amaris’ arm to stop him from spinning the

Chapter 31: The Traitor

Sneaking through the darkness of the night, Vivar reaches the palace safe in disguise. He noticed the palace guards were still on their post. He knew these two as his loyal assistants, Noman and Higor, who already have their own families. He wondered why they didn’t leave when the prince has already told them to return to their families for their safety. Curious and confident, he approached them with his head held high. The guards recognized him though he was still afar. But they just stood straight and didn’t give him a bow. Vivar started to wonder. He stopped a few meters from them and hesitantly asked, “Why are you still here? Didn’t the prince tell you to return home since the palace is not safe anymore?”The two guards looked at each other blankly, their lips were trembling. “Is there someone else inside the palace? More importantly, have you seen the princess?” Vivar grumbled.“The princess is inside, and he warned us not to let anyone of you in.” Higor, the tall and hunky man on

Chapter 32: Too Late

The purple garment of her cloak gracefully draped on the marble floor. Her right leg was exposed as she crossed her feet on her throne. She sluggishly leaned on her seat and gently massaged her temples with her velvety fingertips. She’s been drinking wine since morning, brooding about how to capture the chosen one. Before she loses consciousness, the gigantic metallic door creaks open. She irritatedly opened her eyes to see who the intruder was.“Your highness,” Druji bowed as soon as the queen saw her.“I thought you were enjoying your reign in your mother's castle. What suddenly brings you here?” Dubheasa asked in a blunt tone.“I found a bait to capture Nemiah,” she confidently informed the queen.Dubheasa’s pale skin suddenly bloomed as soon as she heard her. She stood from her seat and paced towards her to hear her more clearly. “Did you just say you found a bait to capture that girl? Are you sure about this?” She wanted to be assured.“You heard it right, my queen. I have jailed

Chapter 33: Grieve

The sky was gloomy so was what she was feeling at the moment. The dark clouds started to gather around her and poured out distressing drizzles, adding weight to her misery. The smell of the burnt body was now washed by the rain. The scent of the wet dirt started to fill her nostrils. Leaving no trace to identify who was the scorched body.Druji screamed out the pain, and the sky responded with a loud roar of thunder. She started cursing at the dark sky, seeking vengeance for what happened to her beloved soldier. She was full of regrets as she thought of the missed opportunities she could have thanked Vivar for all he had done for her. He remembered when Vivar came to the palace and told her that he just wanted to save her. She pounded her chest with her fist, full of guilt. Vivar risked his life to go back just to save her but she only led him to his grave. "I'm sorry. This is all my fault. I should have listened to you!" She cried out as she caressed his unrecognizable face. "I didn'

Chapter 34: The Missing Piece

I felt responsible for Vivar’s death. It wouldn't have happened if I was really the chosen one and had defeated Dubheasa just from the very start. But I’m useless. I wanted to blame the queen for imposing on me that I am their savior. I turned to her, trying to calm myself. “How can I help? You’re telling me I’m the chosen one but I don’t have any power to defeat the evil queen. I think you made a mistake. I am not the chosen one.” I complained as I wiped my tears using the back of my hands. Queen Morigan cleared up her tears and approached me. She gently sat beside me and took my trembling hands and gently pressed it. “The scroll.” She uttered. My brows furrowed to that statement. “What scroll?” I asked. “The last piece of the scroll hidden in the forbidden fortress. The answer is there.” She answered. That’s when I remembered about the scroll I once found in an abandoned castle. It was located in the deep woods when I was trying to escape. But I can’t remember where I left it after
