Introduction

“I want to see a picture of you in stockings.”

I read the text that popped up on my phone screen with anticipation. Another followed.

“Yeah, follow my lead and slide your finger into your…”

I obeyed, sliding my finger beneath my waistband.

The man on the other side with the note "Dear" sent me another message. "Did you miss me?" After a while, I replied with just one simple word: “Yes."

I was happy when I received the five words below.

“I want to fuck you!”

***

*Months Earlier*

Rory's POV

“Feeling nervous?” Justin’s familiar voice whispered in my ear.

“Are you out of your mind?” My hushed voice was much harsher than his. “This is Needy’s place!”

“Who cares?” He reached for me, catching the hem of my shirt between his fingers.

I dodged his next move, narrowly escaping his wandering hands that were ready to slip under my clothes. Even at that moment, the sounds of the party downstairs pumped into the room. Footsteps echoed outside and my heart started pounding. Needy was throwing a party, and a good chunk of our class was packed into the house.

Justin, intent on teasing me further, reached between us and flipped up my skirt, sliding his hand further up my thigh. I caught him by the wrist and stopped him.

He sighed harshly. “I should’ve known you’d be this way.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” I crossed my arms.

“I mean,” he said, rolling his eyes, “that I should’ve known you’d be a prude and keep your legs closed.”

“A prude? Why? Because I don’t want to lose my virginity with an audience downstairs?”

He threw his head back and laughed. “You’re still waiting for the perfect moment? Well, newsflash, Rory, it’s never gonna happen. No one is ever going to roll out the red carpet for you and give you your dream night. It’s stupid and unrealistic. You’ve gotta get over this and move on. I mean, who goes to college as a virgin?”

“I do!” I snapped. “And you know exactly why I haven’t. It’s not my fault you haven’t put the effort into making it right for me.”

“It’s not like you’re gonna give it to me anyways. It’s too much work when I can get it from someone else way easier,” he jabbed, reaching for me again. “Come on, it won’t take that long.”

“It won’t even…? Why don’t you just go get it from someone else like you said?” I backed away from him, furious. My gut twisted as I asked my next question. “Or have you already?”

His face went hard and he snapped at me. “Who told you?”

“I knew it.”

The betrayal coiling in my gut made my blood run hot. I was furious. Even as I allowed my anger to rise, I felt a trickle of guilt cool it.

“It’s not what you think.” Justin managed to say. “If you had–”

I didn’t let him finish. “If I had stopped wasting my time with you, we wouldn’t be here.”

“What?” Confusion flooded his face.

“We’re done, Justin. I’m over it. I’m over you.” I stormed out of the door and the house.

I found myself at a club nearby, nursing a cold beer that wasn’t doing much to ease the sting of betrayal. It wasn’t as bad as I’d expected.

What was really sending me off was the betrayal. My mom had betrayed my dad the same way, and it ultimately ended in him taking his own life. I’d always been afraid of being betrayed in the same way… and here I was.

“I hate betrayal!” I muttered to myself.

He said, "Me too."

Then I turned around and saw the man–I could tell that he had an extraordinary temperament, and he was very handsome.

“Why are you imitating me?” I asked.

“No,” he said. “I think you're right.”

He seemed familiar, but I couldn't remember who he was. And he was sitting next to me, in this club, talking to me.

Meeting such a handsome man here made it hard to resist the temptation. The club's lighting was just right, the music was low and deep, and the whole atmosphere was captivating, yet dangerous. In a place like that, even if strangers got close to each other, there was no need to worry about being recognized.

“Your makeup is smudged.”

Reaching into the breast pocket of his suit, he pulled out a clean, white handkerchief.

“Thank you…” I wiped my face.

As one hand moved to tuck the handkerchief back into his pocket, the other lingered near me, with his gaze on my face. “You’re beautiful, even without makeup.”

I flushed with embarrassment, murmuring another thanks. As his hand fell away from my face and moved to rest near mine, I felt reality come crashing back in.

Justin’s betrayal made me feel sad. What were the odds that the handsome man would be hitting on me on the night, right after I found out that my boyfriend had cheated on me?

I was surprised and embarrassed at my own question. It must have been the alcohol.

My voice was bitter when I spoke again. “Is this how you treat all women?”

The man simply smirked again and finished the last of his drink.

He reached forward and brushed a bit of hair out of my face.

“If you’re curious about how I treat women, why not find out for yourself? I’ll be in room 402 at the hotel around the corner.”

My body heated as ideas flooded my mind at his suggestion. After everything I’d been through, I was hesitant.

“No,” I said. “I needed comfort tonight, but not that sort of comfort.”

“It’s entirely up to you, sweetheart.” He stood as he finished speaking. He said something to the bartender and gave her some money before turning back to me. “I won’t push you, but my offer stands.”

I watched as he headed out the door, feeling tempted.

I had never been interested in one-night stands. In high school, I was nerdy and never had a chance with any of the boys, except Justin. I remembered Justin teasing me for being so conservative. After that, I swore that I would just focus on my studies.

I eventually grew out of my ugly duckling phase once I started college, and lots of boys tried to get me to hook up with them, but I just wasn’t interested.

I really liked Justin, and couldn’t believe he’d cheated on me. It made me feel sad. I reached into my purse to pay the bill.

“Already paid.” The bartender smiled at me. “Hot stuff in the suit covered it.”

“Oh,” I said. “Thank you.”

I put away my wallet just as my phone buzzed. I looked at Justin’s text with contempt.

“Come on back,” it said. “I know you want me.”

I deleted it instantly. The words made me want to throw up. At this point, I was disgusted by him. What kind of a guy is that sick? He really thought I’d come back after he cheated on me?

My mind turned back to the handsome stranger. He looked so great, and something about him thrilled me in ways that made thoughts of Justin fade from my mind.

Why not take a leap of faith?

***

I knocked on the door, waiting a few seconds for it to open. He was a whole head and shoulders taller than me and I had to drag my eyes up to meet his, but I was quickly distracted when a grin flashed across those kissable lips.

“Please come in.” He took a step back, letting me into the expensive-looking hotel suite.

I slipped past him, already feeling my heart start to beat faster. I’d been so drawn to him at the bar. He was the definition of tall, dark, and handsome.

I looked around the room to distract myself and was surprised to find myself in a living area with doors leading off to a bedroom and bathroom. I carefully lowered myself to sit on the couch, letting my skirt slide up my thighs.

I wasn’t planning on keeping it on for long.

“Changed your mind?”

His deep voice rumbled down to my core, and I felt heat flare through my body as he seated himself on the couch an arm’s length away from me.

It felt like he was too far away, but I wasn’t sure if I could breathe if he got any closer. His hand lifted and he smoothed the backs of his fingers over my shoulder and arm. Goosebumps rose in his wake and I felt my nipples bud.

Justin had never elicited such a reaction from me at all, let alone with such a soft touch.

“I’ve never done this before,” I whispered, nervously meeting his dark chocolate gaze. I was surprised to find blazing arousal there.

“One-night stands?” he asked, lifting his hand to my cheek and gently running his thumb across my bottom lip. A soft gasp slipped between my lips, and I saw his eyes fixate on them.

“No,” I breathed out, “Well, yes, but I’m a virgin.”

I thought I’d feel embarrassed at my admission, but the lust never left his features. His head tipped toward mine and our breath mingled. My entire body came to life as I anticipated the kiss that came right after his next words.

“I see.”

His lips closed over mine and I moaned into the kiss, closing the space in between us. As he deepened it, he pulled me into his lap. Small gasps and moans broke through the kiss as he took it deeper, letting his hands gently explore my curves. My hands moved to where they had been resting on his shoulders to the thick, dark hair curling at the nape of his neck.

Carrying me to the bed, he tore open my clothes, and I was already wet as he got on top of me.

“I’ll be gentle.”

I shivered in pleasure and looked over to where he’d propped himself up on an elbow next to me. The blankets had been pushed askew, and in the faint glow of the moonlight, I could see exactly why that hot, possessive gaze was what I once wanted the most.

My heart started to race.

***

A few hours later, I was forced awake by a headache.

Everything in the room felt incredibly unfamiliar as if it had all been just a dream.

In the moonlight, I looked at the man lying beside me—his tall, straight nose, deep-set eyes, and smooth facial contours. His face was flawless from every angle.

Had I really done what I did with him?

I reached out with my fingertip to gently touch the tip of his nose but instinctively pulled back. Why did this face seem increasingly familiar the more I looked at it?

I scratched my head; my mind was still hazy.

In any case, I had to leave. It was all just a slip-up; I had to get back to my normal life.

I grabbed my bra from the bedside table and put it on.

At that moment, I noticed the man's passport on the bedside table. I picked it up and examined it closely in the moonlight filtering through the curtains. When I noticed the name on the document and after a few seconds of looking at it, I jumped out of bed as if electrified.

Without saying a word, I quickly got dressed and rushed to the door.

Just then, the man called out to me. "Where are you going?"

"Goodbye!" Without looking back, I dashed out of the room.

Scott McFarland?

Fuck!

I couldn’t believe I’d slept with my friend’s dad!

When I approached the house, I noticed most of the cars that had been there were gone with just a few stragglers here and there. The front door was locked, but I wasn’t worried. Needy knew I had the back way into her house memorized.Letting myself in through the garage door, I slipped through the trashed house and up to Needy’s room. She was in there with several friends who’d been at the party, and it looked like they’d all fallen asleep wherever they could get comfortable in Needy’s huge room. I grabbed a pillow and blanket off the foot of Needy’s overstuffed bed and made myself comfortable on it with her like we usually did. I didn't want to face an awkward scene, but I had to.The students we sat with were all talking about him. A lot of them seemed to be really honored to have him as their professor. They were also talking about his many accomplishments and how talented he was. I started to tune them out and had just gone back to planning my escape when I realized they were also talking about Justin.I hadn’t even realized Justin was in the class. I hadn’t seen him yesterday. I really hoped I didn’t run into him. I let my gaze travel through the crowd. Sure enough, Justin was there with his latest flame, a girl named Lisa, sitting just a few rows over from me. Scott’s POVI sat in my corner office, gazing out the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking one of the best views in the city. I listened to the book distributor on the line, discussing printing and shipping costs. I enjoyed negotiation and this was no different, especially because it was something I cared about–giving back to my past school.“How does that work for you?” The voice on the other end of the line signaled that it was my turn.“I agree with the cost of shipping. That seems fair and reasonable. You’ll need to increase the total number of books though. I know you’re an honorable establishment that believes in the educational success of the next generation. I also understand that you value my investment in your company.” I smirked to myself, knowing what would come next.“I… you’re right, Mr. Hawthorne. I’m sure we can reach an agreement that pleases both parties.” The other man tripped over himself to please me. I was fairly used to people doing that if I was being hone

Rory’s POVIt was nice to relax after being so tense recently. When Needy had suggested the pool party I’d been nervous, but it was nice to sit back and enjoy the free time. Now, the party was raging around me as I laid back in a poolside lounge. The sun warmed my skin and I smiled into it, enjoying the sensation. I’d been so caught up in thoughts of Scott and avoiding him that I hadn’t been able to even take a full breath. Even now it was a struggle not to think of him. “Rory, come here!” Needy called from across the pool, interrupting my moment of peace.I sighed, cracking an eye open and looking in her direction. She was waving me over to the beer pong table. I considered whether I wanted to play beer pong or not. Needy had been trying her best to integrate me into the festivities, which I appreciated. I just wasn’t the partying type, so it wasn’t exactly my scene.“Rory!” she yelled in a sing-song voice. “It’s gonna be so fun!”I knew there wasn’t a way out of this. N

He didn't take the hint and caught up with me. “Listen, can we talk, please?” he asked. “There is nothing to talk about, Justin,” I said, stopping to glare at him. While lookalikes are common, I assure you I’m not Anthony’s daughter.”“I’m not,” Scott retorted.“What are you implying?” I asked.“I’m not implying anything.
