Chapter Ninety

Rose “There she is!” Kroll’s voice cut through the air like a dagger, each syllable stung. Kroll was perched in an oversized wooden chair, a demented king on his throne with Greta standing beside him. A cruel smirk was plastered on her face.“She’s here; what do you want?” Alaric dryly motioned towards me.“You can leave, little boy.” Greta giggled maniacally at Alaric. The flustered woman from the hall had dissipated into the night. Hiding in Kroll’s shadow seemed to empower her.“I’m sorry, Kroll, did you hear that buzzing? I think a bug somehow got in here.” Alaric swatted at the air. Kroll rolled his eyes at his nephew.“Shut up, both of you! I didn’t tell you to bring the blessed wolf here just for me to be forced to watch a childish fight.” Kroll growled towards Alaric and Greta. Silence fell over the room.Pru shifted her weight from foot to foot beside me; nervous energy glimmered around her. I tried

Chapter Ninety One

Orion“You all know your Luna was kidnapped. Damian has located where she is being held captive. I know that we have settled into a peaceful existence since I expelled my father’s remaining supporters. It is time for us to show the world that we have not forgotten our roots. We may be more compassionate, but that does dissolve our strength.” My voice rang out in the clearing. In this clearing, we accepted Silver Crescent into our pack; in this clearing, my pack accepted my mate; in this clearing, Rose took her place beside me as my Luna...Men and women of varying ages stood before me. Anger and fear swam amongst the crowd. Their desire to get their Luna back was nearly as strong as mine.“Let’s get our Luna back!” Iris screamed at the top of her lungs. Her energy fed the other pack members.“For the Luna!” Pack members screeched.Pack warriors began to shift, not caring about their clothes. The sounds of fabric ripping, bones cracking, and

Chapter Ninety Two

PruWhat was she doing? I told her to keep her head down, not challenge Kroll. Did she have a death wish?Alaric’s fingers were tightly wrapped around my wrist as he hauled me out of the cabin. Twigs snapped underneath our feet as we tore through the trees, ignoring the branches and undergrowth that grabbed at our clothing.“What about, Rose?” I wheezed out. Alaric was dragging me behind him. I couldn’t keep up with his pace; I was slowing him down. My body wasn’t built like a werewolf. I had a fragile human body. I was never one to care about fitness. I regretted that now.“We can’t do anything for her right now.” Alaric quietly mumbled under his breath.“What do you mean?” I stopped attempting to keep up with his blistering pace. “We just can’t leave her.”“If we go back there right now, we are throwing away everything we have worked for these past months. Is that what you want?” Alaric tugged at my wrist, but he couldn’t look at me. He kn

Chapter Ninety Three

HarrietCrimson flames ran wild, snaking their way through the underbrush and engulfing the forest around me. Violence was bursting behind every tree and rock. Gnashing of teeth and swiping of paws was everywhere. At any moment, you could be attacked. It was kill or be killed; no one was safe. It was a sinister sight, to say the least. Iris and Damian were a hundred feet away. Both of them were in fine form underneath the moonlight.Damian was almost glued to his sister’s side. After she was taken, something changed inside of him. He never gave off the protective brother vibe before but now touch his sister, and you had to die.Iris seemed to be channeling every emotion that had been haunting her in the fight. She was taking every drop of pain, misery, fear, and resentment out on any wolf that crossed her path. She wanted to make them feel everything that Kroll caused her to go through. None of them would come out of this unscathed.Alastor was ju

Chapter Ninety Four

MattScratching at the back of my mind, he was there. Weak, but still there. Thank Goddess, Pan was letting his presence be known. His scratching became louder and louder until the mental wall crumbled.“Nice to have you back,” I called out to Pan in relief.“Nice to be back...you are in a shit state,” Pan murmured. I felt his strength coursing through my veins. The bruises, cuts, and gashes on my body began to tingle as they started to heal. “So you met our mate without me.”“Not like I had a choice.” Pan had always been a vivacious wolf, but his mood was almost solemn. Being locked away from me was like putting him in solitary confinement. Something had changed inside him, but this wasn’t the time to deep dive into the psyche of the beast who lived inside me.“What’s she like?” At his question, I glanced up at Pru. She was glued to my side as she spoke with Alaric. Her cool brown locks shimmered in the moonlight. She looked ethereal.“Calm

Chapter Ninety Five

HodgesI never asked for the life I was given. My earliest memories were not pleasant. There was only violence and anger lingering behind every breath. My father was a repulsive man; he ruled our house with an iron fist. I was terrified of him. He never let me enjoy my childhood. He rarely let me around people, but I didn’t mind that. It’s not like I really wanted to be around the people in my pack, but the option would have been nice.My mother died before I had a chance to remember her. Sometimes when I fall asleep, I hear someone singing. Even though I didn’t know its words, the song was so familiar, but it always ended the same way, with a blood-curdling scream.I stopped screaming a long time ago. I knew that voice wasn’t mine. Part of me always wondered if that was my mother singing...and screaming. Why did she haunt me, though? Chapter Ninety Six

RoseWith every stride my paws made, I could feel the demonic warmth of Greta's rage encroaching on me."You can't run forever, little girl!" Greta cackled from behind me. A crack of her whip cut through the woods coming after me. Just a little bit further. I skidded out of the woods onto the road I had been on in a different time. Its course seemed unchanged, thank Goddess. The path from my premonition was the same except for a layer of asphalt.I ran down the road as fast as I could. The asphalt gnawing on the pads of my paws. If I wasn't in a life or death situation, I would probably love to wander through the area.My back left paw was ripped out from under me as Greta's fire scorched my fur. My jaw crashed into the street. The taste of metallic blood rushed into my mouth; I had bitten my tongue on impact. I jerked my leg away from Greta's fire, scrambling to get away."Just give up. You will never win against me." Greta taunted me. Her

Chapter Ninety Seven

Orion“Oh, hello, little puppy, have you seen the pathetic Alpha of Black Moon? I was thinking his head would be a delightful souvenir of this battle.” Kroll’s voice rang through the air as clear as a bell. Every word was peppered with cruel satisfaction.I shifted back to my human form and stood tall in front of the disgusting excuse of a wolf. “Is that what my mate was? Just a souvenir?”“Oh, of course not. Your little flower? That’s what you call her, right?” Kroll’s lips curled up into a disgusting grin. “Well, she is the crown jewel in my little collection.”I let out an earth-shaking growl. My mate was a Luna, not a cheap tchotchke for a lunatic’s shelf.“Down, boy,” Kroll smirked; he knew he struck a nerve. “Is that how you treat your superiors?”“The only thing about you that is superior is that distorted God complex of yours.” I casually ran my fingers through my hair. “It’s a shame you are such a sociopath.”“I am not a soci

Chapter Ninety Eight

Rose Greta’s hands wrapped around my neck, trying to squeeze the life out of me. If she was trying to scare me, it wouldn’t work because I had already seen the darkness that waited to consume anyone it could. Compared to that, she was nothing. Her fingers dug into the flesh of my neck, a small stream of blood escaping. Greta was desperate; air bubbles escaped from her mouth.I elongated my claws and slashed through her jacket to her forearm. Greta let go of me and clutched her arm in pain. I grabbed her hair in my hand and violently yanked it.In the water, I had the advantage. Greta was dressed for the Autumn weather; her boots and jacket would do nothing but weigh her down in the water. The best part, though, was that she couldn’t use her fire.I may have been naked, but I would rather be exposed to the cold water than to have anything on me slowing me down.Greta threw a punch at me, causing me to lose my

Chapter Ninety Nine

RoseOrion and I didn’t get back to Black Moon until past sunrise. Orion wanted to stay and help dispose of the bodies, but Alastor and Harriet wouldn’t have it. They took care of the bodies and the fire, erasing the presence of the war the best they could. I rode on Orion’s back during the journey home. Clutching Pru’s jacket for warmth and some sense of modesty. I didn’t really want to have a Lady Godiva moment after the night I had.I honestly didn’t remember much of the trip back home. Once I was on Orion’s back, I knew I was safe and didn’t have to worry about anything. I do remember my parents smothering me, though. My father checked me over at least twice, and my mom almost threw me into the bathroom. After they were satisfied I was clean and not going to die, they went home. I knew that they would be back as soon as they had a catnap.Orion had asked me if I wanted to stay in the guest room, but it was time to go back to our room. Kroll couldn’t touch us
