Chapter 2 – Alpha Academy

LAMIA (TWO YEARS LATER) I was bopping along to my music on the way back to the dorms from an awesome morning of training. I was heading to my room for a much-needed shower and change before my classes. I didn’t think the instructors would be too happy if I turned up sweaty and bloody for their class. Chapter 3 - Training

LAMIA Friday Morning. Up bright and early for our sparing session. We stood on the training grounds, stretching our limbs when the instructor walked up, his voice booming across the open field and sparring rings, rattling us out of our thoughts and to attention. “Right cadets! Today we will be going over hand-to-hand combat skills. We will start with sparing in pairs. We will then be grouping you together and working on handling multiple attacks. NO kill shots! Chapter 4 - Party

LAMIA I was sitting perched on the toilet in my bathroom, while Kira was adding some curls to my hair. We were getting ready for the party. Chapter 5 – Crush and Crushed

LAMIA The party was in full swing and Kira and I had had a few drinks. She now led me by the hand into a large room where people were dancing. Chapter 6 - Inanna

LAMIA I woke up to a loud knocking on my door. “Go away!” I yelled, pulling the covers over my head. My head was groggy from the alcohol and my eyes felt puffy from crying last night. Chapter 7 - Torture Prevention

LAMIA Ten minutes later, the four of us, I had grabbed Kira on the way, sat in my room. Mike and Kel were looking a little more than awkward. I assumed they thought we were going to have a “talk” about what happened Friday night. “Here,” I said and tossed the old leather book to Kellen who was propped on the end of my bed, “Turn to page 123. And read it out loud so everyone can hear.” He flipped the pages until he came to the right one and then began to read aloud the same passage I had read. Chapter 8 – Leaving Early

LAMIA I was wearing my standard training clothes, black shorts, and a sports bra. My hair was braided into a bun so I could keep it out of my face. Walking on the training field, I grabbed a short sword and claymore. The Claymore was much heavier than that of a samurai or katana and even heavier than a Kaskara, but I liked the heaviness and power. The short sword was easier to wield, allowing my wrist to rotate and slice. Not that the weapons we used really had a sharp edge but could still do some damage to an opponent. Of course, the idea of our training was to not kill, but if you got hit with one, it would definitely maim you or kill you if you were impaled. Chapter 9 – Calling Home

KELLEN The three of us sat in mine and Mike’s suite, of course, being a Prince, I had one of the largest suites. It still wasn’t as big as my room back in the palace, but it was cozy and better than most of the dorms here. I didn’t need fancy all the time and the rooms' functions were suited to the academy. Mike and I had bedrooms at opposite ends of the suite, with our own bathrooms. In the middle was a seating area with two ugly plaid couches and a wooden chair with corduroy backing and seat cover. We had a microwave and fridge that Mike always kept stocked with beer or some sort of alcohol. And a little breakfast counter with two stools that separated the seating space from the kitchenette area. The hardwood floors had been remodeled or at least refinished and had a nice sheen to them to the point where you could almost see your own reflection. We were waiting for my father to call us once Beta Michael (Mike’s dad) and Delta Marcus (Lamia’s dad) were there to conference with us.

Chapter 10 - Wanting

KELLEN Lamia stood up and walked over to the fridge grabbing a couple more beers. We followed suit and I propped myself up against the breakfast bar on the kitchenette side.
