Chapter Seventy One

I woke up early the next morning and turned to see Vito in a sitting position on the bed. He was awake before I slept off the previous night and I wasn’t sure he had gotten any sleep at all.

When I lost my dad, I couldn’t sleep for over a month. So, I understood how he felt. He looked devasted while making calls and inviting some people to the impromptu funeral.

“Did you get any sleep?” I asked him while I took the covers away from my body.

“What?” He rubbed his eyes and turned to me.

“I asked if you had any sleep?” My voice was louder this time.

“Oh, I didn’t.” He said, taking a deep breath and resting on the bed. “I couldn’t sleep.”

“I’m so sorry.” I cuddled him for a bit before getting up from the bed.

I went to check up on his sisters. They were up and one of them was in the shower. I felt bad for them and they hadn’t been dealing with their mother’s death well.
