Heath looked at her as if she had lost her mind. “Of course I meant it!” Kimmy lets out a breath that she never even realized she was holding. “Oh.” “And I am going to assume that you meant it the other night when you told me that you loved me in your sleep,” Heath tells her, watching her closely to see if his words spark any recognition. He has no way of knowing for sure if she mumbled that consciously or if it was a slip of the mostly asleep tongue. Kimmy grins at him and says, “that was actually meant for one of my two dream lovers. Henry Cavill and Jamie Dornan. I'm sorry if you got confused.” For a moment he feels a blind rush of jealousy but he tells his wolf to calm down, that she is just joking. “Henry Cavill, huh? I don't know the Jamie guy but so far, you have good taste. Me.. Henry.. you are a lucky woman.” “I know.” She says, leaning forward toward him. She lightly kisses his lips before she pulls back to tell him, “of course, I meant it when I said that I love you.

Prologue

The doorknob rattled as the big, meaty hand pawed at it, even though it was locked. The shouting and cursing coming from the other side of the door made the little boy whimper in fear. He was huddled under the window with the little baby clasped tightly to his chest. He was watching as the young woman yanked clothes off the hanger and threw them into a large tote bag that had the name of a local grocery store printed on the side. She threw open the dresser drawer, yanking out the child's clothes before moving on to the baby's clothes in a different drawer. She grabbed the half empty pack of diapers from the floor, stuffing them in the bag, as well. A loud thump against the door made the woman jump and the little boy cry out in fear. The baby was wailing; loud, gusty sobs. The young had jammed furniture in front of the door, but she wasn't sure how long it would hold up against the weight of the angry man on the other side. He had strength but thankfully he was out of shape and dr

Greer Blackstone had always been a little afraid of the dark. When she was a small child, she had feared whatever monsters might be under her bed. After she had turned ten, she started fearing the monsters in her mother's bed. Now, at the ripe old age of eighteen, she feared the dark because of what it brought. Deafening silence. Time alone with her thoughts and with her fears. No distractions from the worries plaguing her. No reprieve from the hell of her mental anguish. Just the dark, the silence, and her thoughts. Greer rises up on her elbow to move the candle that she had just lit further away from where she and the kids lay curled up on the floor in the corner of the creepy, nasty room. She could not risk it blowing out or worse, falling over and starting a fire. It had taken her forever to get the candle lit, considering how drafty it was and that the lighter was running out of fluid. She once again wished she'd had the time to grab flashlights, matches, blankets, and othe

Greer woke up a few hours later to a strange sound. After the horrible nightmare that she'd had, she was disoriented at first. She breathes in deep and moves her arms. She is so terrified after that dream that she just lays there for a moment, completely forgetting about the sound that had awoken her until she hears it again. She sits up quickly and looks around, unable at first to make out anything in the pitch black darkness. Eventually, her eyes seem to adjust and with the faint hint of light peaking around the door, she is able to make out the figure of the child. Hunter sits huddled in the far corner of the room, sobbing. Greer lays the baby down on the piles of clothing before she runs over to comfort the little boy. “What's wrong, baby?” She asks Hunter, crouching down in front of him. “I'm scared.” She hears the fear in his voice and sees his little body shutter. He blinks a few times and the tears spill down his cheeks. She feels her heart seize. This poor child has b

Greer tries not to let her fear show as she follows the beta through the dark forest. She thinks that they are heading towards the alpha's house when he sets off walking, but after maybe an eighth of a mile, he veers off. He helps her over large roots and uneven ground by lifting the stroller for her. He keeps up steady conversation, mostly with Hunter, but he takes care not to exclude Greer. She knows what he is doing, trying to put her at ease. He can more than likely smell her fear, although considering how jumpy she is, he can probably just see it as well. “Almost there.” The sound of his voice has her lifting her head and she sees the trees parting up ahead. This land is unfamiliar to her and she guesses that the pack must have acquired more land over the years. Once they have passed through the trees, she sees a huge mansion of a house looming up in front of them. It has to be at least two or three stories tall and as wide as a hotel. Greer can not imagine how many rooms

Heath catches the girl as she slumps forward with the baby in her arms. Liam is across the room in less than a second, picking the baby up and golding it against him as he checks her for injuries. The baby is unharmed. Shit. This was just what he needed, Liam thinks to himself. A mysterious rogue girl with a bruised up face and half starved children showing up on his doorstep. To top it all off, the girl keels over when he enters the room, causing an even bigger headache for him to deal with. He has yet to get answers from her as to why she is here. His father has left him in charge of the pack for the first time and then here she comes, fucking everything up for him. As soon as he thinks that, Liam begins to feel bad for the uncharitable thoughts that he is having about this girl. He is just having a bad day, which had put him in a foul mood. There was no need for him to take it out on this girl and her kids, though. Even if she was a rogue, trying to sneak into his pack. Feeli

To run to the hospital only takes three minutes if you cut through the trees but since he is taking the roads, it takes him much longer. He makes it to the hospital nine minutes later. He grabs the kids and rushes to the nurses' station in the emergency room. The nurse, Karrigan Patterson, looks at him and the kids curiously as he runs up to the desk. “Hey Liam, I will need you to fill out the paperwork for her if you are with her. But for now, I will take you to her and just bring the papers in later.” She smiles at the little boy, who just looks at her. “Right this way.” She leads them to a door down the hall and with a light knock, she pushes the door open and stands back, giving them room to enter. Liam steps into the room, with the boy tucked behind him. He wants to make sure it was alright for the boy to look before he lets him fully come in. No need to traumatize the kid more than he already is. Liam sees the girl lying on the bed with IV tubes coming out of her. She looks

Liam was taking the woman to get the things that she will need for her and the children, whether she likes it or not. The little brown headed boy is filthy; his clothes are stained and tattered. He has dirt all over him and he looks like he hasn't had his hair washed properly in a while. He needs new clothes to wear, if nothing else. Liam knows that she is hesitant and wary. He even understands. She doen't know him, so why should she trust him? He gets where she is coming from, but he can not see turning down something you and your kids need, out of misplaced pride. That is like cutting off your nose to spite your face. It makes no sense. Liam grabs a shopping cart and puts the baby carrier across the basket, securing it with the safety strap. Once he has the baby carrier fastened to the cart he moves aside so that the girl could push the cart. He holds the little boy's hand and they walk beside her. She gives the two of them an odd look when she sees that the child is willing to

Greer turns around to look at the man who has spoken. He is nice looking, with short blonde hair and beautiful green eyes. He is heavily muscled, tall, and broad. The man looks to be in his late twenties or early thirties. He is smiling at her, so she feels rude for not responding, so she says rather awkwardly “Oh, um, thank you." “I'm Hayes, by the way.” “Nice to meet you, Hayes.” She sees Hunter and Liam coming toward her, so she says to him, “Excuse me.” She pushes her cart towards them without waiting for a response from the man, smiling at Liam lovingly. She hopes the man will get the wrong idea or in this case the right 'wrong' one. “A few minutes, huh?” Liam grins sheepishly, “We kind of got caught up looking at the movies. Since he never had toys I figured he probably didn't have an extensive DVD collection either, so we got a few.” He holds up a huge stack of Disney movies and other animated movies. “We got a few movies for you too, but since we didn't know what you li

Liam pulls in to a fast food place. “I'm starving. What about you, buddy?” He looks back at Hunter, who nods. The boy still wasn't talking much to him, but he will hold his hand when they walk through the store or in the parking lot. The kid will point and nod, as well. It is not as if there is anything wrong with him being non-verbal. He has talked to Liam before, so maybe he just does not have much to say. Liam figures that he will talk when he is ready. “Well, let's go then.” Liam gets out of the truck and comes around the front to help Greer out before he moves to the backseat to get the kids. He takes them inside and gets the group seated at a table before he asks Greer what she wants to eat. She says that she isn't hungry, so he walks away. She watches him as he walks to the counter to order, noticing the changes in him from the last time that she had seen him. She can not help but notice how handsome he is now. Greer gets comfortable at the table and unstraps Gemma from h
