Chapter 61

Jasmine POV             I could not believe how things had gotten so messed up.  How everyone was suffering because of this Lara.  I hated that woman.  Everything about her.  She was a selfish bitch who left destruction wherever she went.  I could not fathom Samuel losing his leg.  He was an Alpha and I did not know how he would function without a leg.  Could he survive the loss? I could not think this way.  The only way I was going to think was that the Moon Goddess would spare Samuel and he would fight this infection.             “When can I see him?” I ask the doctor.  “Follow me, Luna,” he says.  Following him he leads me to Samuel’s room.  As I enter the room, I see his leg wound first.  It has this awful black color around it, it has been stitched closed with a drain coming out of the leg.

Chapter 62

Kate POV             It has been a week since we rescued Maddie.  A lot had happened in that week.  The doctors were able to save Samuel’s leg, but he would not be able to shift any time soon, if ever.  There was significant damage to his leg.  He required multiple screws inserted into his leg to hold it together.  His wolf had not returned yet, so any self-healing was not happening until he returned.  He was not gone – simply hibernating to heal itself.  The doctors had to go back in to remove more infection twice, which also affected his muscle mass.  All in all, he had been fortunate; however, he may never shift again.  I am not sure which is better or worse, but time will tell for Samuel.  For today he is happy to still have his leg.               Maddie had finally woken up.  She would have a lo

Chapter 63

Kate POV             I stood there for a moment in shock but quickly moved to follow my mother.  Colby was beside me and took my hand.  My father had done a lot of questionable things, but I didn’t feel it was his time to leave this world.  As we walked into the waiting area, once again, I see the Pack doctor talking to my mother.  She is calm and listening intently.  I walk over to join her taking her hand.             “Alpha Kate, I was just explaining to your mother that your father is going to be fine.  His wolf started his healing quickly,” the doctor explains.  Breathing a sigh of relief, I ask the doctor what happened.  “I am not sure, but Alpha Reid or Beta John will be along shortly to explain everything,” he says before heading back in to look after my father.

Chapter 64

Maddie POV             I walk back down the stairs with my bag about an hour later.  Jasmine was sending a car to pick me up and it should just about be here.  Drake was waiting for me when I arrived back down the stairs.  “You need to be careful with the stairs, Maddie,” he starts to say when I gave him a disgusted look.  This was not the time to talk about stairs.              “I did not mean my words to come out the way they did, Maddie; I do not want you to leave.  I simply thought a break from here would be good for you,” Drake says trying to justify his earlier words.  “Got it,” I say to him walking around him.  He tries to take my arm, but I swing it out of his reach.  I start to open the door when he walks behind me slamming it shut.  “Would you just talk to me?” he says in frustration.  &

Chapter 65

Maddie POV             Getting on the airplane had been scary at first.  I had never been on a plane before, and I wondered if I had made a mistake.  But I quickly got past that fear.  The flight crew were friendly and kept me distracted.  When we were in the air, I was able to relax. I did not get up and move around a lot although I had used the bathroom and saw a bedroom and an office toward the back of the plane.  I could not believe it.  I am pretty sure most people do not fly this way, but it is a lifestyle you could certainly get used to easy enough.             As we were about to land, I felt butterflies start to flair up.  This was the first time flying but even more importantly the first time I had gone anywhere on my own.  Well really leaving my territory or Drake’s territory.  I only planned an overnigh

Chapter 66

Maddie POV             My heart skips a beat.  My mate is gorgeous as always and with those dark sunglasses I cannot see what he is thinking but he looks sexier.  As I move a bit more slowly from the airplane, Drake stands up and strides over to me like a man on a mission.  As he arrives, the flight attendant brings down my bag, I reach to take it when Drake reaches around me taking it for me and with his other arm, he cups his hand around the upper part of arm leading me to the SUV.              Drake helps me in the car, before shutting the door firmly.  He drops my bag in the back of the SUV before he comes around to his side entering the car.  He has said nothing since seeing me.  As he starts to pull away, I realize we are not going in the direction of the Red Moon Pack.  “We are going the wrong way,” I say to Drak

Chapter 67

Drake POV             I pulled back from my kiss with Maddie only to hear her sigh of frustration.  I chuckled internally, “So impatient, Maddie,” I say teasing her.  Looking at me her eyes change to a color of anger if that is possible.  Clearly, she does not like being teased.  As she tries to step out of my arms, I pull her back closer to me.  “If at any point, your back hurts or bothers you, you tell …,” I start to say to Maddie when she pulls me close to her and kisses me.  This is the first time Maddie has taken charge in the kissing department – with any area of our personal lives.              Prodding my lips with her tongue, I open up to have her slip her tongue inside my mouth, sliding and exploring.  I start to move back across her tongue, and we enjoy our kiss until we both start to fight for dominance in o

Chapter 68

Maddie POV Drake and I had an amazing day together just lazing in bed and enjoying one another’s body.  Now Drake had surprised me with a night out.  He had a dress already there for me – a gorgeous black cocktail dress that showed off more flesh than I was accustomed to showing.  A deep vee in the front with spaghetti straps holding the dress up.  The bottom of the dress fell mid-thigh with a short slit to the right of the bottom. As I slipped on strappy heels, Drake came out of the washroom looking stunning in a black suit, with a red tie contrasting the suit.  He walked over to me, “Maybe we should stay in and just get room service again,” he suggests.  Laughing as he wraps his arms around me grabbing my ass and pulling me close to feel his hard edges.  “No way, you look too good not to show off tonight,” I say teasing him.  “I am the one that will have to growl at all the men who will be checking out my mate,” he says.

Chapter 69

Kate POV             It had been three weeks since Lara had interrupted Maddie and Drake’s date night.  As expected, nothing was gained through the man, who Drake had taken captive.  Colby had everyone on alert at our end.  There was a lot of anticipation surrounding Lara’s next move.              Colby had managed to get a couple shifts in.  He definitely felt it when he first shifted and was unprepared for how much missing a quarter of his lung would take out of him.  Now that he has gotten used to the variance in his breathing he is adjusting better.  He does not have the ability, yet, to go the speed and distance he was used to, but I had no doubt it would come.  He was a determined man.  And stubborn.  The doctor had wanted him to wait but he refused needing to see what restrictions he might encounter.

Chapter 70

Kate POV             As we all sat there in stunned silence, the echo of the gunshot continued to reverberate throughout the forest.  Waiting to see who was hit, I look down in front of me.  I see a shocked look on Lara’s face and realize the bullet hit her.  I let her fall to the ground, rolling her over and seeing the bullet did not go through her.  It was lodged in her body and from the blood gushing out the bullet hole I could tell it was a fatal hit.  Hearing another gunshot, I felt Colby throw his body over mine when I saw Lara put her hand up making a fist.  “Stop,” she says as she lays there in a pool of her own blood.             She had used a gesture with her rogue counterparts that indicated it was over.  They all started to retreat and there were no more gunshots heard.  Crawling over to Lara, I know there
