The three of them walked toward an empty table led by Claire, and once again Bella asked, "Why did you reject him? Was he really that ugly back then?" She inquired, showing no concern for Claire's feelings.
Harry smiled, glancing at Claire sitting beside him, then shook his head. "She's beautiful. She's always been beautiful," he said sincerely. "I rejected her because I was embarrassed," he added, his face turning red.
"Embarrassed? Were you embarrassed, or were you actually scared because she's a scary girl?" Bella asked again, ignoring the nudge from Claire under the table.
"Scary?" Harry asked in confusion, furrowing his brow. "What's scary about her?" he queried, baffled. "Claire is a nice person. But I think she's too smart, and that made me insecure since she and Gladwin were always the best in class," he continued.
"But do you actually like her?" Bella pressed, receiving a nod from Harry. "What about now? Do you still like her?" Bella asked, making Harry glance at Claire shyly. "Well, if you both are still single, you should just date," Bella suggested casually. "You're still single, right?" she asked, incorrectly following up her previous question.
Harry chuckled. "Of course I still like her. If not, I wouldn't be here now," he replied.
"Are you sure you're still single? I'm afraid there's a pregnant woman waiting for you at home," Bella joked, which Harry denied with a shake of his head.
"There's no one waiting for me at home, but maybe I could bring someone to my place," Harry joked back.
"Claire, did you hear that? Instead of dating some guy you don't know, why not date him? That way, your mom won't have to keep asking who your boyfriend is," Bella teased.
Claire looked at her friend with narrowed eyes. But instead of quieting down, Bella laughed happily.
Their conversation shifted to various topics without a clear theme. They returned to the office as lunchtime came to an end. Just like when they left, they ran into Antony and the audit team leader again. The three of them politely greeted their two superiors before entering the elevator.
"So what's the verdict? Have you decided to date?" Bella suddenly asked Harry.
Harry furrowed his brow at the sudden return to the topic of his relationship with Claire. He glanced at Claire briefly, but she merely looked back at him with one hand raised, drawing a diagonal line on her forehead, indirectly indicating that Bella had lost her mind. Harry was about to laugh but held back as the elevator door opened again.
"Dinner together?" he asked before heading toward the meeting room, where his team was ready to continue working.
In the late afternoon, Claire suddenly felt a headache. Her body also ached for no reason. Even her stomach felt uncomfortable while she was sitting. She sensed something was off with her body but chose to ignore it, as she was still busy with the mountain of reports. Later, she would ask Gladwin to check her out and prescribe some medicine if necessary.
Meanwhile, the dinner plans that Harry had arranged were abruptly canceled when the audit team leader decided that they had to work overtime that night to finish the reports as soon as possible. This frustrated the admin staff.
After the sun set, they were all surprised by a delivery of food set up on a long table near the door. Catering meals packed in boxes, cold drinks in cups, and snacks in another box made Bella exclaim and quickly grab her share. At the same time, Claire stood frozen, looking at all the food. She wasn't interested in any of it; she just wanted to go home and lie down as soon as possible.
"Aren't you hungry?" Bella asked when she saw her friend continuing to work and ignoring her meal. Claire shook her head and even pushed her food box closer to Bella, allowing her friend to eat it if she wanted.
At ten o'clock at night, the team leader finally dismissed them. Claire wanted to cheer in delight but held herself back. Bella had been packing up since earlier because her work was finished, and so was Claire's. They remained in the office since the team leader instructed them to stay, fearing they might need something.
The limited capacity of the elevator forced them to line up. Claire didn't want to take the stairs because she already felt dizzy and tired. So she chose to be the last one to leave.
"Are you okay?" asked the cleaning staff on duty with a worried tone.
Bella, still in her position, turned and observed Claire carefully. Claire just smiled and nodded her head slowly. It felt as if her head were being hammered by dozens of tiny invisible nails at that moment. Even her body began to feel hot and cold at the same time. However, Claire chose to pretend she was fine.
"Your face is pale," the cleaning staff reiterated what was on her mind.
"Maybe it's just because I'm too tired," Claire replied soothingly. But Bella moved her chair closer and deliberately placed the back of her hand on Claire's forehead.
"You're warm. Are you sure you're okay?" Bella frowned with concern, and Claire continued to smile reassuringly. She reached for Bella's wrist and lowered her hand. "Your hand is just as warm," Bella exclaimed worriedly.
"I'm fine," Claire answered softly. She stood up, grabbed her bag, and began walking toward the now-empty elevator. Only Claire and Bella remained in the room, with the rest being cleaning staff busy with their work. However, in another room, Shelly, their CEO, and the audit team leader were still present, not yet having left for the day.
They had just stepped into the elevator when a voice startled them with its call. "Hold the door!" Claire and Bella turned around simultaneously to see Shelly hurrying toward them. "Please hold the door for a moment," the middle-aged woman commanded.
Instinctively, Claire pressed the open button in the elevator so that Shelly and the two people walking behind her could enter.
"Are you just leaving, too? We thought you had left a while ago," Shelly said, making small talk.
"We were waiting for the elevator to be empty," Bella replied on behalf of herself and Claire.
"Are you okay?" Shelly glanced at Claire as Antony and the audit team leader stepped into the elevator.
"She's not okay. She's sad because her dinner plans got canceled," Bella teased, causing Claire to roll her eyes at her friend's chatter.
"Dinner with who? A special someone?" Shelly asked, curious, and Bella responded with an enthusiastic nod. "Are you dating someone?" Shelly inquired again, and once more Bella nodded her head. "Who? Do I know him? Does he work here?"
"Technically, yes. But for the official news, I'll let you know later," Bella continued ambiguously.
Shelly nodded with a mischievous smile on her face. The elevator doors opened, and they waited for Antony and the audit team leader to walk out first, followed by Shelly, Bella, and lastly Claire.
"Do you want me to give you a ride home?" Bella offered, which Claire answered with a shake of her head. Her head was still throbbing, and shaking it caused her to lose focus. "Why not? It's already late, and you didn't drive."
Claire shook her head again. She didn't want to make Bella tired by having to drop her off at home and then head back to her own apartment in the opposite direction. "Unless you plan on staying at my place, I will decline your ride offer," she replied.
Bella squinted her eyes and then shook her head. "I'll only drive you home, but I can't stay over."
"That's okay. I can take a taxi home."
"Then I'll wait for your taxi to arrive." Bella insisted because she was worried about Claire's condition.
"Don't wait for me. I know you're tired. Go home first; I'll wait here with the security staff," Claire insisted. Bella glanced at the security post and then nodded in resignation.
"If anything happens, call me immediately," she ordered. Claire nodded, and Bella walked away toward where her car was parked.
Claire chose to sit in the waiting area. The security guard, who was reading a newspaper, smiled politely at her. When she opened her phone to order a taxi through an app, someone suddenly stood towering in front of her.
"Come on, I'll give you a ride home," he said. Claire looked up and frowned immediately. What the man had just said wasn't an invitation; it was a command that needed to be followed by a subordinate.
Claire was still frozen in place, staring at Antony in confusion. "Come on," he said again."No need, Sir. I'll order a ride," she declined politely. She couldn't be rude, especially since they were still on office grounds, and the security guard was watching."This is an order, Claire." It was clear Antony didn't want to be challenged. Claire glanced at the guard, who was openly watching her and Antony with a puzzled expression. Not wanting to be the center of attention any longer, Claire finally followed Antony. He opened the front passenger door for her. At first, Claire thought they would be driven by Antony's personal driver, but she was wrong, as the driver's seat was empty, even though the engine was still running.Antony walked around the front of the car and got behind the wheel. Without another word, he drove out of the gate."What do you want to eat?" he asked, his tone softer than before. Claire frowned. "I know you didn't touch the dinner that was prepared earlier," he sa
"I'm tired of answering that same question, Claire," he replied flatly. He stood up, took her shoes, and left the room, only to return shortly after."So?" he asked as she placed her phone back on the nightstand."Gladwin's on vacation with his friends," she replied irritably. "You don't need to worry, Sir. I'll be fine after some rest." She was trying to politely dismiss him, but Antony only smiled in response."I already told you, if Gladwin couldn't come, I'd call my family doctor. He's on his way here now," Antony said casually. Claire stared at him in disbelief."Can you stop making decisions for me?" she asked, clearly upset. "I'm the one who's not feeling well, so why are you the one telling me what to do?"Instead of getting angry or upset, Antony just shrugged. "So, you admit you're not feeling well?" he challenged. "Haven't you been saying all this time that you're fine?""Sir..." Claire started to interrupt, but Antony cut her off."Can you stop calling me that? I feel anci
Antony woke up without opening his eyes and felt soreness in his upper right arm. Instantly, he realized that he was not in his own bedroom.Startled, Antony opened his eyes and saw the side of the bed where Claire usually slept was empty."Claire?" he called out in a hoarse voice. Soon after, he saw Claire coming out of the bathroom with wet hair."Did you take a shower?" Antony asked, surprised. Claire touched her hair and nodded."Your body still isn't healthy. Has your fever gone down?" Antony approached to touch Claire's forehead, but she pulled her face back first, making Antony irritated, and he looked at her with a sharp gaze."The best remedy for a fever is a warm bath," the girl continued, now with a relaxed tone. Claire walked back into her room, but suddenly her body swayed. Fortunately, Antony was quick to catch her. He could feel that her body temperature hadn't actually gone down."A warm bath is good, but it doesn't have to be right now," Antony said, frustrated becaus
"Is there anyone around here who usually sells breakfast?" Antony asked again.Claire opened her eyes again, looking at Antony, who was gazing at her curiously. She couldn't help but chuckle."Why?" Antony asked, surprised."If they do, are you going to go there and buy some?" Claire challenged."That's why I'm asking," Antony replied flatly. He was puzzled, wondering what was funny about his question. But Antony's confusion was met with laughter. "How can a CEO buy breakfast for his subordinates? Isn't it supposed to be the other way around?" Claire mocked."What's wrong with a CEO buying breakfast? Is it forbidden? Or do you think I'm the type of CEO who can only use my finger?" Claire nodded at his question. Antony scoffed immediately. "You've been influenced too much by Korean dramas and romance novels," he teased back.Claire frowned. How could he come to such a conclusion? Antony pointed to one of the cabinets in Claire's room, filled with her favorite romance novels."Those are
Antony returned to the house and headed straight to the kitchen, looking for utensils before transferring the porridge he had bought into a bowl and placing it on a tray along with a glass of warm water that he had poured from the dispenser.Claire was still lying with her back to the door. The girl's body seemed to be shivering slightly, and her breaths appeared short and shallow. Antony set the tray on the nightstand and then touched the back of his hand to Claire's forehead.Hot. It seemed he would have to force her to go to the hospital this time."Claire, eat your breakfast first," Antony said, touching the girl's shoulder. Claire let out a soft groan but then turned to look at Antony. "I ordered your porridge just the way you like it," he said. Claire furrowed her brow. "I called Flavia, and she said to just say 'Aunty C's porridge,' and the vendor would understand," Antony explained plainly."You shouldn't have...""I didn't tell Flavia that you were sick and staying here, so d
Now Claire was mute. Did she actually hate Antony? She didn't know. Did she hate the man, or did she simply not respect him? There was a difference between the two words, wasn't there?"Have you forgotten the saying, 'You don't love what you don't know'?" Antony's question disrupted Claire's thoughts. She looked at him with a furrowed brow. "Whatever you've heard about me, I don't know how much of it is true.""But if you want to know about me from my perspective, don't hesitate to ask. I'll answer everything honestly," Antony replied firmly.Claire could only remain silent. She felt uneasy, embarrassed, and there was some other feeling she couldn't quite articulate."But in return, if I ask you something, you have to tell me the truth as well. Not something made up. Especially not something that will make me even more jealous," Antony added, his expression now annoyed."What do you mean?" Claire asked, confused."I don't mean anything by it," Antony answered ambiguously. "So, do you
Both Antony and Claire fell silent. Claire knew she had crossed a line. She shouldn't have asked such a personal question, especially since it might deeply hurt Antony's feelings, as he was forced to bring up a past he likely wanted to forget. She felt she had asked the wrong question. She was about to retract it when Antony spoke."Isn't it better to ask someone who knows me that kind of question?" he countered. Claire looked up at him, confused. "If you ask me directly, what if I turn the facts around?"Claire fell silent. "That could happen. But hearing it from someone else might not give you the real answer either. They could exaggerate or twist the facts just to make you look better. But it could also be the opposite. So it's better to ask the person directly who experienced the actual events," Claire replied logically. Antony smiled."You are indeed different," he murmured.Claire raised an eyebrow, puzzled. But Antony answered her unvoiced question with a smile."If I tell you
"It's too late for that," Claire shrugged. "But I won't push you," she finally replied. She didn't want to bring up Antony's past, especially if it would hurt him. Although she was indeed curious."Let's just say your marriage to Flavia's mother ended. And I conclude it didn't end well," Claire continued. Antony nodded. "But why did you choose to give Flavia up to your parents?"Antony smiled sadly again. "The end of our marriage shattered me completely at that time. My world, which I thought was perfect, seemed to collapse with just one divorce certificate.""Seeing Flavia felt like a reminder of the biggest mistake and failure of my life. I unjustly blamed that innocent little baby. The truth is, from the beginning, I was the one at fault. I was the one who didn't listen when my mother and aunts forbade me from marrying Flavia's mother."I was the one who forced myself to hold on to something that I never truly possessed from the start. Love made me blind, and I got swept away in it
The two teenagers turned their heads simultaneously towards the aisle as they saw an ominous aura spread around them. Moreover, people were now looking in the same direction. Where the woman Flavia and Abigail had not expected to see had just appeared."Why is that woman there?" Abigail whispered to her best friend.Flavia who had been engrossed in her digital camera and taking pictures was now holding it languidly. "I don't know." She replied innocently. She looked back at the photo produced by her hand, choosing to ignore Abigail and her suspicions."Shall we go closer to them?" Abigail asked in a challenged tone.Flavia raised her head again and looked at her best friend with a furrowed brow. As Abigail started to take a step, Flavia held her back by holding Abigail's arm tightly and shaking her head."No, Abby." She said.Instead, she pulled her best friend's hand to walk away from the reception room and left the hall by walking in the hotel's garden area to take some photos as a
"Full?" asked Claire with a furrowed brow.Antony deliberately re-emphasized his lower body so that Claire was wide-eyed. "You know what I mean, right?" Antony whispered in the girl's ear that inevitably made Claire shudder in horror. The man's lips teased her, starting to caress the side of her face so that she unconsciously looked up and gave him the opportunity to explore the slender recesses of her neck."Can I ask for my rights now?" he asked in a pleading tone.Claire shook her head."Why again now?" Antony asked in a whining tone."Your body stinks," Claire said as she wrinkled her nose. "Go take a shower." She ordered as she turned Antony around and pushed him into her room until he reached her bathroom.Antony wanted to resist, but seeing his wife's glare, he finally went in.What's wrong with his wife. Why is it so hard to conquer her? Instead of spending time kissing hot and wet, Claire pushed him into the shower. Antony had hoped they would move on to the next stage that h
"Those two women were the answer to my mother's prayers," she said, anger flaring in her voice.Antony was taken aback. "No, darling. Your mother's prayers will never be answered like that.""Alright, they did come with certain intentions. But can't you see me? To me, they are nobody. In my eyes, in my heart, in my mind, there is only Claire, Claire, and Claire. There's no other woman." Antony coaxed her in a soothing tone.Claire couldn't help but chuckle at that. "Don't sweet-talk me," she replied with a hint of amusement.Antony shook his head. He stepped closer to his wife. Claire still had her arms crossed over her chest, and to maintain some distance from him, she leaned her body back."I'm not sweet-talking you, darling. I'm speaking the truth. If only there were experts who could read my mind and heart, you could ask them. I'm sure they would tell you the truth. And if they lied, I would bribe them to say what I want them to say," Antony said again.Claire rolled her eyes. Ant

Antony stopped his car outside Claire's house and unlocked the gate with the spare key he had kept for a long time.Claire's car hadn't moved from its spot. It was still there since the last time Antony visited his fiancée's home, before Claire's family took her back.Who knows? Maybe Claire could hear the gate opening or maybe not. But one thing was clear: his wife did not welcome him at all because Claire's house felt eerily silent. Was Gladwin playing a trick on him? Who knows if Claire was really back at her house. He opened the front door and stepped inside, greeting her. Once again, there was no response. When Antony noticed Claire's bedroom door slightly ajar, he walked in.Claire wasn't there. All that was left was the small suitcase she had brought from the hotel room."Claire, sweetheart," Antony called out again, but still, there was no answer.Could it be that Claire left again after dropping off her suitcase and saw Gladwin leave? he wondered to himself.Antony continued
Quickly, Anastasia ran after Antony. She called his name repeatedly, but Antony chose to ignore her until her stiletto heels finally brought her close to him. She immediately reached out and grabbed Antony's arm, but he harshly brushed her off."Antony, listen to me. Please. I'm really sorry. I apologize," she said in a whiny tone. The woman tried to grab Antony's hand again, but he pushed her away once more, causing her to fall and kneel on the cold marble floor. Not wanting to give up, Anastasia wrapped her arms around Antony's legs, forcing him to stop."I'm truly sorry," she pleaded again, her voice desperate. She begged for the man's compassion, finally realizing that everything Antony had said in the room earlier was no joke. "I... I..." She couldn't find the words. "I'm sorry, please forgive me," she begged, tears starting to wet her face.Antony looked down at her with a sharp gaze. "Do you realize that what you're doing has crossed the line?" he asked in his cold tone.Anasta
Antony arrived at a luxurious five-star hotel located not too far from his family's hotel. As soon as he parked his car, he headed straight to the room Letizia had mentioned when he contacted his cousin earlier.Inside the lavish room rented by his ex-wife sat Antony's mother, Brianna Quirino, alongside her husband, Mr. Arthur. Meanwhile, Letizia stood with her hip leaning against the bar chair, her arms crossed over her chest.Don't ask where her children and husband were. Antony guessed that his sister-in-law was waiting for them somewhere. The three family members displayed different expressions, surely with different thoughts filled with questions that might mirror what was in Antony's own mind.On the other side of the room, right above the sofa facing away from the window, two women sat side by side. One was Anastasia, a woman he had pretended to date for work purposes. The other was his ex-wife, the woman he once loved deeply, who had given him a beautiful and devoted daughter.
But then Claire tried to clear her mind. She refused to believe that her mother could be so cruel to her; if that were the case, Claire might end up resenting her mother for the rest of her life.Disloyal? She didn't care about that word. Her face was already free of makeup, and her hair had been released from the beautiful tiara she had worn earlier. Now, the makeup artists helped Claire start to unbutton the lovely gown she had worn, which had so many buttons down the back.Once everything was removed, Claire opened her suitcase, searching for clothes. She decided to clean herself up in the bathroom that was in the dressing room.Feeling refreshed after showering and washing her hair, Claire put on the clothes she had chosen: a pair of jeans and a loose shirt instead of the dress Antony had picked out for her to wear on their honeymoon, which they were supposed to take right after the reception she was now reluctant to attend. No, she wouldn't just surrender herself to her husband a
The events proceeded according to the instructions from the host.Happy? Of course, Claire was happy. Especially seeing Bella's silly antics, who didn't hesitate to liven up the event alongside Gladwin and some of his office friends invited to the wedding, which surprised them as well. After all, Claire's absence from the office had already been quite shocking, and now they were suddenly presented with news of a wedding they had never seen any signs of."I had my suspicions when our big boss showed up at my wedding, and it turns out he was after the cheese in the sandwich," Chand whispered when his friend arrived with his wife. Claire could only smile in response to that accusatory remark.A snippet of the song that Adaline was singing on stage made Claire and Antony hold hands tightly, hoping that no obstacles would disturb them in the future.Guests began to dwindle. Amidst welcoming guests, they also took several photo sessions—not just with colleagues but also to capture moments w
