Chapter 11

Theodore stood in his office with his eyes strained on the building below him. He held a glass of wine in his grip, trying to clear his mind of all things Kitten. He didn’t mean to rush out like that, but he knew that sooner or later, she would’ve realised why he seemed bothered, and it would only make her feel uncomfortable. The only good thing he could see from tonight’s performance was that he knew what to expect from now on. He squeezed his eyes shut as guilt gnawed at his mind. It was only a few minutes past eight, nowhere near the end of their hour together. But he could only imagine the turmoil that must be going on in her mind at that moment, even if she had already left. He had to be equipped to control himself for a whole hour for the next six months. If only she wasn’t so impeccably resistible. She had the body of a goddess. Theodore saw this much when she dropped the dress from her body. It almost made him jealo

Chapter 12

Yet another conference meeting had come to a successful end, thanks to Abigail and her team. Mr Hansic beamed at his star employee as she packed away her notes while the others filed out of the room in low, happy chatter.“You did it again, Abigail. You wowed yet another team of investors with your presentation,” Seymour praised as he stood by the door, blocking her way out.“I’m only doing my job, sir,” she said simply as she lifted her head to meet his proud gaze. “I love my job.”“I can tell. Believe me, Abigail, you will be just what this team needs for a long time.”Her eyes widened as a smile broke out on her lips. Though she was used to Seymour’s appreciative speeches towards her, this had been the first time since he made a bold statement of keeping her with him after she finished school. So that meant he would promote her to a full-time position sometime in the future.

Chapter 13

In a moment when it felt like the world had stopped spinning, as if the only sound in the universe was the thump of one’s heartbeat. In an instant, every cell in your body stopped working, and your sense of smell, sight and hearing had disappeared. In a second of utmost devastation that deemed the universe non-existent, the only thought that came to mind was the sliver of hope that this much was true. Because when something as horrifying and heart-shattering as this had happened, the only way to escape would be no existence at all. Abigail’s ears rang, and her throat constricted. The very image of the room spun as her eyes got blurry, and the distant sound of Najay’s voice calling out to her seemed too far away for her to hear. Abigail gripped the desk for support as she tried to catch her breath. She hadn’t heard the full story of what happened, yet it had this effect on her. “Abigail? Abigail, can you hear me?&rdquo

Chapter 14

The view was nice. Getting a hotel room at such short notice wasn’t easy, but Abigail and Najay managed to find one just in time. Abigail’s room sat on the third level. She could see only a part of the city since the hotel was on the other side of town. She also had the perfect view of the back of Theodore’s company, and since the very minute she got settled in, she had been staring at it. He had called earlier to ask what time he was supposed to swing by. Abigail didn’t know what to tell him, so she hung up the first time without replying to his question. But then he called again, and again until she had no choice but to answer him. He was worried, and she apologized for getting him worked up. But Abigail then knew that she couldn’t go on without telling him the reason for her behaviour, so she gave him the hotel’s address, avoiding all his questions about why she was there in the first place and promised to te

Chapter 15

Theodore couldn't believe what he just heard. “Oh, fuck.” He cursed under his breath as all his emotions were now clouded by anger. He couldn’t begin to imagine that someone did this to Abigail. His Abigail. This sweet, fragile, beautiful Abigail. Over the weeks, he knew she had a lot behind her brown eyes and a deep story that most wouldn’t be strong enough to share. But this—this was far too much. “I was unconscious for days, but Najay worked on the case on my behalf. By the time I was up and moving, I was able to testify in court against him. He and his father are wealthy people, and they had their own way with the system. For something that should’ve yielded him at least ten years in prison, he only got two.” Abigail sighed as a stray tear rolled down her cheek, but she tried to wipe it away before Theodore noticed. The memory of how she felt that day was still so raw. She felt so be

Chapter 16

Recap: Abigail and Theodore are getting closer. They still had their dance sessions and everything seemed fine until Najay dropped the news that Nicholas, Abigail's ex-boyfriend, was out of prison. Now devastated and scared, Abigail was left in a mess of emotions and flashbacks from the past two years. Our last scene was shown where Abigail told Theodore why she was at a hotel instead of at her apartment, and Theodore grew more protective of Abigail. *** The rain outside made it hard for Abigail to hear what the lecturer was talking about. It also evoked fatigue, which made her want to curl up in her chair and fall asleep. With nothing but the doodling on her page to keep her awake, Abigail allowed her mind to drift towards Theodore and how supportive he had been for the past week. He barely left her side when neither of them was busy, and though that wasn’t regular, it warmed her heart how much he really cared for h

Chapter 17

Theodore poured the coffee in two cups just as Abigail emerged from her room. He noticed that she seemed troubled and deep in thought, so he grabbed a croissant too that he knew she loved so much. He rested the coffee in front of her as she joined him at the kitchen island.“Thank you,” Abigail mumbled with a short smile as she snaked her fingers around the mug. She took a sip of the warm beverage, loving how it provided her body with even more comfort. She was accustomed to Theodore making her drinks and fetching her snacks by now. Whenever she came over for a dance, he would usually insist that she stay for coffee or a glass of his wine.It warmed her heart that he found the need to pick up a few croissants from Brown’s Diner since he knew that she loved them. It was sweet of him.Abigail tried to steady her thoughts as she turned to face Theodore. He stared ahead of him as he drank his coffee in

Chapter 18

Theodore tried to stay calm. He knew this would be the hardest part for him to hear, but the last thing he wanted to do was make her think he was uncomfortable. This wasn’t about him. Abigail entrusted this with him, so he tried to remain strong for her throughout it all. His heart broke a bit when Abigail spoke again. Her voice was barely a whisper as she reflected on it all. “I was a bit tipsy, so I grabbed his phone from the nightstand. He didn’t try getting the phone from me until we saw the caller’s ID. It read ‘Dad’,” she mumbled, remembering every detail about the word. “I tried answering it, but he fought for the phone until he got it. So, I waited until he was asleep to check his messages with his ‘dad’. When I saw who it was, my entire world came crashing down. “I left in the middle of the night. I didn’t even bother trying to wake him up and talk to him about it. I just left. I drove and drove for hours

Chapter 19

The rain outside had gotten heavier over the past hours. The streets of New York would no doubt be flooded by morning, and workers would either call in sick or blame the weather for something so they won’t have to go in for their daily jobs. However, Theodore didn’t think about any of that. He could only think about the woman sleeping peacefully beside him. He was propped on his elbow, watching Abigail in a curled state, taking deep, slow breaths as she slept. She was a quiet sleeper--not even a single sound. However, she did sometimes twitch with an uncomfortable look on her face until she eventually fell back into peace, looking like the living epitome of sleeping beauty. It has been an h

Chapter 20

The rain had completely disappeared today, replaced with the blazing sunlight. The streets seemed like there was no rain the night before, and everyone went about in their usual morning rush.Theodore held the car door open for Abigail before joining her on the other side. They drove in comfortable silence as the morning news filled the quietness of the car. However, unlike all the other times they travelled together, Theodore held Abigail’s hand across the console, which was highly comfortable for them both.As Theodore drove past Brown’s Café that was right across from his place of work, Abigail stared at him in confusion.“I thought we were getting breakfast,” she pointed out in questioning.Theodore nodded. “We are. But I’m taking you somewhere that is closer to your workplace. I don’t want to make you late,” he said, causing Abigail’s cheeks to heat up.“Hav
