Chapter 1

Miranda was walking, but her gaze was fixed on her phone as she was texting a co-worker when she collided with someone. If it hadn’t been for that person, Miranda would have surely fallen down and embarrassed herself at this party. “I am sor—” The words were caught in her throat when she saw the person with whom she crashed. How can she ever forget him? She has longed to see him for many years. It flabbergasted Eric to see his wife after seven years in his arms. If it weren’t for Lizzy, his daughter, then he wouldn’t know for how long he would have kept her in his arms. It felt like a very familiar emotion inside him, and it was too good to be true to have her so close to him. Miranda, though, was astounded to see her daughter so grown up after only seven years. She is now ten years old and has evolved into a beautiful girl. Her eyes had always yearned to see her precious angel. “Dad, this party is extremely dull. When can we go home?” She asked him, completely ignoring her mother.

Chapter 2

Miranda was distorted. She wished for nothing more than for things to return to normal after the misfortune that took place seven years ago. It’s a shame that her life will now be filled with loneliness. But she has to be strong and accept her fate. And with that in mind, she went to work. She worked at Little Stars Orphanage in Bluestone Valley. Her uncle used to own this place, but she has taken over the management post his death. She loves the place from the bottom of her heart. It was unfortunate that she would be unable to show her daughter the love she deserved on the day she left. So, she spends time with the kids in her orphanage. It can be described as a kind of replacement or redemption, and everyone needs one reason in their life to help them survive. Further, this place was like an extended family to her because she had lost her own a long time ago, and it was the hardest decision she had ever made. This was one of hers. Miranda arrived at her destination within ten mi

Chapter 3

Miranda has been the only person on Eric’s mind for the past few days. Who is he kidding, though? Since the moment he met her, since the day he asked her out, since the time they have been dating, and since the since the promise of eternity of being together, she has never left her mind. Even after she left them, he never stopped thinking about her. So many thoughts were battling in his brain. Why does she still have such an impact on him after all this time? He was doing well without her. She had to barge back into his life just as he thought he could move on. No jokes there, but he is well aware that he will never be able to move on from her. Not that he tried. Eric was walking past their town hospital exit hall when he noticed Miranda entering. “What the hell are you doing here?” He spoke his thoughts louder than he wanted to. “I— um—” Having caught her off guard, she stammered. She couldn’t think of the right way to respond to him. Instead of telling the complete truth, she f

Chapter 4

Eric's parents were astounded to discover Miranda had abruptly left her home. None of them expected her to abandon her husband and daughter. The reason is still unknown to them. Miranda, they believed, was not the type of person who would give up her family for selfish motives. She did appear to be stressed and apprehensive as the days passed before she left them. They always suspected that something was bothering her, and they did try to talk to her, but she persuaded them that everything was fine. Lander and Rachel exchanged knowing glances and went to greet her. They were still convinced that their daughter-in-law had made such a significant decision for a good reason. They attempted to contact her after she left, but they were unable to do so. She had changed her number, and there was no clue about her whereabouts. “Hello, Miranda. It’s been a very long time.” Rachel was the first to speak. Miranda was taken aback when she noticed her in-laws standing in front of her. First, it

Eric had just finished cleaning the kitchen after his daughter had left for school with a neighbour when the doorbell rang. His instant thoughts turned to Miranda. Even now, since the moment she left them, whenever the doorbell rang, he anticipated her to be there, but he was always greeted with disappointment. So much has changed since then. When Miranda was with them, he merely provided minor assistance by assisting her with domestic chores, but in her absence, he was not left with any choice but to take complete control of it. Not that he is complaining. It only made him wish that he would have helped her more around the house, and he felt that maybe then she would not have left him. In these seven years, he tried to find numerous reasons for her leaving them, and it only made him feel worse with each passing day, which has now turned into anger and frustration. When he opened the door, though, he found his parents standing there. “What a pleasant surprise, Mom and Dad! What

The lift door was about to be closed when Eric heard a female voice calling for it to be stopped. Miranda’s reappearance in the hospital surprised him. “Thank you so much—” Miranda, however, was taken aback when she noticed it was Eric who was in the lift. “What are you doing here?” “One of my friends got into an accident, so I am going to see him. What are you doing here?” He asked her carefully. He did not want to appear concerned. She was relieved that neither he nor her daughter needed medical attention. Their earlier encounter in the hospital was still fresh in their minds. So she was unable to ask him upfront about it. She responded to his question with the same response she had previously given. "I came to meet the children in the cancer ward." “Again?” He asked, his brow furrowed. “Yes.” She gave him an uneasy smile. In contrast to the last time, he noticed Miranda fidgeting with her fingers. She always does that when she lies. “Okay—” He stared blankly at her. They were

Miranda was tapping her foot impatiently while Benji was debating which flower to purchase. “Just pick a goddamn flower, Benji. Simply giving her flowers will make her happy. It doesn't matter which flower you give her. The fact that you went out of your way to give her this is in itself a big deal.” She exasperatedly told him. “What if she doesn't like the color of it, Miranda? I don't want to upset her. She is a friend of mine.” Benji elaborated. “In any case, none of these flowers appeal to me.” “Benji—” She was about to say something, but Benji exclaimed excitedly. “Look at that. A black rose! This is perfect.” He chirped happily, as if he were a child. “You want to give her a black rose?" She asked him in surprise. "You know that, right? It is quite rare and expensive.” Benji's response surprised her and made her feel awed. “Of course, Miranda. My intention in giving her flowers is to make her feel special. The rose is a classic, and the black rose is just going to make thi

Chapter 8

Eric was preparing dinner for himself and his daughter in the kitchen while Lizzy and her friends were doing group studies in the living room. He was about to leave to go to his room to finish some of his office work in the room when he overheard Lizzy’s friend discussing their mother. His daughter, unlike others, was listening to her friends in silence, and his heart clenched at that moment. During his heartbreak, he lost sight of the fact that Lizzy was still a child who longed for her mother's love. He may have loved her a lot in an attempt to fill the void left by Miranda's departure, but no matter how much he tries, he will never be able to fill that place. Lizzy was aware of Miranda's existence, except for the fact that she had abandoned all of them seven years ago. He knew that he needed to inform his daughter about her mother's identity. Miranda kept her word and stayed away from Lizzy when he asked her to. But now, he must bridge the gap between them. Eric was sitting at th

Miranda was busy with her paperwork when she heard a loud knock. “Come in.” “Hey,” Eric said. She was, however, surprised to see him there, smiling at her. “Hey,” she said hesitantly. “May I take a seat?” He asked her. “Oh, yeah— I apologize. Please take a seat.” She scratched her forehead. “So, what brings you here?” She asked him curiously. “I have been thinking a lot about everything relating to us, and I am tired of us shouting and insulting each other. Things may have changed significantly in the past, but you are still the woman I have always loved and the mother of my child, so I wanted to call a truce.” He explained everything to her. Miranda was surprised at Eric's words. She was not expecting this. With how things had been between them, she was startled by his sudden change of behaviour. “I am not sure how to respond to that, Eric. I think I’d like that.” Nonetheless, she decided to take the bait. At the very least, she will get to spend some time with her daughter, e

Chapter 10

Miranda awoke the next day in unfamiliar surroundings. The last thing she remembers is having dinner with Eric, and everything after that is a blur. She has no recollection of it. She walked out of the unknown bedroom, hoping she was at Eric's place rather than a stranger. She was relieved to discover that she was indeed in Eric’s house. “You are up.” Eric said, prompting her to turn around. “Can you tell me what happened last night?” She asked him curiously, “And why is my head hurting so much? It's like having a hangover.” “I am not sure what you're talking about.” Eric said too quickly, fearful of what might happen next, as Miranda had a calculating look in her eyes where he thought last events would come to her. “What exactly did you put in the coke?” With a glare, she inquired. “As I previously stated, I have no idea what you are talking about.” He attempted to avoid the subject. “You are unbelievable, Eric. I had no idea you could stoop so low. I was expecting you to bug m
