Chapter 1

The leaves rustling intermingled with the bustle of my friends. The chilly wind caressed my frozen cheeks. My feet were as heavy as lead, but my body was as light as a feather. Taking in the surreal sensory experience, every vivid sensation reminded me painfully of the fact that I was still alive. While immersing myself in the pain, a familiar voice called out to me. "Aria! Move your ass and help us with the tents!"I reluctantly opened my eyes and turned to look at where Nathan's voice came from.Across the camping grounds, Nathan's figure was huddled together with Kaitlin and Alex. All 3 were hunched over the tents with busy hands.Slowly shuffling my way over, I observed the camping grounds. Together with my clubmates, we had rented this space for our last bonding trip as graduating members of the Outdoor Adventure Club. A designated area for pitching tents, a barbeque and campfire pit in the center, bathroom facilities by the entrance, and a large open space separated from the fore

Chapter 2

I ignored the burning gaze on my back and carried on walking. However, the further I got the stronger the feeling to turn around festered in my chest. It was a subtle thought, that I would regret if I didn't take a look. Rarely experiencing such intense and profound feelings, I decided to humour myself.I held my breath and turned around as quick as a startled rabbit, almost toppling over from the momentum. But only the trees beyond the fence surrounding the camping ground greeted me.It was nothing but a whim and I wasn't expecting anything. Yet I still couldn't help but feel a tad disappointed. Before I could continue musing on it, Nathan called out to me."Aria, you fool. You could've fallen."Nathan reached out to help me stand steady as he asked, "What're you looking at?"I glanced at Nathan's squinted eyes scanning the forest, and a strong urge to keep Nathan away burst in my stomach.Without thinking, I lied. "I thought I heard something."Nathan turned his probing gaze on me as

Chapter 3

Time silently slipped by with each soft breath from Aria. The wriggling shadows that played on her tent grew darker, and soon became dark enough that it could suck someone in if they stared for too long.Without anyone's notice, it trickled down the tent and flowed like a small stream towards Aria. Just before touching the edge of her sleeping bag, it stopped and formed a tiny pool surrounding it like a moat.Desipte it's ominous appearance, Aria's wirnkled brows smoothened out with a slight arc at the corner of her lips.-----As the night approached its' darkest giving the moon it's chance to shine its' brightest, Arias' eyelids fluttered open gently. She slowly sat up, staring dazedly into space. While everyone else was sound asleep, Aria left her tent and shuffled sluggishly to the open area by their campsite that was a fence away from the forest.Stars dotted in the obsidian night sky surrounding the full moon reflected in Aria's hazel eyes. It looked like sparkling jewels embedde

Her knees buckled and gave way, once again diving face-first into the soft grass from the inertia. But this time, she didn't get back up. Instead, Aria lay sprawled out, as an endless stream of tears flowed and formed a small puddle where it fell. The dread. The emptiness. The loneliness. Like a black hole in her heart, the suffocation continuously stifled her and continuously magnified, consuming Arias' entire being. The despair, of having the hope she had held on to tightly and fiercely chased ground to dust mercilessly, pushed Aria back into the all too familiar abyss.Aria couldn't understand. If Amon wasn't intending to let her see him, then why giv

Chapter 7

A deafening silence enveloped the two figures hidden in the cocoon weaved from the shadows.Amon stuck stubbornly to his spot and remained silent, as if his call for Aria was just a figment of her imagination.Amon had imagined a myriad of scenarios of their reunion. A touching scene where he'll bring her the biggest bouquet of red roses, adorned with white pearls. Maybe Aria will cry, or she'll jump giddily into his arms. However, this was not it. Aria was crying miserably, all because he had left her side without a word.Remorse washed over Amon, and he silently scolded himself."What a fool I was. I'd forgotten that time flows differently for humans. How long have I been missing for her to cry in such sorrow.But... For however much Aria is suffering, she didn't give up on looking for me."Amidst the bitterness, a pinch of sweetness trickled in.Yet, he felt equally distressed at the pain he had put her through. All of Aria's pain, suffering, and tears could've been avoided if Amon

Chapter 8

An inch before he made contact, Amon startled awake and tightly clenched his fist before withdrawing in regret.'Not yet.' Amon thought bitterly, not until he had attained an imitation of a humans' body. However, as long as he didn't touch Aria it was still safe. He softly traced her outline, yearning overflowing from his eyes.Amon's scratchy voice deepened, and it sounded like the voice of a demon whetting one's curiousity to step into the neverending darkness."Aria, it was never your fault. You have done nothing wrong. It was all mine, and for that I am sorry. You bore the brunt of my carelessness. You do not have to forgive me. But I hope, that you can stop blaming yourself for mistakes that aren't yours to bear. You can even hate and reject me if it'll make you feel better. I will respect your wishes, whatever it may be."Amon gently kissed the air just above Aria's forehead. It would undoubtedly hurt to be hated by Aria, but it hurts Amon even more to know that she had been blam

Chapter 9

Aria attempted to hide her loose tear ducts behind her hands. She was mortified to have all of her insecurities and ugliest side exposed to the person she least wanted to know. Her behaviour then was no different from a madman, lashing out at anyone. However, Amon took no offense. Though Aria's rant stunned him silly, it also made it more evident just how deep Aria was stuck in her mire of self-hatred. It prevented Aria from forgiving herself and obstructed her from embracing his love and devotion. But there was a flaw in her rant, Amon could have chosen to leave if he so wished.Aria had lost her memories, so she wouldn't have known. But there was never a rule that they were bound to their fated pair. That would just be cruel if the partner was abusive, leaving the victim with no means of self-preservation.Amon chose to stay despite the pain because he understood Aria's circumstances and held no blame.Aria lost her memories. Stranded in a place where no one can ever truly understand

Chapter 10

Arias' head snapped up, and bewilderment coloured her face. Not once did it cross her mind that Amon would hold just as much possessiveness over her as she did for him.The reassurance of not being the only one comforted her. She wouldn't have to hold back anymore, and the unreasonable requests stuck in her throat now unclogged. With a trembling voice Aria whispered, "no."Though Aria couldn't see through the darkness, she could feel that Amon was overjoyed and relieved at her answer. An airy chuckle scratched at Aria's ears."That's how I feel too. You're not scary or ugly, and you're definitely not a monster.Even if you were a monster, I will gladly become one too. Whatever you want to be I'll support you, and always love you. As long as you're Aria, I'll forever be here to stay. There'll never be a time when I'll not want or love you."Aria felt her body burn up from Amon's searing love, and her eyes glistened as fresh tears fell drop by drop scaring Amon. Though Amon tried to catc
