Chapter One

It’s another average day for me as I bike to work. My clothes, the baggy blue tracksuit and t-shirt, and my mood are identical to what they have been for the past month. I chuckle a little bit as the thought of what people would think of me if they saw me crosses my mind. As I glanced up at the rolling white clouds blocking out the sun, leaving the neighbours doused in dull light and flicker shadows. Like usual the dream of sun soaked days and enjoyable bike rides, floated in front of me like a mirage before fading away into the darkness. A few minutes later, I arrived at work, gently slowing down to a stop. A bump on the road  sent me spiralling to the floor. Getting up quickly, I hoped that no one saw a thing. I finished the end of my journey by walking to the back. Fumbling around with the bike lock, b

Chapter Two

As the thought reeled through my head, I slumped down to the ground, just looking around as my mind carried on going past overdrive and into what only could be described as insanity.  I didn’t say a thing for a few reasons: one, I was in shock. I mean, I'm meant to be at work, and magic, or whatever this is, should not be happening. This kind of stuff was reserved for web novels and films. The other reason is that I was the only person around. I couldn’t see another soul that was in this white space with me. Finally raising up some courage, I yelled out hoping to prove myself wrong and that I would hear someone's voice breaking through this white world. “Hello!”....I felt like I could hear my voice echoing in the distance, but everything soon returned to the eerie silence that I had only jus

Chapter Three

With the collar being clamped onto my neck I lost the will power to move my body completely. I just layed there. I could faintly feel a tugging on my arms, like someone was trying to pick me up.  I didn't even bother to look up. After all, what is the point? I had a metal collar around my neck. I am nothing more than...well I don’t even know what I am. A prisoner? A slave? Some kind of refugee? But then I don't even know where I am.  While I was stuck in my head. I had been picked up, to my feet and held by the two who caught me. I assumed they were guards of some sort or they could be soldiers. What they were wearing looked very uniform.  Each had some kind of white linen on or at least it looked this way as I could see pieces of white cloth poking out

Chapter Four

“Get up you stinking slaves!” A sharp pain in my gut accompanied by yelling woke me up from my dream. In the dream I was back home, and was just going out to a party with my friends. Thud! I landed on the floor as the soldier kicked me again.  “You slave!” He yelled while pointing at me. “Get moving or I will happily show you what it means to taste the whip! Now! Move!” I jumped to my feet and rushed past the other survivors to be the first outside. Stepping into the light, I stumbled before catching myself.

Chapter Five

We had been marching for what felt like hours now. Well it was not marching, well the soldiers were. The survivors were more just walking together as well all were just following the lead of the officers. I could just about make out there helmet plumes over the mass of heads.  Though it was weird though, I thought the officers would have horses, being officers and all. The soldiers around us, still had the leather armour, with the black helmets, bit they now alongside the sword that I had seen some have previously. They all were carrying spears as well. It is like everytime that I see them, there is something different about them.  Ignoring all of this though, my feet are really starting to hurt.  I glanced down at them for what felt like the millionth time in

Chapter Six

As we reached the woods, the now group of around three thousand survivors and me of course were all stopped. We then all slowly were spread out and divided into three groups of one thousand people. Then me and the rest of my group were told to advance into the woods first. I slowly began to walk forward, Lance was next to me. I kept looking around. My hands also couldn’t stop shaking.  ‘This is it. This has to be it. The bandits must be in this wood somewhere.’ As we walked through the woods, I began to gradually slow down. At this point I was near the back of the group. Behind us though, were a couple of hundred soldiers, each armed to the teeth.

Chapter Seven

“Craw..Craw!”  I sat up slowly, groaning loudly as I did. It felt like an age as I moved my hand to rub the dust out of my eyes.  “Uhhh. Fuck! I feel like I have eaten something bad.” My ears began to ring at the sound of my voice. “That is probably due to this wonderful thing called a healing potion...all was it healing slave….I don’t know, but it did fix up your internals rather well. You have been through a nasty mess haven't you?” The new voice took my surprise. I hadn’t even noticed anyone there.  As I looked around, trying to find the origin of the voice. I saw what was left of the

Chapter Eight

As we marched on, I looked around. Feeling much more lonely without having Lance around. His smile and laughter always seemed to make everything feel fine, like we weren’t slaves at all. He is gone though. Now all I feel is dread for what is to come. This was only the first out of ten battles and that was even if the words that the commander said could be trusted. I mean probably lied, just trying to give us some false hope to fight for. I mean who would let their slaves go and be free after making them experience all of this...unless they don't expect us to survive that long? The feeling of dread began to increase as I began to think and worry about what my future might hold...as I was thinking that same word came into my mind again, almost like a magic spell. Survive. It calmed me down, at least calmed me enough.

Chapter Nine

After a quick meal of the never changing stale bread. We all set off. I had made sure that I still had my knife on me. It would be my biggest mistake if I were to leave it behind. Who knows if I would be able to get an arrow to use as a weapon again. As we marched, it was quiet except for the heavy breathing and footsteps of everyone. Looking around, not a smile could be seen, most people had tears running down their faces. I heard a bit more about our previous battle earlier though from some people. The first wave which I was part of was the worst hit. Apparently around seven hundred of us have been killed i'm the initial assault. The rest was made up of the second of, they though encountered many more elite fighters inside of the camp, taking as much damage from the archers we had. The third wave didn't lose a soul though as by the time they had arrived the battle was all but over, making t

Chapter Ten

As I reached the fork again, I went right going down the only path that I had yet to take. I couldn’t hear any fighting down this path though at least not anymore. Sometimes I would come across some bodies, but I could not tell who is who. The bandits and us the slaves all were wearing the same style of armour. This would make it incredibly difficult to tell apart each other when I reach the fighting. Ting! I heard the faint sound of clashing metal, and could smell some blood. It made my stomach churn as I almost felt like I was back at the bandit camp, seeing Lance get riddled by the arrows. A tear began to fall down my face as I hit myself with my spare hand. Shake out of it! You can not be thinking of him for now, you have to focus. I must survive for him.
