Chapter I

She stood along a narrow winding path on the school main lawns watching her colleagues rush to different lecture rooms at the Kalulushi Catholic University. It was a bright Tuesday morning and the young beauty was not in the mood of sitting behind a desk to listen to some disgruntled lecturer at a private university in one of the giant mining towns on the Copperbelt. After all, she did not choose to attend the university but rather her single mother went against her will in spite of the several times she had denied the boring university life. Her friends called her a glamour girl and every one at campus was aware of her stunning beauty to an extent that she saw herself on international podiums representing the barely known Zambia. She yearned to help fly the national flag higher even as she ascended the echelon of power at the global scene. Her desire to find an alternative gateway to fame was stronger and the symptoms were already visible at a tender age. The young student w

The young mother was one kilometer east of Mwalumina village in a dense forest alone. After dropping out of school like most of her peers, Ima opted to stay home and help her single father with home chores. It was evident that the old man had no intentions to remarry with the passing away of his dear wife three years ago. She was the oldest girl and therefore, she took it upon herself to play the motherly role and attended to the needs of her family.Ima was twenty years old and had been in the village all her life with only one time in Lusaka when she went for a holiday. Her stay in town was very brief and so could not see and appreciate the beauty of town life. At her age, she had a long way to go and so it was clear that only one person knew what she stood for. That was Solo. Her mission was unshakable, not even her mother and family understood it and so she opted not to bother herself explaining to anyone. She stood in front of her dressing mirror in the dormitory and checked her new pink dress with a slit just on the right position. Ima had been working as a chef for over a year now and was accustomed to seeing different opulent customers everyday but these looked different.  Her actions were wrong but justifiable. She had no time of baby seating a grown up boy who was responsible enough for his actions. Subi needed to give herself time to heal, think and ultimately to reform. As long as some things were still alive, she was going to be a baby mama and ever looking over after her back. Anytime the boy could talk and implicate her in the murder of the university lecturer as well. The only sure way was to eliminate her only threat for continued peace. So far the boy was strong and remained mute, but for how long. No matter how long, someday he was going to talk or confide in someone who may later spill the beans. In every battle, casualties were inevitable as sanctioned by the Geneva Convention.
