SHOULDER TO LEAN ON (BEST FRIEND)

I wake up with my eyes a little heavy; I can feel it swells when I touch it with my fingertips. My sight lands on the white ceiling again; it's the only way I find peace, looking at the unknown and doing nothing. My back hurts a little when I get up, and I feel lazy. It must be a lack of sleep; if I can recall correctly, at 2 in the morning, I was still as awake as an owl. "Angel?" Mom called out my name. She must be preparing for work at this time. It's 7 in the morning when I glance at the wall clock. I'm not answering her and will come out when she's out for work. It's Saturday anyway. "Angel, your breakfast is ready; help yourself. I have to go to work." Still, I stay silent in my room so she would think I'm sle

CHANCES

Lea ended up having her breakfast and lunch into one as we lost track of time until 1 in the afternoon. After what Lea saw on my phone, we agreed to thoroughly investigate what was happening between mom and dad and why they keep secrets from me. The anticipation of knowing the truth and the anxiousness are both killing me at the same time. I have never felt like this before. I'm only 17, and it seems to me that the world's weight is on my shoulder. "Alright, your mom has agreed, so you'll be sleeping with me tonight, and we can start with our investigation project tomorrow. How does it sound?" When Lea taps my shoulder after she gives mom a call about letting me stay for a night, I come to my senses.   "Great. Thanks, Lea."

YOU CHANGED HIM

I don't have the strength to face mom after what I learned yesterday. All those things have not yet sunk in my system; everything happens so fast. My heart still aches after mom broke my trust, but the doubt that there must be something she's hiding is growing more and more. Mom is not the kind who hides things from me. Lea could be right; there must be something I need to know. However, it's kind of hard to comprehend. Dominic opens my door the moment I stand at the side of the car. "Good morning, Angel." Dominic greeted with a grin on his face. He could lighten up a gloomy morning with his pleasant smile. "Thank you, Dominic," I answered as I stepped inside the car. "You're too early today; any projects you need to finish in school?"

TOO HOT TO HANDLE

Students gather in the gym to start with the sports week ceremony. Unlike our gym in my former school, the gym is not crowded, where we had to squeeze ourselves to get a spot on the audience. The opening is more lavish than what we had in public school. It's pretty close to the national sports opening ceremony. To be honest, the show is spectacular. Still, my mind is on the other side of the campus, in the basketball court where Maddox and Luke had to do a last-minute practice. I sense Samantha squeeze my lap. "Angel, are you having fun?" "Yeah, very entertaining." Sam laughs at me. "Are you sure? You seem bothered. What's wrong?" "Nothing, let's watch the

I DESERVE TO LOVE AND BE LOVED

The junior-senior basketball game ends while I'm all eyes on Maddox having butterflies in my stomach. I do not doubt that they will win as I keep my trust in the junior team intact. The whole team is so happy, tapping shoulders to every opponent, showing sportsmanship. Maddox comes close to me and kisses me on the forehead; I’m startled. Samantha and Luke have their eyes on us as well. I have never felt embarrassed in my life. I feel like the heat is rushing on my face as I stand frozen next to Maddox. My hands are tightly gripping on his jersey as I don't know what to say or do. "Angel, thank you. You have no idea how much your presence helps me." I nibble my lower lip out of embarrassment, thinking how to respond. Oh, Maddox, what would I do?

ANGEL'S CONFESSION

"Angel, I have a little treat for you," Mad said, retrieving something from his bag.   I raise an eyebrow, staying mute while watching Maddox. The anticipation is killing me when he refuses to show it up.   "What?" I impatiently asked.   "Close your eyes."   "Nah, do I have to? It's just the two of us; I'm excited to see it," I complained.   "Yeah, you need to close your eyes."   "Fine" I closed my eyes impatiently. "Make it fast."   Silence follows for a few moments. "You may open your eyes now."

LOVE AMIDTS DOUBTS AND FEARS

Lea calls me as she has promised. I pick up her call immediately as I sit in the lobby to prepare for a long talk with my best friend. As assured, I let her know immediately when Maddox and I become a couple. I texted her on our way home from school. I'm sure Lea will ask as many questions as she can, so I can't go home to avoid mom hearing our conversation. "Hello, have you been busy?" "Yeah, I just had to finish all my projects so that we could talk continuously. I'm so happy for you, Angel." "Thank you, I took your advice. You were right, after all, Maddox has nothing to do with our family affairs, and I don't want to hurt him because of my personal problem. And also, I wanna be honest with myself." I replied, still with butterflies in my stomach.

BABY (THE MAGIC WORD)

Over the moon after what had happened yesterday in the man-made forest. It was surreal, to be honest; I feel my body is weightless until now on our way to school.   "You seem happy today Angel, your smile could raise a dead, very opposite from the scorn face that you had yesterday."   I playfully laugh at Dominic. "Is that so, Dominic?"   "Yes, it's like all the weight has lifted from your shoulder. Did you finish your project and enjoy the start of the sports week?"   "Yes, I sure did, Dominic. It was fulfilling and a relief at the same time." I agreed though it

TRAGIC EVENT

Cassandra is the cheerleader of the junior team as the Sports week continues. Being a junior student, my friends and I are bound to support her and the rest of the group. 3 pm when Maddox, Luke, Sam, and I are in the quadrangle waiting for our team to present and support them.   "Hey, I thought you guys are not gonna come to support us," Cassandra asked; she came in front of us out of nowhere. Wearing the green crop top and mini skirt uniform along with Chloe, Avery, and Scarlett.   "We are junior students, so we are supporting the team. It's not just you and your goons, so stop overreacting, Cassandra," Samantha answered.   "I'm not overreacting, just checkin

CASSANDRA'S EVIL PLAN

"Angel, what's wrong?" Sam asked anxiously. "I don't understand. Maddox texted that Cassy is in the hospital right now. Cassy doesn't look seriously injured." "Now, we can confirm that Cassy made it all up. I knew this could happen, and there's more to come, so we better get going and check on Maddox," Luke said, raking his fingers through his hair, looking anxious just like Sam. I understand how they feel as Maddox friends. Judging their reactions, I can confirm that I don't fully know the real Cassy. She's gone too far and didn't expect that she'd do these things to herself just to get attention. She's crazy.Luke offers to take his car to the hospital. It takes us over 10 minutes and directly checks Cassand
