Chapter 100: His Timing Sucks

When he doesn’t continue his sentence, I look back at him and he is frozen in place staring at something. I look to where his eyes are pointing and see Alpha Jack walking toward us with Jennifer and a beautiful woman with jet black hair and green eyes. This must be Aria, I think to myself. “Mate.” I hear Greg whisper and I whip my head back to him. His eyes are on Aria and the joy I feel for him finding his mate makes me tear up. I can tell the moment Aria realizes her mate is standing in front of her because she freezes, and Alpha Jack looks back at her in confusion. I grab Greg’s hand and start to pull him towards her, but he stops me, mind linking me.   Greg: ‘Divina, I can’t. I can’t do this to you.’

Chapter 101: Aria's Betrayal

Greg isn’t in the cottage when I get there and start packing my things. I breathe a sigh of relief when I am done, and he still hasn’t shown up. At least now he can’t try to stop me when I leave. I make my way to the Orphanage and stop by Melissa’s room. “Do we have any more empty rooms that I can stay in?” I ask. She looks up from the book she is reading and sets it beside her after dog earing the page she was on and scooting to the edge of her bed to stand up. “We do, but why are you asking?”   “I’m moving in.” I say and don’t offer anything more. “Ooookay. Sure. Follow me,” she says and raises her eyebrows at me in surprise. “I would have thought you would want to stay in your little cottage with your boy toy.”

Chapter 102: Milly

I start to regain consciousness; the effects of the drug Aria gave me wearing off and I can hear her arguing with someone. “You promised to return my daughter if I brought you the angel. I want my daughter back now!” she yells, and I can hear the panic in her voice. “You will get your daughter back, IF the angel cooperates and IF you keep your mouth shut. You raise any alarms, and we’ll kill her without another thought.” The gravelly voice that answers her is menacing and I have no doubt he will make good on his threat. Aria sobs and screams out in frustration, and I imagine her pulling at her hair and gripping her stomach trying to hold herself together. My heart goes out to her despite the predicament she has put me in. After sifting through Jennifer’s horrific memories, I am certain that a mother would do anything to protect her child. I pretend to still be knocked out, making sure my body stays relaxed and my breathing even. The demon that is holding m

Chapter 103: Mathias

He sneers at me at me in disgust and says, “Surprised to see me, Angel?”   “Yes, actually, I am. I didn’t take you for a coward, turning against your own people.” I stand to my feet and raise my chin defiantly at him.   “I’ve always hated your father. He’s just as stupid as you are, putting blind faith in the people around him.” He clenches his fists to his side and walks menacingly towards me. “I know he told you where the locations of the settlements are, and you are going to tell us.” He grips the back of my hair and yanks my head back so that I have

Chapter 104: They're Just Fingers, Right?

It’s been three weeks since I was brought here, and the beatings are getting worse. I’ve reached out to Warrick several more times. I sigh and look over at Milly. They barely feed us, and she is looking a little worse for wear. I’ve started giving her my rations and sustaining myself by pulling energy from the earth. Surprisingly, Mathias can block me from communicating with everyone else, but not the earth. I guess his barrier doesn’t go underground. I feel her watching me as if she is waiting for something. What that is, I don’t know. She willingly lets me pull from her energy and I almost feel as if she is disgruntled that I don’t ask for more. That makes me curious. Could I use her energy for more than just healing, like manipulating the elements? Would that make her angry? When I get out of here, I’m going to try to grow flowers straight from the ground like on FernGully. I sigh. I must be starting to go crazy.

Chapter 105: Vanessa

Mathias wrapped my hand with the bandages for show and it is annoying having two of my fingers pinned down. I haven’t been summoned to the “beating room” in the past two days so that’s a plus. “Duh-bina, I want to go home. I miss my mum,” Milly tells me and crawls into my lap. “I know sweet girl. The next time they unchain me, I will look for a way to escape.” She nods her head and wraps her arms around my waist. The door opens and Mathias descends into view with two trays of food. By now, he knows I won't accept the food and sets them Milly’s cot. She scrambles over and inhales both plates of food in record time. “You have a visitor, Divina.” I look up at him in confusion and ask, “Who?” He doesn’t say anything more since the basement door opens and lighter footsteps can be heard on the stairs. I am shocked when Vanessa comes into view. What is she doing here? She smiles vindictively at me and stares at me for a moment before wrinkling her nose. “Goddess,

Chapter 106: Our Escape

---Mathias---  Anger burns heavy in my chest as I climb the stairs to the main floor of the warehouse. They hacked her wings off. Took away her ability fly, to be free. Alpha Donahue was right; angels live for flying and the freedom it gives them. Depending on the injury, an angel can grow their wings back, but I have never seen one come back from what I just witnessed. If she can heal her fingers, I pray she can heal her wings. Michael mentioned similar injuries and he healed from that, but it took time. A lot of time. Time we may not have, I’m afraid. Alpha Drake’s laugh pulls me from my reverie. He is washing his hands and forearms to clean the splattered blood off them. His sleeves are rolled up clear to his elbows. He leans down and cups his hands in t

Chapter 107: Reunited

---Mathias---  “Are your wings healed?” I ask when we are outside, and Divina shakes her head no.  “There wasn’t enough time, she says and drops to her knees several feet inside the tree line. “We need to be able to fly get back in time,” I say softly. “I can take Milly back and send someone to come back for you.”  Divina wraps her arms around herself and rocks slightly back and forth. I jump and Milly whimpers when she lets out a keening cry that turns into a scream before slamming her hands so hard into the g

Chapter 108: The Back Story

--Almost Four Weeks Ago---  Aria and I are sitting on the little bench by the koi pond. “I have something to tell you, Divina, but you have to promise to keep it between us,” she says, and I can see tears forming in her eyes, but they have yet to fall.  I nod my head and wait for her to continue. “I have a daughter. She’s four and no one here knows about her. She’s been taken and I am risking her life by telling you this, but I also think you may be the only one who can save her after talking with my brother,” she continues, twisting her hands in her la

Chapter 109: Prophecy

Greg wakes me up when we get back to Timberwolf Pack. “We’re here, Divina,” he says. I look around groggily and yawn. Rubbing my hands over my face, I peer out the windshield. “I’m so exhausted,” I say. Greg and Aria both chuckle at me. “What’s the plan?” Greg asks. “I’m here long enough to get Alina and see Little Ember before I head back to Bright Moon Pack. I will come back in a week or so to check on Ember again,” I tell him. “We’re coming with you,” Greg says. I smile at him and shake my head. “I think you should talk to Aria first.  Aria backs out of the SUV with Milly in her arms and says, “We’ve already discussed it. Until we get all this figured out, Greg and I will be where you are.”
