Chapter one hundred and thirty one

Alone now in the woods, it looked ominous and eerily quiet. Even the sound of the horse's foot was silent. All that could be heard was the susurration of the leafs in the gusty winds. The old yellow and brown leafs hustled in the the wind, as the sound of dead, weak trees, creaked at every push the wind gave. The horse neighed as if complaining why we weren't there yet. And he was right. The funniest thing was that, I didn't even know where I was heading to. I halted the horse to a stop, then went under a huge tree with my guide-the magical book, to lead the way. After sitting down on the heaves of leaves that pilled up on the floor, I took out my dagger to feed the book of its food. Blood."Nothing?" I found myself muttered when I saw that the book showed nothing on the page. It just remained blank. At first when I brought out the dagger to cut myself on purpose, it hurt a lot. The process of putting a blade straight through your skin, was definitely a pai

Chapter one hundred and thirty two

"Very well then. You will get to reflect on your choices well enough in the future."The tone in her voice alerted nothing but one sense. Danger. I had endangered the lives of others because of my foolish pride. I could have walked away politely, and save others. Tara. But leaving the devil to reign did not fully assure me that my family and friends would be saved."This is your last chance Kerik." She added, then paused. Waiting for me to fully accept to the proposal. My mind raced over a million things. What if I choose this option, and defeating the devil seems more impossible than I'd expect. Then I would never forgive myself. If only I could get more time, more days to puzzle over the prodigious decision. But even if I was opportune to that kind of indulgence, I feared my answer would still remain constant."Yes. That's what I choose. This is what feels best to me, so I've made up my mind." Her head lowered into a slow s

Chapter one hundred and thirty three

Live had been what we call a living hell for all of us at Talot, like walking straight towards the gates of the underworld. More of the villagers had turned into the septics, making the rest of us that were saved and not turned really few, as if a tiny drop in an ocean. We'd had to protect the inner walls from corrupting with the outsiders. At one point I accepted others from other kingdom to dwell in with us, for protection and provision of shelter and food. I'd done that with a pure heart without any hint of doubt or regret. Now, with the rate of which other corrupted people had filled Talot, it was slowly starting to become close to unbearable. Scarcity of food had hit us harder than a solid rock. The only source of meat we had left after the keepers took all from us, was just the people from Tobin's place. Ever since they'd dared cross their boundary with me, and lost Tobin to me, they'd done nothing but made the kingdom a pain in the ass. They said I will not bow to them. Haha!

Chapter one hundred and fourty four

The next morning the city was bubbling with more joy than it usually was on the day of the most favorite festival day at Beladonia. It was as if this special and unique celebration raised the ambient soul of the community to a broad shared smile. Mine included. It was a levitation we shared, as it raised us all up to a higher plane of emotional health, the jubilation weaves the crowd together as the most magnificent of cloths. Two middle aged blonds smiled and walked past me only before they quickly managed to bowed slightly, chorusing a loud and clear; "Good morning!" I only returned a warm kind smile as I tried to hide the screaming and screeching that roared inside of my head. It was truly a good morning indeed! A better morning if I may say. Although it wasn't as magical as one would say, since we'd only just found the cure the night before, and to add, tons of septic were still seen moping around. But on the brighter side, the cure has been found. After all this long while.

Chapter one hundred and forty five

Getting there, a young man covered in full pile of blood was laying helplessly on the ground. His eyes.. Oh his eyes were already so pale that I was starting to doubt whether there was any black left in them. It became so hard to even notice where the wound was from. I couldn't really tell much, but from the looks of it, it looked like he was butchered on purpose. He had been completely rough handled. Poor man. What feared me most was that his soul was already half gone from his body as his body was close to being empty at the moment. It was so scary, yet sad and devastating. I couldn't protect him. All of the happiness inside of me, crumbled away and dissolved into the air like dust. There was a silence to my soul; like I was fall leaves under frost. I felt the chill in my blood, coldness bringing the synapses of my brain to a stand still. Part of it was a pain, yet one I felt I could endure, one I could sleep through night after night without the need of false hope.

"Kerik! Kerik!"I could hear a voice faintly crying out. That was strange. My name was being called."Kerik!" The voice became a little louder. It was just a dream. Nothing was"Here, follow me." The woman who was supposed to be my mother, lead us to a small room close to the kitchen. "We'll be safe in the pantry, my child." She smiled again, like she'd been doing since she appeared to us."Thank you ma'am." Bellamy quickly appreciated her rendered help, and looked at me for a reply too. "We thank you so much." He added after getting nothing but a blank expression on my face. "She's just been through a lot.""No worries. I'll leave you two to send off anything that might leave a trail on your hide out." Her lips curled into another smile, but was instantly replaced with a worried look. "I love you, so much." She whispered, then focused on Bellamy. "Please take care of her, and stay safe." Having said that, she t

"Kerik you're not expecting anyone, are you?" Tara finally asked, making use of her words and immediately walking straight to the door.  "I know I'm a lot of things, but I don't keep insane humans as friends."   Following Tara to the door I thought about who must have been desperately trying to break down our door.  Tara slowly reached for the door and opened it gently. Standing grumpily in front of us was a burly figured bald man. Glancing at him, I quickly observed an ornamented sewing of a black serpent on his chainmail amour. A knight you might say, but no ordinary one. He was a member of the keepers. The bald Knights. Even the women always were too. It was believed that they had to get all form of impurities so one can be pure and cleared from their sins. Like that made any of them less corrupt.  "Took you long enough!"he scolded, his cold
