"Oh, no, I..." Jennifer couldn't bring herself to say she was at Maxwell's place. Instead, she made up an excuse. "I've already made plans with Laura. How about we reschedule for another day?"

There was a brief silence before Nathan said dejectedly, "Alright, take care."

Nathan ended the call with a pale face.

Natalie had been listening to the conversation and grew angry. "What's this? She's lying about being at her ex-husband's place. This was what I was worried about. You've been treating them well, and this is how she repays your kindness? Is she planning to get back with her ex before telling you?"

"Stop it!" Nathan interrupted and opened the car door. "Get out."

Natalie pointed at herself in surprise. "Get out? Are you out of your mind, Nathan? We should storm into that villa and ask why she lied!"
