Jane was indeed walking on eggshells. She couldn’t bring herself to talk to Daniel about ‘them’. Wait, was there even a ‘them’? Jane wasn’t sure anymore, especially not after listening to Wayne’s parting words. And to think people said women were complicated. She couldn’t wrap her mind around Daniel Winters at all. One moment he was all over her body and telling her he loved her and the next moment he was kissing his ex wife. And not to mention the surprise hug in the lift. What was that for? To feel her boobs and ass? She wrinkled her nose and took a deep breath before forcing the door to the master bedroom open. And sure enough the man’s mood had shifted yet again. That guy had more mood swings than a women with menses. Daniel Winters stood over the bed naked waist up with hands yanking the roots of his hair. The muscles on his body rippled as he tore through the bed, flinging jewels and diamonds aside all the while flooding the room with feral blasphemy. “

Daniel Winters was busy for most of that morning, rushing from one meeting to another and because of that, Jane was very much left to her own devices. She had completed her tasks for that morning, from filing the papers to helping with the photocopying to running errands and buying coffee for the interior design team and finally to feeding little Timmy. And now, she was quite free. But her mind was not. On the contrary, her brain was working on overdrive. How on earth was she going to fork out one million in two days? If she failed, Daniel would stand to lose everything he worked so hard for, and she could not bear to see it happen. Jane knew how hard he worked to keep his mother’s inheritance intact. For him to lose it would be akin to losing his life itself. One million….one million….one million. She couldn’t just waltz to a bank and demand a loan. What could she offer as collateral? The doorbell rang and Jane hurried over to the private elevator of the penthouse juggling little Timmy and a baby bottle in one hand and a diaper in the other. A quick check through the security camera told her that Wayne had arrived and she let him in. “Wayne, you’re early!” She dragged her eyes up and down his attire, feeling her jaw drop a little. “And….you’re wearing a tuxedo…” Her words trailed off as she took in the sight of him. Wayne stood in front of her looking every inch of a prince in a black and white tux, carrying a bouquet of lilies in one hand and a mini luggage bag in the other. She looked down at her simple garb of plain white tee with Timmy’s spit and ripped jeans coated with milk stains before her head fell back in laughter. Little Timmy found his mother’s laughter infectious and joined her with gurgles of his own. “I thought we were going to Mike’s diner,” she flashed a sheepish smile. “I made reservations at The Hilton.”

“Oh wow, I didn’t think the rum was THAT strong!” Jane threw her head back and forced a laugh before taking yet another mouthful of ice cream. A part of her wished for Wayne to join her in the laughter as well but he remained as he was with an expression void of all humour. He kept looking at Jane silently and all too soon, she began to waver under his gaze.Oh shit…this is not turning out the way I expected it to….her subconsciousness whispered as she nervously took another spoonful of ice cream from the clear glass bowl.Think Jane…say something. Talk about the weather. Talk about Trump and Biden. Talk about Timmy’s poop. Anything! But the words got stuck in her throat.“I mean it, Jane. I fell for you a long time ago. I should have reached out to you first. Had I known what you went through, I would have looked for you and taken care of you. If only Daniel had not been one step ahead of me..

The grand penthouse was empty; void of Jane’s smiles and Timmy’s laughter. In fact, the place felt alien without their presence, it was like the harsh plains of the desert sands where nothing save for stark emptiness thrived. Daniel kicked off his leather shoes as soon as he stepped out of the elevator and stormed to Timmy’s room, not entirely sure what he was looking for. Something to prove Jane’s innocence perhaps? All around him the lights of the penthouse automatically turned on. Roxanne hummed as she followed a frantic Daniel into the baby’s room, nodding her head in approval when she saw the makeover. “Hmm…like what you’ve done with the place. Remember we used to do it against the wall? I’d be taking your cock into my mouth and –” “Shut up.” Daniel flipped off Timmy’s baby blue blanket, searched under the cot and rummaged through a wardrobe full of rompers and baby suits but found nothing. Nada. He had called the auction manager earlier on the drive bac

“Jane...”Her head jerked up from the car’s window. “Sorry,” she replied grimly and wiped away yet another tear that had escaped her eye. Little Timmy shifted slightly in her arms and fell back to sleep once more, unaware of the turmoil that was eating his young mother away. Jane hated herself there and then. Why couldn’t she defend herself back there? Why didn’t Daniel believe her?  And why was he kissing Roxanne? What was she to him anyway? A plaything?“We’re here,” Wayne brought his car to a halt and Jane looked out the window of his Bugatti to see a beautiful townhouse with soft orange lights illuminating its roman carved pillars and ivy plants that crawled up its pristine white walls.“You live here?” she asked aloud, still peering out the window. After the fight with Daniel, Jane had nowhere to go. She had been too sick as a child to make any long-lasting friends and she didn&rsq

No one could sleep that night either. Daniel lay curled up in a fetal position on the floor of Timmy’s room after he kicked Roxanne out of his house. She had pouted, wiggled and jiggled her ample assets at him but one look from him was all it took to have her scampering off like a little mouse. Not far away, Jane tossed and turned in the great white bed of Wayne’s townhouse, looking out of the open window and counting the twinkling stars in the cloudless night sky. All she could think of was the hatred that filled Daniel’s eyes. Why was she grieving over a man who literally left her with scars? Was she so desperate for love that she had welcomed any imitation of it? Even the ones that came in the form of Daniel Winters? Jane did not know, she did not want to know. Wayne should have gone home, but he did not. Instead, he stayed in the seat of his car, gripping onto his steering wheel so hard his knuckles turned white and he stared longingly at th

It was not a letter from Timmy’s bastard of a father. Rather, it was a letter announcing Jane’s miraculous win for the Interior Design competition. She had come in second and was thus awarded a letter of recognition as well as a cheque of two hundred grand; a great amount of money in Jane’s eyes.“Oh my God!” Pepper squealed, the corner of her eyes crinkling as she jumped up and down like a little girl who had been gifted a lifetime supply of lollipops. “You won!” Pepper continued in jovial celebration, pumping her fist in the air and stomping her feet like a gipsy dancing around a bonfire.Jane stood at Pepper’s desk holding the precious cheque in her hands wondering if this was all a dream. Despite all that had happened the night before, Jane had to smile. With the prize, she would be able to pay back some of the money she owed Wayne. Even better, she would also be able to find a rented room elsewhere. The two wo

Wayne was not entirely happy that Jane wanted to move out from his place, but she had made up her mind and there was no talking her out of it. So here she was, viewing a potential unit for rent in the middle of the day. Jane turned around, taking in with a glance of the sparse but tidy SoHo unit with a window that opened to the back of a twin apartment block. Basically, it was a room without a view but the rental was ridiculously cheap and the apartment was just a stone’s throw away from Wayne’s new office. Okay, so maybe it wasn’t exactly a stone’s throw away; in reality, it was more like fifty throws away but still this place was better than nothing. Plus Mike the office boy lived just a few floors up so at least she would have an acquaintance here.“As I was saying, Logan was kind enough to introduce me to this place last week and I’m telling you, Mrs Winters, you won’t be able to find a cheaper place than this,” Mike rambled

The superyacht was a sight for sore eyes. At a length of 156m, the floating vehicle housed not only a giant paddling pool but also a spa, saunas, gym and private cabins, each of which that came with balconies overlooking sparkling blue waves that bobbed gently under the setting sun. A jazz band played to  Frank Sinatra’s “Fly me To The Moon” on the helipad as guests mingled freely around the pool.Daniel stood in the middle of the sundeck with a group of men, all eager to butter up to him but he ignored them, choosing instead to scan the yacht trying to catch a glimpse of Jane. She was coming, wasn’t she? Surely she wasn’t going to ghost him. Not a minute went by that he did not think of her.“Ah! Daniel Winters! You’ve arrived!” The jolly looking senator laughed and pushed his way into the middle of the group, giving Daniel a suffocating bear hug.Oof! The senator’s vice like grip put The Rock to shame.
