Future Plans

“How are you feeling?” Nathan moved to sit on the side of her bed so he could see her better and feel her closer to him. He couldn’t resist reaching out to brush a strand of her hair from her eyes.             “Now that everything has calmed down? Better, but exhausted. I didn’t realize how much we were living off of adrenaline. Can you believe this is over?” she awkwardly tried to lean forward to embrace him, but the wires wouldn’t let her, and he used a gentle hand to keep her still.             “The simple part is over. Now we need to deal with the fallout.” He sighed heavily after he said these words. After what Helena said in passing, it would fall onto his shoulders to do just that. If they accepted the responsibility.

Getting the Elder

Davis finally found the elder Jillian called Aunty Mae. It took him several tries to find her cabin. She was definitely off the beaten path. It was dark, but she sat out front of her cabin sipping something from a mug so large it competed with her head for which was larger. He prayed that was tea and nothing stronger in it. Because he couldn’t hand three crazy wolves right now.             “What have you flown this way so quickly, boy? I don’t like the look on your face. That look never bodes well for a relaxing evening.” Set her mug down beside her on the stoop of her cabin and stood to meet Davis.             “I’m sorry to do this. But something odd is going on between the alphas and they are arguing. The only thing they appear to agree upo

Asking Questions

“I am sick of this. Every time I think we catch a break, and we can return to our day-to-day lives, something else is thrown at us. We have to stop the witch now. It’s not enough that the Blue Mountain Pack are decimated. Now she’s messing with ours. How many others are on her hit list?” Helena walked down the corridor toward Asia’s room again, frustrated at yet another incident ruining her peaceful life with her mates. She just wanted this all to end, and now this. Chris had to recover from this. It wasn’t just her that needed him, but Brian, too.             “I wouldn’t be surprised if her goal is to make as much damaging chaos as possible throughout as many packs as possible. So how do we start this hunt?” Jillian put her phone away after reading the text messages to Helena that explained

Setting Ground Rules

Dimitri found his camp awake long before the sun was fully up. For wolves, that wasn’t unusual. Their way of life occurred much more organically than humans. Clocks weren’t as important to them, and the concept of time didn’t match with their need for urgency in different matters. This meant people dealt with what they prioritized rather than scheduling something to death and feeling like a failure.             Today he and Jon would tell the pack some fundamental changes and let the chips fall where they may. He dreaded this and the damage it could do. The plan was solid in that it would protect the pups and all future pups of the pack. What would make people unhappy was when they admitted to them that Dimitri would not continue his line traditionally, because his mate wasn’t female. That or they were like the Black Dan

Building a Plan

“Where’s Helena? She needs to be here. I’m going out to find her. She’s not safe out there alone.” Chris was getting agitated again. He’d been like this off and on, and Brian was glad that Aunty Mae and Davis were there. Otherwise he was afraid he’d do something rash like knock Chris out.             “Helena isn’t out there alone. She’s with Jillian, and she’s been texting me with information. Now the latest thing is Nathan pointed out that the only people who are affected are the people who touched Clarence. It appears he or something he wore could pass it to someone else, but the spell doesn’t pass from anyone else. He sites it was only the people Clarence fought who were affected, like Chris. The women and pups, mostly, were left unharmed. So, chances of there being an i

Looking for Sleep Among Responsibility

“I’m exhausted and need to find a place to sleep for a bit. Will you be alright here for the night?” Nathan rubbed at his face, trying to stay awake. He could barely see straight right now. Exhausted from running the woods for hours, like so many others.             “Nathan, of course, I’ll be fine here and I’m sure there’s a place for the family to sleep nearby. Ask a healer or staff member. But once you have a few hours sleep, find Helena or one of her mates and offer to help them find the witch. If you’re even considering becoming the Blue Mountain Alpha, then that’s your territory and you must learn it from top to bottom. You should also know exactly who’s on the land at all times. Also, you’ll gain their favour and trust by helping them. While removing a problem from our ter

The Call Comes In

It was getting late and with Chris being afflicted as he was, Helena received several warnings to stay away from the packhouse. Aunty Mae offered her cabin, as she’d stay at the packhouse and help Brian manage the situation there. Helena now sat comfortably in Aunty Mae’s cabin while Jillian went to the packhouse and packed overnight bags for them. Davis wasn’t happy about losing his mate for the night, but he was busy assisting Brian and Aunty Mae, keeping Chris distracted. No one wanted to deal with the complications of drugging him again. Their plan this time was to let him run out of steam and sleep it off. She didn’t know how well that was working out for them. She needed to keep her phone free for when the High Priest of the local coven returned her call.             It’d been several hours now, and she&rsquo

The Speech’s Fallout

Dimitri thought the speech went well. Jon was not as confident about it. The fallout made it’s appearance later in the morning. If they didn’t have enough trouble with a witch acting against them by leaving spelled traps for unaware wolves. Dimitri now dealt with fools wanting to change his mind. With questions like how many lovers, did he need? Why was he so selfish? Then he even got a comment from one person saying they couldn’t respect a leader that led with his dick.             The only thing he was glad of was none of these wolves bore the responsibilities of having a prominent position within the pack. In fact, most did the bare minimum for the pack or others. Even Jon mentioned that as he heard from them. His take, though, was different. Jon believed these wolves were jealous, because they’d not found the courage

An End to a Long Day

Chris was finally showing fatigue as he slowed his pace around the office. Aunty Mae sat in her straight-backed chair and watched his progress while everyone tried to predict how the plan would go and what Helena needed to be successful in this endeavour. Brian agreed with Chris, it should be them hunting the witch and not Helena. Aunty Mae didn’t agree with them. She pointed out that both have succumbed to her spells before and that made them more easily prone to future spells, with no form of protection. Aunty Mae wanted to wait until Helena called them, with the results of her conversation with the local coven’s leader.             Brian could see the logic in that, but Chris wasn’t thinking clearly and vehemently made it know for quite some time that he didn’t want more witches involved. Aunty Mae, however, wav

Catching Up, Keeping in Touch

With that call over and with a resolution she could live with. Though, in the morning, she’d clarify that she didn’t owe him anything, or he was expecting something in return. Helena just didn’t want to postpone the pain until later. Outsiders often confused this with their wish to isolate, but it was a culturally educated tradition. They taught Helena that favours were how the fae kept shifters under their foot even after they were freed. So it was a thing all wolves did. They rarely to never made deals to owe someone later without that job being specified before they made the agreement.             She dialled Brian’s cellphone and waited for the line to connect. Helena sat in Aunty Mae’s home in the dark as she listened to the ring.
