Chapter 21.

He had glistening blue eyes. They were really a sight to behold. ”The name’s Elena,” I said with a smile. ”Charles! What’s your input on the DC project?” Mr. Abarnathe asked him. His eyes however were still on me. He didn't move his head or pay any attention to his father. I felt myself shivering under his gaze. As if he was asorting dominance over me. I automatically leaned towards Ashton without thinking about it. When I felt his arm I jumped in shock and looked up at him. I can't rely on him for protection anymore.

Chapter 22.

We had all gathered around the conference room table once again. Charles was next to his father and Pazzi was next to me. The tension was so thick you could cut through it with a knife. Everyone was uncomfortable and I couldn't wait for this fucking meeting to be over. I needed to speak with Ashton and it was urgent. Nobody was talking, everyone was silent as the only noise came from the clock on the wall. Edging me into madness with every ’tick’ it made. ”I believe this meeting is over,” I said, unable to take the awareness nor the gun-pointed dickheads that were sitting both in front of me and next to me. I needed answers. I may not deserve them but If I want to have any chance of being happy, I need to know why he told me he left the Ma

Chapter 23.

”Hi, where’s Mr. Carlson?” I asked one of the IT guys by the coffee machine.”No idea, he hasn’t been in the office for three days,” He said and I nodded my head. I hadn’t been here for two days either, I called in sick. When I got here I noticed how calm everyone was, Jasmine was moping by her desk and the other girls were doing their job without talking much. It was all very weird. Apparently, Ashton hadn't been here for the past few days and neither had Pazzi.  I walked to my office and got ready to work. But as I sat there, I couldn't think of what to do. As if I had forgotten all my assignments, papers, jobs, and even how to start the computer.

Chapter 24.

”Pazzi you don't understand,” I said in a gasp.”Then help me to understand!” He yelled as he paced around the apartment.”I can’t!” I shouted from where I stood. Pazzi turned around and took quick steps towards me. ”You were nearly killed today, Elena! Whatever the fuck it is, you can tell me!” He shouted. His warm breath hitting my face with every word. I stared at him befuddled.”How much do you know Pazzi?” I asked him in merely a whisper.”Everything,” I drew in a deep breath before nodding my head.  I grabbed his hands in mine and locked his eyes with mine.

Chapter 25.

I walked over to the window in the kitchen and looked out, only to see a black car standing there with its headlights on. Ashton was leaning against the car and so was another man but I couldn't make out who it was. I looked back at Thomas who was standing by the sink. His eyes held panic and mine must’ve held a helpless ’we’re screwed’ look. ”You should probably,” Thomas started off. I nodded my head and opened the door to meet the devil. ”What do you want, Ash?” ”Watch the attitude, Elena,” He countered. The closer I got the more I could make out the other man. It was Pazzi. ”Get in the car,” Ashton said. I looked at him in sh

Chapter 26.

”Leave.” I said plainly as I stared into the eyes of the man I least wanted to speak to. ”We need to talk,” he said.”I said leave, there is nothing you can say that I would be interested in hearing. And I have nothing to say to you,” I saw the pain in his eyes but I couldn't let myself be fooled. I said it once before and I’ll say it again. I have no interest in being played with by more than one person. ”Elena please,””I SAID LEAVE!” ”Please just hear me out!” He begged as he stepped closer. I got up from the bed and walked further away from him. Pazzi sighed and took a seat on the foot of the bed where I had previously sat.

Chapter 27.

I was looking at Ashton and he at me. Our eyes were locked to one another. All sounds were closed out and I barely remembered that Pazzi was present. I controlled my breathing and stayed calm. I couldn't let him know that I lied. Ashtons gaze intensified as he took a few steps towards me. He was standing inches away and he was searching my eyes for answers. ”You’re lying.” He said. My breath got stuck in my throat and I gulped hard. ”I’m not lying Ashton.” I said and lifted my head. ”Promise me. Promise me that you didn't know.” He whispered.

Chapter 28.

My heart was speeding and my palms were sweaty as I power walked on the gravel, away from the mansion. I made it to the gate and went around it, taking the back-way so to not be seen. I pulled my sweater around me tightly, protecting my skin from the chilly breeze.  When I made it far enough so that I could breathe, I turned around and looked at the house I had just escaped from. It was huge, a mansion that showcased power and wealth. Every window was lit up with lamps and the stone staircase leading up to the door was massive. I recognized the house from somewhere but couldn't put my finger on exactly where I had seen it.  I made it to the main road and walked alongside it for as long as I could. I didn't know where I was ,let alone the

Chapter 29.

I don’t know for how long I had been sitting on the damp grass. My body was freezing, my fingers were stale and I could barely feel my feet. But I refused to move.  I almost forgot them, I nearly forgot the anniversary of their death and for that, I could never forgive myself. I would sit here until I felt satisfied and until I know that they have felt my presence. I was letting the tears run down, freezing as they fell leaving patches on my skin along the way. When suddenly I heard a car roll up, I looked towards the gates and saw how a black SUV turned its lights off and someone stepped out. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised about others being here so late at night.  I turned my attention back on my parents lying in front of me and didn't notice how some

Chapter 30.

Work hadn't been anything different today than what it usually was. It was the same paperwork, meeting schedules, coffee runs, and phone calls as always. Yet somehow everything felt as if it had changed. The office, the building, the people, the walls and even the air felt different. It felt suffocating like I couldn't breathe properly. I looked at the clock and saw that the day was almost over. Relief washed over me at the thought of leaving this place and getting some fresh air. Until I remebered how I was supposed to meet Ashton down in the garage at most fifteen minutes after my shift, and the relief was gone. Pazzi would be standing by the elevator to make sure I did as I was told. I groaned in frustration as I closed the computer.I threw my bag over my shoulder and was about to head out when Anna
