Chapter 1013

Mark gazed at Matthew, who lay on the bed. There were now signs of some physical responses—frowning, fingers twitching—which indicated that he was starting to come out of the danger of being in a vegetative state.

Mark nodded in satisfaction. It seemed that his experiment was working on Matthew.

He took out a syringe and injected another dose into Matthew.

Meanwhile, Lucy and Gabriella waited anxiously in the waiting room. Early that morning, Mark had called to ask them to come in and sign some paperwork. Both Lucy and Gabriella were terrified that something bad had happened to Matthew, so they came to the hospital bracing themselves for the worst.

Lucy was crying uncontrollably, with tears streaming down her face. It had been so long since she had last seen Matthew, and if this turned out to be bad news, she could not imagine how she would go on without him.

Mark emerged from the ward, removing the sterile suit he had been wearing. His eyes lit up as he approached the two women.
