Chapter 40 Assistant

Monday morning, a few days since Leo told me they would leave me in charge of the school. I have never looked forward to school since today! It has been a while since cool girl Hailey Mae Collins rule the school again. No more forced lunch dates and meetings with them. And especially, no one would be telling me what to do.For a week that is.I yawned loudly and took a sip of my hot coffee while I was waiting on set. My first day of being in charge of Waynard High and I am already up so early because of the change of schedule for my photoshoot. I don’t even know if it is karma for being this happy of being away from the student councils or not.“Ha - I mean - Felisha!” Kaila hissed at me while glowering at my slump form on the folding chair. &ldqu

Chapter 41 Logs

The bell signaling the first period ended, and now I have at least half an hour’s rest before heading for my next class. I was planning on staying in the room until I remembered that I had to meet up with Stella and brief her on some things to take note of.I groaned and pulled my butt off my seat before heading to the school cafeteria where we were supposed to meet. As I was walking, I noticed that my phone my buzzing inside of my phone. When I checked the screen, I saw a message from the science project group chat. It was from Romeo. He was informing us that he couldn’t make it to school today.Great, two of my groupmates are going to be a no-show for our physics class. Perfect. At least I will have an excuse not to do anything during that time.As so

Chapter 42 A Heroic Act by Collins

We finally reached the rooftop, and just as the kid opened the door for us, I saw one larger kid holding the other by his collar and lifting him up by the air. Nice. We were just in time for the drama. I thought as I observed the scene with excitement. I sure do hope that Stella’s watching me do nothing.“Dein, Conor, that’s enough! I brought miss Hailey with me. If you guys don’t want to get in trouble with the student council, then you guys better stop it right now.” I glared at the kid who brought us here. This little brat! And I was just starting to enjoy the show!“Miss Hailey is the peacekeeper, so I suggest that you boys cease your fighting,” Stella added

Chapter 43 A Guy Named Ethan

“Hailey, if you want to skip work today, just say the words.” My friend, Kayla, said to me after I told her of the horrific events that afternoon. “You had a bad day today. I am sure that the director will understand if you can’t make it to the photoshoot.” I was in my trailer truck, where I headed the moment the afternoon classes were canceled because of the incident earlier. Normally, I would have gone home, but whenever I am alone, my mind will automatically fly to the scenario on the roof. My brain would start to fantasize all about the scene. It kept showing me what would have happened if I screwed up at some point and ended up dropping the kid. I shivered and started rubbing my arms out of fear. “I’m fine. Don’t worry about me, Kayla.” I forced a smile when I looked at her. “I can still do the photoshoot. And besides, isn’t today a very special day? We have a guest arriving soon. I don’t think that it would be nice to ditch work.” Kayla stared at me. She was obviously worrie

Chapter 44 Cutting Classes

Maybe I should just drop out of class. Yes, that would be a very wise decision. If only my parents would agree with me on that request. After my shoot with Ethan, I did not respond to him and hastily made my way home. I did not even bother to give him a response to his question about whether I am Hailey or not - what’s the point? If I argue that I am not, that would just make me seem more guilty. I barely got any sleep during the weekend because of that, thus making me feel so exhausted while making my way to school. I was anxious that I would see Romeo today. My head kept on darting from left to right to keep a watchful eye on my surroundings for any sign of that weirdo new kid named Romeo. “Good morning, Hailey!” If I did not remind myself that I am in school and pretty much in a public place, I would have screamed and body slammed Sandy right there. “Sandy? What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be on…tour?” I whispered. I may be stupid at times, but there is no way that I wo

Chapter 45 A Troublesome Phone Call

I have this habit that I always do when I find myself in a troublesome situation. And that is ignoring the problem in front of me. I turn on my heels and pretend not to see Xander while I head for the opposite direction. “Where do you think you’re going?” Xander pulls the back collar of my uniform and make me face him. As soon as I see his face, I can already see the frown starting to form on his forehead. “You dragged me out here and you’re just going to leave?” “Every student for themselves.” I say it like it is supposed to be common knowledge. It only irritated Xander more. “Seriously, what is wrong with you?” He drapes a hand over his face like he’s trying to collect himself before breathing out a heavy sigh. “Never mind. Everything is wrong with you.” He grumbles before fishing his phone out of his pocket like he is calling for someone. “Are you saying that I am a weirdo?” I eye him carefully and wait for him to respond, but he’s too busy talking on the phone to even acknow

Chapter 46 Charity for Kids

Going along with Xander is probably the worst thing that I have ever done in my entire life. We headed back to his house where we had to dress as Felisha and Gabrielle. I promise you, I did not do it willingly, but considering that most of this is my fault, I decided that it was not worth arguing about. While we were in his van, Xander kept on asking me why I was running away from Romeo, but I just did not find enough courage to tell him the whole story. I’m just not ready to share that information because it would just feel like I'm admitting that it did happen and I'm not ready to accept the fact that someone once again figured out my secret. It just adds to my anxiety, and I am just not ready for that yet. Thankfully, Xander notices my discomfort and doesn’t seem like he was going to push me to share my troubles. When we reached the venue of the event, that’s when I realized that it was actually a charity event for kids in hospitals. Don’t get me wrong. I like the idea of charit

Chapter 47 The Woman was Too Stunned To Speak

The hospital is no longer a gloomy piece of... depressing atmosphere. Instead, the hallway has now become a fashion runway. Most of the kids are willing to partake in the event, while others, who are more on the shy and timid side, just prefer to watch. I taught the kids how to walk and pose. Xander helped me a little, because let’s face it, between him and I, I am the better model. I think that he helped out most with the sound and the red carpet in the hallway, along with the stage lighting. The nurses help out by helping the kids change into some clothes. I am quite surprised to see that we have enough clothes for most of the kids here. I guess my mom has a lot more children’s clothing with her than I thought. “Look alive, everyone!!” I cheer for the children while they are continuing to walk along the red carpet. “You all look like you’re all sick! What’s with the faces and bandages!?” Xander nudges my ribs after my last comment. “We’re in the hospital! Naturally, they are s

Chapter 48 Bargain

Since the three of us are working on this project as a group, telling Xander about my Romeo dilemma probably wasn't the smartest move I could have made. The atmosphere around the three of us as we sit in a cafe is more than awkward, as I refuse to make eye contact with someone in particular. Romeo knows that I live a double life as Felisha Hughes and I now know that Ethan Sky is Romeo. And Xander, who I recently confided in, now knows Romeo’s true identity. But Romeo doesn’t know that Xander is also living a double life as Gabrielle, which makes it a little difficult to strike up a conversation. “Liars…we’re all liars here. Does it matter who talks first?” I have been overthinking a bit, so I have been too caught up in my own thoughts that I did not realize that I was verbalizing my thoughts. Xander and Romeo looked up from their tablets to give me curious glances as I brought my cup of tea to my mouth. “Hailey, are you feeling alright?” Romeo turned to ask me, while Xander, who

Chapter 49 Missing Member

After days and days of preparation, we finally managed to finish our project. Thanks to my unwilling cooperation and the other’s impressive report making skills, our project made it into the science fair. I don’t know whether to be happy or not, because that would mean that we have to go to school on the weekend just to present our project to the other faculties and visitors of the school. I mean, why can’t they just take one day off on weekdays to have the school fair!? Is that so hard and taxing on the students!? Not to mention that we still have an upcoming exam heading our way. This school has such inconsiderate board leaders, I swear. “Hailey, wipe that grim expression off of your face and smile.” Xander nudges me as we stand next to our school project, which I am very tempted to drop on the floor right now since I want to go home. “Hailey May Collins does not smile. Especially in this place full of smart people. I do not belong here.” “It's amazing how confidently you can
