19: The Lost Memories

Raia's POV

What was that? I looked at both my hands and saw that it was still trembling. I don't know why but something suddenly went and popped in my memory. It's as if, it is my lost memory. 

Farm…

Goods…

That's it. I was the only one who knew about it. And also June.  

I was sitting in my bed while remembering those lost memories.

That night when I forgot everything, I smelled something...and saw Mr. Rayven looking at me. I'm safe to assume that he did something that time. Besides, he's the only one who went inside my room that night before I lost those memories. 

I looked at the window beside me. Then I suddenly saw something on the table. It was from Osamu. 

Ah yes...Osamu. Something suddenly freaked me out. 

My body moved on its own and took the lucky charm that Osamu gave me last time and then went to the door. I need to give this to Osamu. I also need to talk to him before he went to Mr. Rayven's room. 

I have a feeling that something bad will happen. Please be safe, Osamu. Don't go there yet. 

I run through the hall way till I reach the front of his door. 

"Osamu! Osamu, are you there?" I called but heard no reply. 

"Oh...Raia, is it?" I heard someone behind me so seems like he just had finished taking a bath and wearing only boxers. 

"Kenji! Did you saw Osamu? I need to talk to him," I exclaimed. 

"Ahh...yeah. I think he's with Mr. Rayven now, I saw him earlier and it seems like he's about to go to the other building... you know the transfer thin-"

"Thank you!" I didn't wait for him to finish talking and run towards the stairs. 

If he's with Mr. Rayven...then it could be the worst situation I could ever imagine. 

Please...please let him be there. 

I silently prayed that I was wrong. I should not be thinking bad about Osamu but I just can't help it...now that my memories are back. 

I was still meters away from Mr. Rayven's office when I stopped to catch my breathe. When I walked towards it, I saw that the door is slightly open. 

I touch the door knob first and observed the surroundings. I heard nothing from inside so I slowly went in. The room is filled with silence and darkness. I continue walking until I reach the bookshelves. 

There I saw a secret passage. The shelves are moved in the opposite direction and a stairs towards the basement could be seen. 

A secret passage… It seems like someone is inside that passage and forgot to close the door towards the basement.

It might be risky to go inside this passage but this is the only way to know where is Osamu. Little by little, I step forward and went down the basement until I saw a light. I stop for a moment and took a peek. 

My eyes went round and my body suddenly trembles when I saw whose in front of me. A guy no— a monster. I covered my mouth to stop myself from making any noise. 

"What the hell is that?" I asked myself while looking at Osamu. He was lying on the ground, and it seems like he's lifeless. In front of him are two guys...no— one of them are not a human at all. 

Beside Mr. Rayven, there is this creature with fangs and thick fur. He was like a wild animal but it can stand on his two feet. His appearance is quite strange as his body is full of scars. 

"Whi whi whi, I didn't expect this. Glutton didn't expect this heaven!!!" it shouted with delight and looked at Rayven's direction. 

I immediately hide and leaned on the wall. My hands are trembling from fear and I'm still covering my mouth to avoid myself from shouting or making any noise. I don't know how would I process this thoughts. 

What are they? Is Osamu dead? But why? And is he really Mr. Rayven? Who is that? 

And lastly...what is he even eating? 

I took a peek again and suddenly, a pair of eyes met mine. 

Osamu...

I could hear the racing of my own heartbeat. 

I could tell that he's trying to get some help. I don't know how hurt he is, not until that creature went toward Osamu and break his shoulder. 

"AHHHH!!!" 

Only Osamu's loud shout could be heard in the room. I gasped when I saw how it tear Osamu's hands. I could hear the pain from Osamu’s scream. I could even feel my hands trembling even more as if my own limbs got broen instead. 

I immediately stood up but remained my posture as I leaned on the wall. 

"What the hell?!" 

"AHHH!! AHHH!!" 

I could still hear him screaming in pain. It hurts me hearing those screams but I couldn't do anything to help him. 

"Glutton...I already told you, don't just tear someone's arms then eat, you're being rude..." I heard Mr. Rayven said. 

"Whi whi whi, I love seeing how they cried whi whi whi... It's so relaxing," the creature replied while grinning. 

"Tsk! I hate noises, especially from a guy," Mr. Rayven said while walking toward Osamu and in split of second, he suddenly thrust his hands and pierced Osamu's heart. 

My body can't stop trembling, and my mind went blank when I saw Osamu teared up while still looking in my direction. I could feel the pain and regret in his eyes...but all I could do for him is to stare.

I didn't noticed that I'm already crying while running out of the basement. I run as fast as I could but also as silently as possible. I couldn't afford to let them noticed me here. 

I...I can't afford to die here. I need to warn the others!! I knew something was not right...but I didn't expect this!

I was still clenching my fist with the lucky charm that Osamu gave to me on my hands. 

I'm sorry... I'm sorry Osamu. I couldn't help you... 

I can't help myself but cried when I reached my room. The hallway are empty and I think all of them are out now for dinner. That night, I didn't went outside to eat my dinner and spent the whole night crying while remembering what had happened. 

"What the hell is this place?!" I cried while my hands are on my head. I was frustrated. I wanted to talk to June. 

He's the only one I talked to about this thing before. But I don't know where to start. 

I took my handnotes and write everything that had happened. All the clues that would be helpful for me in solving this mystery. 

What is this place? What are they? Why did Mr. Rayven kill Osamu? And...what are we?

At last, I finally reached such a conclusion. 

Farm...goods... shipment

I don't want to believe it at first but...this is the reality. I can't deny the fact that Osamu died in front of me. I wonder if Fletcher died in the same way...but it's safe to assume that he also died. 

The other day...

After the class, I went to the library to do some research. As usual, others seem fine. I'm the only one who knows the truth so I won't blame them if they are talking with Mr. Rayven casually. 

While looking at Emma, who's now talking him, my eyes suddenly met Rayven's eyes. He smiled at me as if he's the most noble person in the world. 

I nodded and slightly smiled at him. I can't afford for him to suspect me that I saw what happened last night. After that, I continued walking to read these files that I took from the archives. 

I saw this book while looking at the archives. It was a document that records all the graduates during the past few years in this school. I don't know why it is in here, especially in the archives. 

This kind of documents should be in the frontal offices or faculties, right? So what does it doing here in archives? It's as if it was being hidden from everyone.

Almost no students are going to archive because all of the books there are outdated. Most of these books are not part of the curriculum anymore, so they are regarded as useless.

I borrowed the book and went to my room to read it. I don't know if this will help, but reading more references will give me more clues. Besides, if there would be someone who can decipher this mystery, it would be me. 

On the other hand, June looked at window while his hands are on his chin. It's as if he was in the cloud of his thoughts. 

Kanaye on the other hand, suddenly thought of something and went to June to surprise him. 

"Wahh!" He shouted when he did a surprise attack behind June. But the latter didn't even moved. 

"Eh?"

"What are you doing?" June asked him. 

"Uhmm...surprise attack?" Kanaye answered, unsure if it really is a surprise attack after June's reaction. 

June sighed and returned his eyes in front. The instructor had just left the room and the others are already packing their things. 

"Hey June, are you going back to your dorm right away? I'm going with Aki," Kanaye asked him. 

June looked at Raia. He noticed that he was in rush when he went outside after the instructor left. 

He frowned. 

"I wonder what he's been doing the last few days..." June asked himself. Even after their lunch, he's still thinking about Raia. He felt that he's trying to hide something. 

"Hey June, what are you thinking?" Aki asked June. That is the moment when June noticed that Amelia and Kanaye are on the counter. Aki and June were left alone. 

"N- nothing..." 

"Don't you dare lie to me, June. I know you...is there something bothering you?" she asked again. 

June looked down then sighed. 

"It's Raia..."

"Raia? Why is that?"

"I felt that he's trying to hide something..." 

Silence comes after his last words. Then Aki suddenly grin suspiciously at June. 

"Hmm... it's rare for you to notice those kinds of things, especially for someone who's not really close to you," Aki said while grinning at him. 

"It's not like that, Aki. He said something to me last time. He even fainted after that, so I don't know if he's hiding something or....maybe it's just my imagination," June said with low voice. 

Aki looked at him intently. She's about to say something but decided not to. 

"I bet it's nothing, June..." Aki said and looked away.

But for June, there is something that keeps bothering him. He doesn't feel like everything's alright.

Especially after Raia talked to him the day after.
