Chapter Twelve: Why the Alpha's Heart Raced?

"Melonie!" I heard Lovely calling me from behind.

I wiped away my tears quickly, not wanting her to see me cry, but not in time. She came before me, and I turned around, drying the remaining tears with my uniform sleeve.

Believing I was crying about what had happened in the living room, Lovely said, "Don't cry, Melonie."

"Cavia gave me a message to tell you that the alpha has rehired you."

"You've got your job back," Lovely said gleefully.

I pretended that losing my job was the cause of my tears, and not that the Alpha didn't force me to work here against my will. I turned around, nodding.

"Come, let's go; our supper is ready." Lovely took my hand, leading me straight from the garden to the employee lounge room.

When we got there, the sight of the table amazed me; it had many meals that were fit for its owner. Back at my uncle's home, he forbade the workers from consuming any of the meals prepared for him and his family. I was fortunate enough to scrape the bottom of the pots to get a
