I didn't want to argue with Sally, so I snatched the sweater back from her.

However, she stumbled to the floor before wailing, "I was just asking a question out of curiosity, Claudia! Why did you push me so hard…"

I opened my mouth to deny her accusation, but Tristan marched up to me and slapped me in the face.

"What the hell is wrong with you, Claudia? She just wants a sweater for her dog. Just give it to her! Your mom has plenty of time on her hands anyway. She can easily make a few more sweaters. Why must you be so stingy?"

Tristan had put a lot of strength into that slap. As I cupped my cheek, I could hear my ears ringing. I was even bleeding from the corner of my lips.

I reached out to pick up the sweater that had dropped onto the floor, but Tristan stepped on my hand and demanded aggressively, "Apologize at once, or I'll break your hand!"

Tristan's leather shoes were custom-made with incredibly tough heels. I gasped in pain as he pinned my hand under his foot.
