Chapter 39: The Brother's Truth

The relief that washed through me when I saw Ada open her eyes somewhat surprised me. However, that relief was short-lived when I could see the pain still reflected in her eyes.

Only moments before she had been crying and shouting as she lay before me…

Ada looked scared though, so I pretended to relax in front of her and gave her my typical smile. That always seemed to put all the girls at ease. It was harder than normal to accomplish though. There was a weight in my chest that made it hard not to look worried, but I still smiled for her.

Ada didn't smile back though.

"What are you doing?" she repeated, and I realized I never answered her.

I opened my mouth, but she began frantically looking around, looking confused and disoriented, and cut me off before I had the chance.

"Where's Bryson? Where am I?"

Ugh of course she'd ask for him first.

The longer she was awake, apparently the more questions she had. I reached forward to put my hand on her arm, to hopefully calm her
