Greenpine

We sat in an awkward silence finding the correct words to initiate the conversation. Her green eyes held the same calculative look which it has when we first met. The silence was overwhelming and it was killing me to find the answers to all the questions floating in my head."Who is Jack?" "He is the beta's son like I told you before," she immediately answered."How do you both know each other?" "We are from the same pack," she replied. It was far away from the answers which I needed. I had to ask her about last night. "Who were you talking to last night" I finally asked. Her eyes widened slightly in surprise. She was not expecting me to hear any of the conversations she had. She sat up a little straight and cleared her throat."What are you talking about?"I suppressed the urge to roll my eyes, "You know what I am talking about, and don't say I was dreaming or any other absurd

The half truth

"Damien's mother," I whispered letting the truth soak slowly in my brain. It was the reason for his hatred towards me. But how was it right to punish me for something I had no idea about. No wonder he wanted Amber. Just thinking about them created a sour feeling in my chest. The memory was still too fresh to be forgotten."I am sorry. You really had no idea about this." Emily's voice reminded me of her presence in the room. She was sitting quietly observing me, probably thinking what would be the right words to tell someone who just found out the secret linking her soulmate and her hometown."I feel so stupid. How did I not see it," the words were not meant for her, they were meant for me to realize how I sat in my room with eyes closed from reality. The dinners, all the get-togethers for old families of the town they were not just dinners where everyone chatted about their everyday lives."It's not your fault,

One month

One month. One month of being away from Damien. One month of not thinking from the perspectives of hunters and werewolves. One month of living my life on my terms."I am leaving, Em. I'll see you in the evening," I yelled before leaving the house. I knew Emily heard my voice but was too sleepy to respond.I lifted my square glasses slightly so that they could fit more nicely. Humming a song under my breath I started walking down the stairs, a habit I got from Emily."Good morning, Sandra," I waved at the neighbor who was giving water to the plants. She waved back with a good morning. It did not matter if they were humans or werewolf they were all the same for me."Hey, Muffin," I scratched the head of the playful labrador who started wiggling his tail the minute he saw me.It was a beautiful day, with the sun shining brightly over my head. I continued walking giving a smile or a wave to everyone while wishing good mornin

Like a predator

"Damien," I said in a low voice as the hurricane of emotions started spinning inside me.For a while, I was sure it was just a dream. The man sitting on the couch with his chin resting on his fist while he looked at me silently with a blank face.  He stood up slowly taking his time. He was wearing a well-fitted black suit just like always. The time seemed to slow down as I stared into his icy eyes. With every step, he took in my direction I started feeling like prey in front of a predator. "Nora," came his dark husky voice sending goosebumps on my skin.I tried to read the emotions hiding perfectly in his eyes. But I could not focus on anything under his intense gaze. I closed my eyes as he reached in front of me waiting for the worst. Damien's anger must be reaching the sky. But what I was not expecting happened. I felt his strong arms around me, I took a slow breath inhaling the scent of his spicy

Deal

The walk towards the library felt much longer than I remembered it to be. Every step that was leading me to Damien was also causing my heart to beat faster. After Ruhee announced Damien wanted to see me in the library, she removed the wig that I did not remember I was wearing, unlike the glasses that I removed in the car. There was no exchange of words between us and even though it felt weird I decided to stay quiet.Inhaling a deep breath to fill my lungs with as much air as I could I raised my fist to knock on the heavy wooden door. But stopped feeling unsure."You can come in," came his deep voice from inside.I opened the door with shaky hands.Damien was sitting on his chair with both his elbows resting on the desk and hands clasped together. He was studying my every move with his eyes.I closed the door softly."What do you want to talk about?" I asked, keeping my voice as strong and confident as I could.

Choices

Another wave of silence swept away the words from the room leaving nothing but the sound of my shallow breaths. "What will I get?"  He walked towards the bookshelf taking his time, "What you wanted the most....your freedom." I licked my dry bottom lip. Was it one of his games?  But more importantly, was I willing to play? "What are you talking about?"  He removed a book from the second row and opened it, "You will get your old life back. You can achieve everything you wanted to and this will just be like a dream for you " I bit the inside of my cheeks nervously.  Did I trust him enough to fall for those words? But what other choices did I have?  "How should I know this is not one of your lies?"  He chuckled turning a page, "You don't but this is your best chance of getting out of here." He was right. I had no idea of knowing if he was lying or not. But was I willing

A chance

I inhaled a sharp breath as soon as I stepped in the deafening silence of the room where Ruhee was putting clothes in a big bag. She paused for a few seconds after realizing I was there as well but didn't bother initiating a conversation. We had to leave earlier than expected. I pressed my lips in a thin line and walked towards the closet to help her. Running my fingers over the soft material of the clothes lined up nicely, I removed a black crop top and folded it once.  Ruhee noticed the action with a sideway glance but said nothing.  I put it along with other clothes. Next, I went to pack a pair of shorts, this time her lip twitched and the motion of her hands folding the clothes became more aggressive.I was definitely doing something wrong but did not care and picked blue sweatpants."I will do this," she took the sweatpants in a swift motion and went back to her work."Are you never going to talk to me

No more lies

I was standing in front of the room where I stayed the last time I was in the palace. Just when I was about to open the door, the same guard from earlier came towards me. "The prince has sent me to give you a message, you are staying in the room next to the one where you previously stayed."I gave him a skeptical look wondering if he was telling the truth or not. I tried my best to find the lie on his blank face but failed miserably. Reluctantly I turned to walk away hoping I was not walking into a trap. I put my hand on the knob to open the door but paused to look at the guard in the hallway, only to find it empty. That's not weird at all.I opened the door but my feet turned to ice when I stepped into the completely different part of the palace. The icy walls were grey in the room, too grey that they looked black but had the same gold borders with delicate patterns. It was bigger than the room I stayed in, with a l

Breakfast

Two days went by with every minute passing like an hour. I had never felt so alone in my life. I had to stay in Damien's room and if I wanted to go anywhere two guards would follow me like a shadow.Damien was busy with some work but tried his best to give me as much time as possible. We had breakfast in the room but he would come late at night. Ruhee on the other hand was still ignoring my existence, no matter how much I tried to talk to her. She was just shutting me out. But not today, it was the day I hoped never would come. We were having breakfast with everyone, the mere thought was enough to kill my appetite."Are you ready?" Damien asked opening the door. "Yeah."I put the black woolen shrug lazily over the olive dress I was wearing, it was 7:24 am and we had to reach for breakfast at 7:30 am. I suppressed a yawn even though I could barely keep my eyes open. By the time we reached near the t

Planted on purpose

I was standing in front of the rainbow of flowers. Different colors of flowers covered every inch of the ground. The boundary consisted of the flowers arranged in the rainbow pattern. A narrow path of large stone led to a table made of marble with two chairs around it. Inhaling the aroma of flowers I looked at Damien with a grin, "This is beautiful.""My mother used to spend most of her time here. She made this, it was her favorite spot in the entire garden," Damien explained with a warm smile on his lips but a sad look in his eyes.I felt a thorn stabbing my heart as I remembered Emily's words."I am sorry, Damien, I had no idea that the hunters of Greenpine were involved in..." I could not complete the sentence. "It's not your fault, Nora.""How can you be so understanding? Were you never upset after finding out I was from that town," I lowered my voice while saying the last part."I was," Damien said dryly,
