Chapter Seventy

I got a call from Minna while we were seated, waiting for the event to start. I excused myself and went outside to take the call.

“Minna,” I called her name as I picked up the call.

“Something terrible has happened.” She said in between sobs.

“What happened?” I asked, fear clawing at my heart. I knew it had to do something with my mum but I didn’t want it to be what I was thinking.

She broke into tears. “It’s mum.” My heart sank at her words.

My stomach dropped. “What happened to mum?” I was scared to hear her answer.

“She passed away.” Her shaky voice was barely audible.

“What?” I knew it was going to happen eventually but I wasn’t expecting it to happen so soon. The last time I checked, she was getting better.

“She got rushed to the hospital this afternoon and the doctor said he tried his best to save her but couldn’t bring her back.” She cried.

I felt a wave of grief wash over me. “So why didn’t you call me when she was being rushed?”

“I don’t know.”
