CHAPTER 11

December 8, 2050 - CREF, Wolfe Creek Crater, Western Australia  Dr. Jhero is now keeping an eye on me and is watching my moves. I don't know how to feel about that. And after knowing that he's now keeping an eye on me just because of our heated conversation on our first day here, his presence that gives me the feeling that something is off only intensifies, not just that, I now feel that something is up with him.  The sleepiness that I feel vanished after Sean told me that things. Currently, I am lying on my back while his arms are wrapped around me. He's sound asleep while here I am, eyes closed but my mind is fully awake, overthinking. I sighed again for the I don't know how many times tonight before I decided to go to the quarter's pantry for a drink.  I carefully lift Sean's arm that is resting on my tummy. He stirs but did not wake, and I silently got out of the bed and creep out of the room. The silent an

CHAPTER 12

They say do not raise expectations so that in the end, you won't get hurt when the outcome did not come as you expected it to be. This is such an old saying, but even these days, it is still applicable in every circumstance.  Even when the analysis is still not done, we could see that just like the first one, we won't get anything about this UVirus. Still, we expected something. In the end, we were all disappointed to see that the result does not make sense at all.  We sat all together, the result in front of us, and brainstormed to see if something went wrong. We've gone brain out, but we did not see anything wrong with the procedures.  Everything is fine, everything went well, still, the results came out to be like this. No sense at all. Our shoulders fell in disappointment as realization dawned us, our efforts come out to be for nothing.  "See, the problem is in the UVirus." Dr.

CHAPTER 13

"W-what? Are you s-serious?" I stuttered.  He hugs me tighter, "Sshh, silence. He can hear us if we talk louder than this one. He could be watching us right now."  The realization then dawned on me after a moment, I secretly look around, hoping to see something strange or suspicious but of course, I didn't see any. Sensing that I finally understand his point, Sean advises me to stop acting that way or else we'll be doomed.  "What you are thinking is right. We are in Dr. Jhero Colleti's lair, so, therefore, he has access to everything. There are invisible cameras and recorders installed around. So he could hear us, and see us."  "But how?" I ask in a whispered voice, careful not to be heard by the recorders installed around. "That's invading someone's privacy, and there is a law saying that you couldn't put hidden recorders and cameras on someone's private space without consent."

CHAPTER 14

December 9, 2050 - CREF, Wolfe Creek Crater, Western Australia  The next day, we were at the meeting room again, talking about our next step for the research now that we got the result of the virus analysis. Sean told me his plan to act like we still don't know anything and that I shouldn't tell anyone about our talk last night, and about what happened in the basement when I tried to sneak in.  Speaking of the basement, Sean checked the footages on the system that night when I told him what happened. He was planning to delete the footages that show my intrusion since there are no securities in the monitoring room, they only review the footages every morning. But then he found nothing and said it was like, someone has wiped off everything from the system that will prove my intrusion. He suspects that it was Captain Welton who did it, so we agreed that we'll find a way to talk to him today.  Now, back on the meeting, Sean is telling everyone tha

By playing with Dr. Jhero's game, that means I have to be stronger and wiser, and I have to work as hard as Sean does and be careful in every movement I do. When I agreed to participate in this research mission, I only have one goal in mind: to help make an antidote for the virus and stop it from spreading around the world. But now, after knowing all these, I have different goals to make, as well as Sean.  He sent another file to me through email and made sure that Dr. Jhero won't be able to get into the SGR Pad's system. The file is a copy of everything that he found out about Dr. Jhero and the Colleti family, and based on the file, their family hides a lot of secrets.  From their hospitals around the world to their other businesses, properties, and all, everything about them has a secret. Mostly, those secrets were their non-government covered business deals, underground or illegal businesses, and transactions. They even hav

CHAPTER 16

December 10, 2050 - Outside the Facility, Wolfe Creek Crater, Western Australia  Captain Welton and Sean agreed to meet outside the facility at exactly 12:30 am, so basically, it is already midnight. Of course, I didn't let Sean go without sleep. I ordered him to take even just a nap which turned out to be a couple of hours sleep.  On our way outside, as we wait for the elevator to bring us up, I was nervous. Bile was on my throat, my hands are sweating despite the cold night, and I am sweating profusely. One of the rules of the facility is not to get out without prior notice and approval from the administrators and Dr. Jhero.  "Sean, are you sure we wouldn't get caught?" I ask as the elevator ascended.  He turns in my direction and his eyes narrowed seeing me sweat and tremble in nervousness. He holds my sweaty and cold hand and brought it to his lips.  "Babe, calm dow

CHAPTER 17

"H-how..."  I couldn't comprehend what did just Lieutenant Stone said.  Dr. Jhero. Zombies. His toys. His servants.  What does that supposed to mean?  And as if Lieutenant Stone manage to read my mind, he said,  "Sean's suspicion is right. Dr. Jhero controls the zombies, and he has control of this whole situation too. As per the question 'how?', we will find it out when the sun rises, or once we get back inside the facility— shit!"  We all turned to him as we heard him curse and hissed while looking at his virtual laptop's screen. Sean carefully pulled to look at it too, while Captain Welton is already kneeling, his eyes narrowed. On the screen, a footage of a commotion in the lobby of the medical team's quarter is playing.  All of our co-doctors are out in their rooms, Dr. Jhero is standing while two men wearing

CHAPTER 18

World domination.  Dr. Jherusalem Colleti.  UVirus. A parasite that is designed to do and follow all of his commands and demands, as a part of his world domination project.  Silence fell on us. The lobby, despite its air-conditioned and isolated space with no windows at all, just a huge space, seems to be suffocating. Air leaves my lungs as those words left his mouth, and I find it hard to breathe. The crowd we made is not helping, and the collar of my pink long-sleeved only suffocates me more.  Dr. Jhero's words came back to me. I am emotionally unstable, just one push of a finger and I will crumble down with my emotions. But then I told Sean that I will also play with Dr. Jhero's game, and for that, I needed to be strong. But then, another but, that was when I thought we still have time. I didn't think we will know everything so soon like this and that even before we start to pla

CHAPTER 19

"Dr. Jhero wants us all to become part of his world domination thing, and although we don't want to become part of it, we don't have a choice but to agree, or else our families— their families will be either become zombies or be dead."       Of course, all of the villains in stories use feelings and emotions as their greatest weapon against the protagonist, and when that happens, protagonists don't have a choice but to be controlled by the hands of the villain. The same goes in real life, when the bad person uses your feelings as a weapon against you, you don't have a choice but to bend down and give in.      Blackmailing is one of the best strategies to get someone in your hands.      With Sean's words, I remember my family. My mom and my dad. It's been a while sin

CHAPTER 20

The military quarters in just like any of those military barracks I see in movies and documentation vlogs of soldiers. With single beds lined up, some double-decks, and sleeping bags lying on the floor. A pantry is on a far corner of the quarters, and another far end are computers. Looking around I notice that they look few, but they are a couple of hundreds when we get here.  "Where are the others?" I ask.  Captain Welton sighs, "Some are doing their rounds around the facility, and some were turned into zombies. Just this morning."  "What?" I can't hide my surprise. "You mean..."  "Dr. Jhero turned them into zombies, said it was our punishment for messing with the facility's system. And he said just like your boyfriend, I was a fool for bringing hundreds of soldiers here. Half of us were turned into zombies, now we're just eighty. He said those he turned into his toys were not nec
