Chapter Sixty One

‘All is well that ends well.’ Everything seemed to be steering in the direction of William Shakespeare's saying. After she had disentangled herself from Sam’s embrace earlier, teasing him, knowing fully well that he was beginning to get heated up, she slowly backed away, wearing a smirk on her face. Before she left his office, she whispered something into his ear which caused a wolfish grin to appear on his face. They were the only ones left in the agency but she went ahead first to get some preparations done. Now, she was on her way home, expecting him to join her in the next hour or so. He hadn’t had a taste of her improved cooking and he certainly wouldn’t. At least, not today. So she was going to order in for the night. All through the ride home, she imagined how the night would unfold. It wasn’t a hundred percent happiness though, as she still felt the burden of not letting him know about Simon. But she was going to take this ninety five and hold on to it. Plus, if all does

Chapter Sixty Two

She had whispered to him that she would relieve him of that suffering if he came by her apartment later that night. Hence the wolfish grin. But he had a few things that he had to round off before calling it day, so he told her to go ahead, promising to meet her at her place. She had barely been gone for ten minutes, yet he was missing her presence, as he had all the days before. The real torture was having to stay away from her: seeing her each day, walk past him without that smile she always had on whenever they met, knowing he couldn’t hold her like he wanted to because well, he had to pull this off. And today, they had finally settled their scores. Margaret’s advice worked out well after all. He didn’t imagine that it would be that hard to look at her and look away but thankfully his resolve didn’t break. Sam smiled to himself as he poured a reasonable amount of coffee into his cup. The irony of that is that it was his third cup of caffeine

Chapter Sixty Three

Nothing else mattered at that moment. Not the way she could feel all the energy draining away from her, not the on lookers who suspected she might have a problem with her sanity, and certainly not the fact that she ran out of the cab immediately it slowed down because of the traffic. She had ran out without paying for the ride. The cab man kept screaming at her to get back there with his money but that didn't matter as well. All that mattered was the picture in her head — an image of Simon Tunes and Sam, alone in Havens Cloud. As well as the thousand and one possibilities of what could go wrong, that creped in her head. The tears were dropping freely from her eyes as she ran. she had discarded her heels at a place she could barely recall. It didn't matter that her feet hurt, she continued to run. She couldn't lose him. Especially when she might have been able to avoid all of this in the first place. She blamed herself for everything that was happening now. And she

Chapter Sixty Four

"Code 10–45. We need an ambulance. Thirty five, Simpson Street, Block six. Code 10–45. I repeat, we need an ambulance. A man is down with two bullets to his chest."It was all happening in slow motion. It had all happened in slow motion. His fingers pulling the trigger. The bullets traveling into his chest, the scampering from Sam to get in front of her, her deafening screams, the sound of the gun dropping to the ground, and the fulfilled laugh that followed afterwards.Tinnitus. The buzzing noise in one or both ears. That was it. It was tinnitus — the ringing noise in her ears which blocked out the other sounds. It was the third time it's happened to her. Her ears were ringing. All the tears in her eyes had dried up, her jaw had dropped to the floor and so had her shoulders. She was numb. She suddenly felt numb. The touch lights flashed on her face which had gone pale white like all the blood had dried up. She was as cold as a corpse. She was as still as a log. She was overco

Chapter Sixty Five

You know the feeling of apprehensiveness which washes over you the moment you see that mail from the college of your dream which you had sent out an application to? Or the heebie-jeebies that fills you in when the letter in regards to the job application you sent out weeks ago comes in through the postman? The consternation to go up in front on an entire crowd of what? Twenty thousand, to wield a microphone and deliver a speech that must be nothing short of absolute perfectness? The anxiety, the unease, the angst of that something you know would either make you or mat you?Yeah, that feeling. All of that was nothing close to the hundred and one emotions that were overwhelming Theresa at present. It was simply put, unexplainable. The nervousness that had consumed her was second to none. She could feel it eating through her skin and into her insides, slowly and slowly dissipating it, to the point she began to wonder why the hell she hadn't already collapsed from it. At Hav

Chapter Sixty Six

She left the doctor's office feeling even more dejected than she was when she went in. Sadly, it wasn't the news she had been expecting. Actually what she had expected was either a yes — to a successful surgery operation — or heaven's forbid it, a negative answer. Now, she had to wait around for that answer. After two long hours if trepidation, she might be waiting for what might be days. Her expression was sullen. Just as Theresa, the tears in her eyes had dried up. How to feel going about the days knowing that the news with Sam might eventually come out negative was a huge puzzle to her. One she had no clue on how to solve. Suddenly, all the positivity she might have been feeling before now disappeared. It was supposed to be hope and she was supposed to bank on the that fifty percent chance of survival but she couldn't help but think about the other fifty percent and how the hell she was going to deal with it if it ever happened. It had been a similar situation with Rober

Chapter Sixty Seven

It was the buzzing sound of her phone that woke her up that morning. She had slept off on the couch last night. She rubbed her eyes with the back of her palm and reached for the back she had thrown to the sofa yesterday, digging dip into her bag for her phone. She found it and turned the damn thing off, it was her alarm that she had set to remind her to actually wake up on a Saturday morning. It was usually set for ten thirty during the weekends. When she remembered that she would be expecting a call from Margaret, she immediately turned the phone back on. She hadn't gone through it since last night so she seized to opportunity to do so. Who knows? Margaret might have given her a call. As expected there were a lot of her calls from most of her colleagues at work. As well as an equal amount of text messages, asking about what had happened and if she was okay. She glanced through some but didn't reply them as she was in state of mind to come up with a reply other than, 'I'm fine.' And

Chapter Sixty Eight

Great! Just great! After the while she had waited to see Sam, it had to be made impossible by these cops and their dumb intuitions. How on Earth does Maxwell Hart thinks she is working with Simon Tunes willingly to see he evades the police? It sounded so irrational and she was surprised it didn't as much, to him."You really do take the joy out of my life, you know?" Theresa grumbled as she made her way to the police car parked in the hospital parking lot. She looked at her in a frown. "That's not a compliment.""Of course it's not!" Vera opened the doors and Theresa hopped into the car which scented like burgers and fries. Not hard to perceive seeing the couple of burgers packs and half filled milkshake. The detective wind down the vent glass. "I apologise for the mess. I've got to keep my mouth busy during patrols.""Wow. You do patrols now?"Vera passed her a stifled smile. "Not for long."  Theresa rolled her eyes to this. She turned on the igni
