Chapter 2
Emily Monroe
“What!”
Josh's eyes widened once he was done reading the divorce agreement, his gaze raising to meet my smirk.
“Fifty percent of my assets? Are you kidding me?” His voice came out dryly, fear creeping into his eyes.
“My client is considerate enough to demand just a split of your assets. Are you going to agree to settle it here, or we take it to court where you'll lose everything to her?” Xavier, who was sitting beside me spoke.
I wasn't wrong hiring Xavier as my lawyer after all.
“Are you doing this to extort money from me?” Josh looked tense as he spoke, his eyes searching mine.
“Emily…” Josh paused, dropping the divorce agreement back on the center table before he continued. “I understand that you don't have anything to fall back on since you've been depending on me the whole time, but do you really think doing this is necessary?”
I resented myself for not knowing the true color of the man I married all these years. Loving him blindly when he was nothing but a pathetic scum who never deserved my love. The fact that he didn't feel guilty about his action showed how disgusting he was.
“Why are you making a big deal out of this, Emily?” Erica, who was sitting beside him on the couch the whole time with his hand clung to him, spoke up stupidly.
“You have already caused my client a great damage, and you don't even feel remorseful about your action. If you keep up being like this, you might leave me with no option but to see you in court,” Xavier spoke again.
She rolled her eyes, turning her face away.
“I'm not going to sign this damn document, Emily. There is no way in hell that I'm going to allow you take everything that I've worked hard for,” he looked me straight in the eyes and spilled those words boldly. Everything he had, was gotten through my hard work. My support. Everything he had was literally mine, and he dare take credit for it? Right in front of me? What a scum!
“Josh… Why don't we settle this in court then?” My lips curled up in a smirk as I locked eyes with him.
He raised his eyebrows, fear creeping up his face.
“Alright, then. Court it is,” Xavier stood up, then picked up the paper, ready to shove it inside his briefcase when Josh suddenly snatched it from him.
“Wh…what are you doing? Are you going to sign the divorce agreement?” Erica freaked out, snatching her hand away from him, and I scoffed. How shameless of them.
“I will make another money, babe. If we go to court, I'm going to lose everything,” he whispered to Erica, but I heard him.
Josh picked up the pen and signed the divorce agreement.
I fought back the tears that was burning my eyes. For the years of my life that I had wasted with this man, it really hurt.
Never in a million years did I ever imagine my marriage with Josh would end this way. I had always dreamt of a happy ending, thinking what we shared was love, but sadly, I have only been making things up in my head alone.
Josh never loved me.
Josh and I met three years ago at one of my father's plantations in the countryside where I had gone that faithful day to oversee the workers there.
He was one of the workers. He caught my attention, and even after years, I couldn't forget how he stood out well to me amongst the many workers there.
‘It must be hard working here. You should get some rest. You can't be standing all day'
Those were the first words he said to me as he offered me a bottle of chilled water under the scorching sun. It was this act of kindness that drew me to him.
I had to keep my identity hidden just so I could make him comfortable with me.
We dated for one year before we got married two years ago even though my father was against our marriage.
'Are you sure about this, Emily? What if something goes wrong in the future?’
It was almost two years already, but even now, those words from my father still replayed in my head. I remembered begging him desperately to help Josh as though my life depended on it. I had begged my father to make him a worthy man to meet the standard of the son-in-law that he wanted.
His first contract? It was through me. Everything he owned was through me. I made everything possible for him.
He was treating me well at first, and I was going to brag to my father that I didn't make a mistake helping his business.
Not until he changed completely from being the once loving man to someone else. A side of him I never knew existed.
I gave up my family, my big dream of becoming an artist, and abandoned my princess life for a man who never deserved it.
I should've listened to my father.
I left his house with Xavier once everything was settled.
“Sell off everything and donate the money to charity,” I didn't spare Xavier a glance as we strode to the parking lot where his car was parked.
“Huh? Everything is going to amount to three hundred million, Emily. Are you sure I should send—”
“I don't need his money, Xavier. Donate everything to charity,” I cut him off while staring outside the window, not sparing him a glance.
“Hmm. I'll do that,”
We both got inside the car, and Xavier drove off, heading to the hotel where I had lodged for a couple of days now after I moved out of the house.
'Dad, I'm done with everything now'
I texted my dad.
My phone screen lit up with a text almost immediately. It was a reply from my father.
'Alright, darling. I'm sending the family's private jet to come get you first thing tomorrow morning'
My lips curled up in a smile as I read the text. I was finally going to see my father after two years of being away from him.
The last time I saw him was before I got married to Josh.
A tear slid down my cheek as I stared out through the window while resting on the car seat.
I did everything for Josh and the only thing I got in return was betrayal? That bastard! He's going to pay for ever taking my love for granted. I'm going to make sure h
e loses everything and go back to the pit of hell where he really deserves to be…
Chapter 3 A few days later Emily Monroe “Alright… There you go,” I finally opened my eyes when I heard the stylist's voice, and the first thing I saw was my reflection in the mirror, staring right back at me, looking as beautiful as ever. My eyes glistened with tears as I slowly clenched my jaw tightly. Josh had drained me so much that I didn't realise I was still this beautiful. I barely had peace in my ex-husband's house, how could I have the zeal to look beautiful? Even when I tried to, he would always make sure he bruised my ego so badly. A knock came on the door, followed by my dad's voice, and I quickly put on a smile. I rose to my feet and went to get the door, revealing my ever handsome and young dad. He was in his late fifties, but he still looked very young as though he was in his forties. His pair of brown eyes pierced into mine, a soft smile playing on his cute face. “Everyone is waiting. Are you ready?” He held out his hand to me, and I took it, givin

We had already arrived at the auction house. “Oh…” I mouthed, exhaling deeply. It has been four years since I last stepped my foot into this city, and I couldn't believe that I would be here today. Yes, I still had plans of coming back here, but I never imagined it'd be this soon. My phone pinged with a text just when I alighted from the car. It was a text from Stiles. 'I'm sorry I couldn't go with you, babe. I promise to meet you there as soon as I'm done here' We were supposed to attend the auction together, but just before we could leave the house, he got a call from work, and had to leave first. I had to call Xavier to fill in for him at the last minute. ‘It’s fine. Do your thing' I replied to his text before proceeding into the building with Xavier trailing behind me. Despite wasting three good years of my life
