Chapter 4

Just then, Lindsey picked up her phone and made a call.

Moments later, my phone vibrated again.

I moved back to the hallway, muffling the phone.

"Hello?"

"Troy? Quick - come to Room 502 at the Milda Hotel! I just saw someone drag your sister inside!"

"Oh no! They've spotted me! Hurry!"

Lindsey screamed in panic before hanging up.

When I tried calling back, her phone was off.

Listening to the automated message, I couldn't help but smile.

If I hadn't overheard their conversation earlier, I would've rushed over to save my "sister."

Now I just laughed bitterly.

I glanced at Room 502 one last time before leaving.

I drove back to River View and called my sister.

She came down quickly. Seeing her safe and sound, I felt relieved.

"Everything okay, Sis?" I asked carefully.

She looked puzzled. "Why wouldn't it be?"

I shook my head, motioned her into the car, and drove to our parents' house.

Mom and Dad were thrilled to see us, cooking up a feast.

We stayed until evening.
