Chapter Eleven

Slowly opening my eyes, I looked around the darkened room. I realized I was in my room, cocooned in my bed. A warm hand held mine and I looked over at my mom, sleeping softly at the edge of the bed with half of her body slumped over in a chair.    I gently moved my hand away and went to stretch a bit, my body felt really stiff. A dull pain lingered on the sides of my head.    “Oh Sweetie you’re awake. Let me get you some water” My mom said softly.    I realized how dry my throat felt and a cough followed forcibly.    Sabine hovered by my doorw

The next few days were a blur as I gathered my strength. If I stood too long, my head would start hurting again and my legs felt weak from laying in bed for so long. My heart also felt heavy at the news that my mother wasn’t my mother and before I had time to process, she left for her new job.    Sabine and Jax kept me updated on the consistent train of guests stopping into town, trying to figure out what the beacon of power was.    Meghan stopped by and expressed her excitement that I knew who she was and the fact that apparently her boyfriend was going to come into town soon at the request of Jax.    With Sabine’s permission, Jax decided today

“How was your walk?” Sabine asked as Jax helped me up the stairs to my room. “Eventful.” He murmured back, his hands holding my hips firmly as we walked together. “How so?” She pressed on, following us. “Damien stopped us for a chat.” I said bluntly. “The vampire? He’s a dangerous one.” She said absentmindedly. “Funny enough he said the same thing about you.” Sabine paused on the stairs as I felt a shift

Chapter Fourteen

Jax loomed over as I laid back on the bed he just threw me on. He crawled over me , being careful not to put his full body weight on top of me. My chest rose and fell dramatically, my hardened nipples scratching against my top. Jax softly kissed down my jaw, making his way down my neck. He paused at the base of my neck between my collarbone, he gave it a small lick causing a slight shiver down my back. He growled at my response, biting the spot this time softly. I  arched up at him, letting out a small moan. “Fuck” he whispered, he slipped his hand under my shirt while I had

Chapter Fifteen

Jax showed me around his house. There were multiple bedrooms, he explained that the majority of the pack did live regularly in the house. They had family houses throughout the town, where their parents or human family lives.  The ‘backyard’ stretched for miles, broken neatly into different sections. There was a giant swimming pool surrounded by chairs and a small brick fire pit. The other section looked like some kind of platform or stage, Jax explained that it was used for hands-on training. He said the small building to the side of the training platform was a weapon training room.  “What are you training for?” I asked; confused why it was basically a mini boot camp.  Jax shrugged. “I guess anything and everything. Most of the time we live in peace but there are rogue wolves and vampires.”

Chapter Sixteen

My head snapped to Damien. He lingered outside the clearing, in between the trees.  “What are you doing here?” I said, my voice quivering as I became hyper aware I was entirely alone. I pulled my hoodie closer to me, unsure why the tightness was comforting.  “You called me here” He replied, with a slight smile. He wore a casual suit and pants, definitely not something anyone normal would wear trekking through a forest.  Taking a step back towards the path, I shook my head. I wondered if I made a loud enough noise if it would wake Meghan. Or catch the attention of any other wolf around. “No, I did not call you.” “Maybe… not you..” He matched my steps, coming forward. “But your magic did” I stuttered on my w

Chapter Seventeen

The smell of bacon cooking awoke me.  Groaning, I got out of bed unhappy about how fast morning had come. I threw on an oversized t-shirt and made my way to the kitchen. “Goodmorning!” Meghan greeted me, cheerfully. She patted the seat next to her. “I hope you’re hungry.”My stomach grumbled loudly almost as if responding to her. I gave a smile in return and started eating. “Hey are you going to work today?” I asked, trying to be nonchalantly. She nodded in return. “Do you think you can drop me off at Sabine’s shop when you go?” I kept my eyes on the plate of my food. “I don’t think she’s back in town yet.” Meghan

Chapter Eighteen

“Interesting… you put the pieces together and it’s not entirely a surprise…” Damien was basically muttering to himself at this point. I snatched my hands away, stepping back towards the town line. His eyes followed my movement but he didn’t move. “It doesn’t matter. I’m not killing someone.” I continued moving closer to the town edge. He tilted his head at me. “Who said you had to kill someone?”“They said I had to spill human blood to trigger the werewolf gene,” I explained. “They?” Damien pressed on. “Sabine. What does it matter?” I asked hi

We made it home with the collection of books. Jax had them brought directly to his room so we could start going through them. Meghan dropped us off and turned around to go work a shift at the diner.   As we started to sort the books on the giant table, someone on the staff brought us a huge tray of food. A mixture of fruit and sandwiches.  “I hate that” I said quietly, as soon as they left.  “Hate what?” Jax asked.  “That you have people just waiting on you. It’s awkward.” I sat down on Jax’s bed, throwing the dirty jacket on the floor.  “I wouldn’t know the difference. If it makes you feel better, they are paid. And they’re free to leave whenever they want. Most view it as an honor to work

Chapter Twenty

After a shower and some breakfast, Jax and I headed out to the clearing.  “It’s pretty awful ringing noise” I warned Jax, taking the coin out to call Damien.  He nodded silently, standing near me. I could tell his body was tense.  Taking a deep breath, I flipped the coin, covering my ears immediately. The coin fell onto the ground and I looked over at Jax, who was watching me with a puzzled look.  “I didn’t hear anything.” He said.  I picked up the coin, inspecting it.  “I heard the same noise but last time he was here before this touched the ground. Should I try again?” I asked.  Jax shrugged
