Chapter 4

I finally believed what Ava and Jessica had told me.

I was being haunted.

But why me?

Why was she so obsessed with the center position?

What would happen if I became center?

I stumbled back to the dorm, my thoughts a complete mess.

Halfway through the competition, the dorm had emptied out - some trainees eliminated, others moving in with their friends. I was the only one left.

Jessica had planned to move out too, but she was worried about me.

"Are you sure you'll be okay by yourself?"

I forced a smile, but it looked more like a grimace.

Jessica didn't say much more - that night, she moved her luggage back in.

"I already felt bad enough, and now you're taking center position for me. I'd be a real coward to abandon you now!"

I hugged her, finally feeling some of my anxiety ease.

Jessica asked me, "What are you going to do?"

I shook my head. "I don't know who she is or if she'll hurt me."
