Miranda was tapping her foot impatiently while Benji was debating which flower to purchase.

“Just pick a goddamn flower, Benji. Simply giving her flowers will make her happy. It doesn't matter which flower you give her. The fact that you went out of your way to give her this is in itself a big deal.” She exasperatedly told him.

“What if she doesn't like the color of it, Miranda? I don't want to upset her. She is a friend of mine.” Benji elaborated. “In any case, none of these flowers appeal to me.”

“Benji—” She was about to say something, but Benji exclaimed excitedly.

“Look at that. A black rose! This is perfect.” He chirped happily, as if he were a child.

“You want to give her a black rose?" She asked him in surprise. "You know that, right? It is quite rare and expensive.”

Benji's response surprised her and made her feel awed. “Of course, Miranda. My intention in giving her flowers is to make her feel special. The rose is a classic, and the black rose is just going to make thi

Eric was preparing dinner for himself and his daughter in the kitchen while Lizzy and her friends were doing group studies in the living room. He was about to leave to go to his room to finish some of his office work in the room when he overheard Lizzy’s friend discussing their mother. His daughter, unlike others, was listening to her friends in silence, and his heart clenched at that moment. During his heartbreak, he lost sight of the fact that Lizzy was still a child who longed for her mother's love. He may have loved her a lot in an attempt to fill the void left by Miranda's departure, but no matter how much he tries, he will never be able to fill that place. Lizzy was aware of Miranda's existence, except for the fact that she had abandoned all of them seven years ago. He knew that he needed to inform his daughter about her mother's identity. Miranda kept her word and stayed away from Lizzy when he asked her to. But now, he must bridge the gap between them. Eric was sitting at th

  • Longing You   Chapter 9

Miranda was busy with her paperwork when she heard a loud knock. “Come in.” “Hey,” Eric said. She was, however, surprised to see him there, smiling at her. “Hey,” she said hesitantly. “May I take a seat?” He asked her. “Oh, yeah— I apologize. Please take a seat.” She scratched her forehead. “So, what brings you here?” She asked him curiously. “I have been thinking a lot about everything relating to us, and I am tired of us shouting and insulting each other. Things may have changed significantly in the past, but you are still the woman I have always loved and the mother of my child, so I wanted to call a truce.” He explained everything to her. Miranda was surprised at Eric's words. She was not expecting this. With how things had been between them, she was startled by his sudden change of behaviour. “I am not sure how to respond to that, Eric. I think I’d like that.” Nonetheless, she decided to take the bait. At the very least, she will get to spend some time with her daughter, e

  • Longing You   Chapter 10

Miranda awoke the next day in unfamiliar surroundings. The last thing she remembers is having dinner with Eric, and everything after that is a blur. She has no recollection of it. She walked out of the unknown bedroom, hoping she was at Eric's place rather than a stranger. She was relieved to discover that she was indeed in Eric’s house. “You are up.” Eric said, prompting her to turn around. “Can you tell me what happened last night?” She asked him curiously, “And why is my head hurting so much? It's like having a hangover.” “I am not sure what you're talking about.” Eric said too quickly, fearful of what might happen next, as Miranda had a calculating look in her eyes where he thought last events would come to her. “What exactly did you put in the coke?” With a glare, she inquired. “As I previously stated, I have no idea what you are talking about.” He attempted to avoid the subject. “You are unbelievable, Eric. I had no idea you could stoop so low. I was expecting you to bug m

  • Longing You   Chapter 11

Eric was working in his office when he received a package addressed to him delivered at his home. To say he was surprised would be an understatement, as he had expected anything but his. He was enraged, depressed, and perplexed all at the same time. He never imagined Miranda would actually send him the divorce papers. Yes, she was pissed at him, and he completely understood her reaction after the trick he played on her. He wanted to talk to her again, but he gave her some time to cool off. But certainly, that didn't help his case, as she went ahead and sent him the divorce papers. He called Richard to reschedule his meeting for the day before going to meet Miranda at the orphanage, but she was not there. She left early for home, which was unusual for her. So he went to her house to talk with her. Eric rang the doorbell, hoping it was his wife, but it was Melissa. She appeared to be ready to kill him the moment her gaze fell on him. “Please don't shut the door on me. I really need

Miranda was completely shattered. She had no idea how to react or what to do. Everything was taking its toll on her, and it appeared that her life was taking a wrong turn. The phone call she received the next day took everything to a whole new level. Miranda was at her desk when her phone rang from an unknown number. She was unsure whether she should take the call or not, but she answered it anyway. “Hello.” “Miranda, this is Nancy. You must come to the Towns Hospital right away. Eric was involved in a car accident —” Miranda couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Yes, she wanted to be away from him, but not at the cost of his life. She rushed to the hospital and went straight to his room. Eric was lying on the bed, his head wrapped in a white bandage. “Miranda,” Nancy said as she approached her. “He is in critical condition. The doctor won’t know if he would wake up or not.” Miranda sobbed as she ran towards Eric. “I am truly sorry, Eric. Please get up. You cannot abandon our da

  • Longing You   Chapter 13

Miranda, Eric, and Lizzy were having a good time together. Much to her surprise, Eric did not ask or nag her about her leaving him, despite the fact that she had seen him look at her with a thoughtful expression on numerous occasions. Miranda desperately wanted to tell him everything, but she was terrified. She was currently sitting on the couch at Benji’s place, completely zoned out, while the others were having a heated discussion about the movie they saw the night before, but it was cut short by the doorbell. Instead of opening the door, everyone was staring at each other silently, which caused Miranda to huff in frustration and stand up to greet the person behind the door. “What are you doing here, Eric?” She asked, clearly surprised to see him. “I just came here to deliver this paper to Austin.” He explained himself. “OK, come on in.” She was absolutely dumbfounded. “Hello, Eric. Sorry for the inconvenience.” Austin expressed regret for the inconvenience. “It’s not a proble

Instead of having a nightmare, Miranda was simply tossing and turning in her bed. She knew she couldn’t sleep, so she grabbed her jacket and headed to the Midnight Snackers. She was surprised to see Eric sitting at her table when she walked into the restaurant. She took a deep breath and approached him. “Hey. I didn’t expect to see you here.” She stated this while sitting across from him. “I just wanted to see what it is about this place that draws you in. But I understand now. It helps to know that we are not the only ones who have a messed up life.” He informed her. “Eric—” She sighs tiredly, clearly as upset as he is about what is going on with them. “Chuck it. Forget what I said. I think I should leave.” He was about to leave when something happened that caused him to stop dead in his tracks. “I killed someone.” She blurted out. “I don’t believe you.” Eric did not believe one bit that Miranda was capable of doing such an atrocious thing. “I did it, Eric. That is why I was

After much thinking, two days later, Miranda decided to go to Eric’s place to meet him for the last time, as he didn’t even call her after she told him the truth. She drives herself to his home, only to find Lander and Rachel there. “Miranda.” Rachel immediately hugged her tightly. “Why didn’t you tell us anything? We could have helped you. This morning, Eric told us everything. He is a mess, Miranda. Please, you two need to talk to each other.” “There’s nothing else to say, Rachel. I have just come to give—” Lander, however, cut her off. “Please, Miranda. There are still a lot of things unsaid. Meet him only once.” He insisted, and she nodded. Miranda went towards his door and knocked. She decided to let herself in after a few more knocks and found Eric sleeping. She moved in closer to get a better look at him. She noticed bags under his eyes, and one of his hands was bandaged. She sat next to him. “I am so sorry, Eric. I should not have returned to your life. It’s entirely my

The next morning, Eric stroked Miranda's hair while she slept soundly. She was wearing a small smile on her lips. When she opened her eyes, she saw him staring at her with the expression she had longed to see for the previous seven years. Nobody could ever know how much she yearned for him all these years. “Why are you looking at me like that?” She asked him nervously. After all these years, this felt new to her. “I am just making up for the last seven years. I swear to God, Miranda, if you hadn't killed him, I would have done it myself, and I could guarantee you that he wouldn't have died just once.” He stated. She attempted to calm him down. “It's all over now. He has gone far away from our life.” “How did you sleep?” He asked her worriedly. “Surprisingly, the best I have had in the last few years. It's rightly said that a home is where the heart is. How about you?” She asked him. “The best. I have missed you so much, Mira.” Eric told her while pecking her cheeks. “I missed yo
