Disconnected Koin He couldn't go back to sleep, but he could pretend. He felt exhausted. Azier was howling, going nuts behind the barrier Koin had put in place. When she first crawled into bed with him he felt relief, he was excited, he just wanted to pull her in and be close to her, she wasn't even crying, this wasn't just for comfort. Then the memories dug themselves out of his sleepy mind. She didn't want to be here. She was actively trying to get away from him. And he had made his decision. Even if it destroyed him he would not be some ghastly beast forcing her to stay chained to him. So, he would deny her. even when she reached out to him, he would not take the bait. It tore him up to put her out like that, to see the way it hurt her. the way he hurt her. again. Once she had left the door he fell back into bed and covered his head up. Connor was upset. He wanted Koin to go with him to take Thalia to these people like they had planned. he refused. His parents didn't ask or pus
Lucky Iyla She couldn't sleep at all that night. Between thinking of Thalia and the life they could build together, and the almost Magical place where the wolf packed live, her imagination was running wild. She knew better than to get up and run about, Ordia had already gotten on to her for her thoughtless behavior at the pack house. Morning couldn't have come soon enough, but Ash kept picking on her. "Wake up silly girl, time to eat." he teased putting a plate of eggs Infront of her. She rolled her eyes "Awh come on, you didn't think that was awesome? How come she's so miserable there?" Ash chuckled "Oh yeah, giant snarling wolves are Soo hot." Iyla shook her head sighing "You have no sense of wonder do you? that place was cool." Ordia came in smiling "You sensed the spirits there, they were playfully, and excited it seemed." Iyla perked up, always ready to hear Ordia talk about the hidden things "I think Rehida has some gifts as well." Iyla practically bounced in her seat "Oh she w
Gone ThaliaShe glared at Connor, all of the heart ache in her chest gone for a second. Why was he holding onto her? what gave him the right? why was Iyla so okay with cuddling up with a stranger. Connors words cut straight through her like a sharpened knife through softened butter. They were harsh. cruel. But true. She knew now that what truly mattered to her was Koin. Silly as it seemed, seeing her sister, Ordia, Oak and Ash were nothing anymore. Having Koin shove her out of the bedroom and ignore her was like a cold splash of water, waking her up from her angry dreaming. She couldn't even reply at this point. Iyla stood looking between Connor and Thalia, and Thalia really looked at her. They were not the same. Thalia had held onto every horrible memory, lived in fear and anxiety which eventually became this unbearable rage. But her sister was the opposite. Happy and excited, full of life, accepting of these people already. Where had she gone so wrong? She realized she was crying
Then and Now ----3 months later----- KoinHe drew back his axe, both hands gripping tight, and brought it down full force on the large log Infront of him. It split evenly, and he set the Axe aside, leaning it on the massive stump he used as a space to hold up the smaller bits. He picked up the two split chunks of wood and carried them a few steps away to toss them in the large open shack, now half full of wood being stored to dry for the winter. He took the moment to go get another beer, trying to add up the position of the sun in his mind. Straight over head, it was near noon then and he could switch to the harder stuff. This was his usual schedule. Up at dawn to hunt, with a gun now as Azier hadn't spoken to him for more than a month. Back in a few hours to clean his kill and ready it to be cooked later, starting his day with beer. He'd work on his wood pile in the late morning, then walk to town and trade his furs and
Man As Beast Koin He was nearly to town when a sudden blinding pain knocked him to his knees, he laid face down on the ground for a moment then flipped over on his back. There was a stab to his side, his eyes were open, but he didn't see the blue sky above the field he was walking through. He saw a dark ceiling, grey like cement, everything else was blurry, red dropped into his vision as he gasped in a breath. Fear overtook him, someone talking that he couldn't really understand. Another flash of searing pain, another only different against his thigh, digging in, working against him as he thrashed. Then it was gone. He was. There in the field, laying on his back with his arms and legs splayed out. Azier took over so quickly Koin didn't have a chance to process it before he was pushed to the back and blocked in. Koin's body was hardly well enough to shift, but Azier forced it anyways and bounced off to the right into dense forest. Koin wasn't sure he cared. He was riddled with inten
Walk into The Night Thalia Everything was moving fast. her head was swimming with a mixture of images. Only using one eye was one of the strangest experiences of her life. Iyla had brought water to her and when she reached out for it she missed the cup and laid her hand on Iylas wrist. Didn't matter the nurses didn't want her to drink water yet. just suck on ice. She felt like throwing up, but her throat was raw and sore. Loud noises sent a throb of pain through her skull. The nurses and doctor talked about her a lot, as if she wasn't really there. Was she there? sometimes she would want to say something, but the words never seemed to leave her lips. Her thigh and some of her waist was bandaged at her abdomen, she had some kind of tight wrap around her torso, her one hand wrapped in gauze, her leg had a cast from foot to her thigh. She couldn't remember anything at all. Iyla was ushered out of the room as the doctor came in. He asked her questions, but he was cold, precise, like sh
Not Another Hand Koin it was Azier that woke him, gnawing viciously at the back of Koins mind. Koin opened his eyes, and there she was. All bandaged up. what was visible of her face, mostly the right side, was bruised badly. A lot of her was bruised actually, her arms, what he could see of her legs before the bed obstructed his view. Her mouth was hanging open as she staired at him, he was going to sit up, to speak, but he was afraid she would run, or that it might be a dream. Then again in his dreams she was well, perfect. She blinked several times before she spoke, her voice surprisingly hoarse "Koin. I.." She looked apologetic, but the rest of her words didn't come out. Azier wouldn't wait anymore. He pushed to the forefront and then forced Koins body up from the bed. He picked Thalia up, not pausing for her gasp of pain and pulled her tight to his chest, so her face was close to his. She wrapped her legs around his waist though she stiffened as if that hurt as well, and then sat
Some Kind of Future Thalia Her head was spinning. Koin was back. He was different now, the time away had not been kind to him. or maybe he hadn't been kind to himself. him holding her in his arms actually made some of the pain edge away, and for the first time in what felt like forever she fell into a deep, comfortable sleep. She woke to Koins chest rumbling under her and jerked to sit up, closing her eyes as the pain rocked through her, making silence for her other senses. Connor was there now, and Koin growled at him? She had no time to ask or but in because as soon as Connor mentioned her needing medication Koin was lifting her, moving her gently as he fallowed Connor out and back to her room. She knew they knew about her being an unclaimed minor, but after she was asked and Dedrick notified nothing else was said. She had a chilling worry that they would send her to a girl’s home. After all she had been a lot of trouble. She was 17 now, only a year, then she could be on her own
Just to Say It Iyla Ordia was dead. Beyond any repair or hope she was gone before Iyla even opened her eyes. Gone and she had given her last day to protect her and her sister. All of this because of 1 woman that Iyla was sure was perfect. She couldn't comprehend it all. Rehida was the responsible for Thalia’s attack, but why? All of this was rushing through her mind, even as Connor sat her down under a tree to go help Koin and Thalia do whatever they were actually doing. She couldn't bring herself to ask. After everything she and Ordia had suffered together, she was taken away so quickly Iyla hadn't even had time to know it before she was no more. Thalia was on the phone with someone, talking quickly, Iyla watched her, her thoughts still moving backwards to that terrible place. The strange creature told her that she would server the Gods by serving her or him. Then Thalia dropped in, and the creature actually ran to hide. It gave an earie laugh, too much air and not enough feel
What Beauty Can Disguise Koin He and Connor had taken their seats again, watching from a distance as his mother moved around the circle with some kind of herb, smoke wafting from it in heavy plumes as she whispered something. Then Ordia came into view, slowly, studying Rehida. Connor sat up a little "Over here" He whisper yelled to her, but she never looked in their direction. She was very focused on what Rehida was doing, her eyes moving over the circle slowly. A strange sort of energy was beginning to build, even Connor could feel it and they both stood "Hey? What’s going on?" Connor called out, understandably feeling panicked. Rehida stopped moving to look up to her and the two locked eyes. "Traitor. Thief. I know your name now. I know what you've done. What you would like to do." Ordeia told her. Koin stepped forward ready to interfere with whatever battle was taking place when his mother’s face twisted into a sneer, an almost inhuman expression, the corners of her lips pulli
Till The Worldly Grave is DugIylaShe had been dreaming about the ocean, her and Connor along with Thalia and Koin all just enjoying a long beach day, making sandcastles and learning awkwardly, to surf. They had their first kiss. Their first beautiful, magical, perfect kiss. Then it was night. That quickly. She closed her eyes as he kissed her, opened them and she was alone with the stary night sky above her. It was amazing, but she noticed something floating out on the waves, rising with each crest. It appeared to be a body!! She screamed for help, but no one was coming. She couldn’t remember why, but she wouldn't waist time. She ran out into the shallows of the shore and dove into the deeper water to swim out and try to grab onto the body, but she could no longer see it. The waves were getting much bigger now, she couldn't manage it anymore. One wave would lift her then crash her down into the depths and by the time she resurfaced to take in a breath another wave would slam down o
Like Bones Digging Deep Thalia This whole situation was making her skin crawl. Iyla had talked to her weeks before hand about how her venture into the dream scape was her first try, and if Ordia hadn't been there she probably would have been to scared to go for it. Sure, Iyla was a little reckless, but usually her misbehavior was due to curiosity, not an outright want for danger. Why would she have just randomly gone for a walk? How had Rehida known so quickly? She couldn't get her mind to shut down for a long time, no matter how many deep breaths she took, something about what was happening was far more unsettling than their main focus. Iyla had been in the dream state all day, it was hard telling how far away she was, Thalia could only hope that these last few days with Koin and feeling grounded would center her enough for her to also find her way back. Her biggest help was the fact that Thalia had taken walks at least twice a week for the past few years, the dream scape was nea
Respect Your Elders KoinHe couldn't even begin to understand, the things his mother was describing mine as well have been in a completely different language. He still felt Connors panic, and Thalia’s as well. Connor sat on Iylas right side holding her hand while others rushed around, Thalia had scooted to put Ilya’s head in her lap and stroked her hair. All he could do was go get the things his mom requested and watch. He knew the basics, that these women could somehow disconnect their minds and metaphysical bodies to move around freely in the world, he had seen Thalia do it herself, catching him being a pervert the day she was brought here. What he did find odd was that Ordia had left and not returned. Ordia had been like a grandmother for Iyla, and from what he understood had practically finished raising her after the attack on their village. Why would she not want to be here helping. Finally, as dusk settled in Rehida ordered most everyone away, except Thalia, Connor, Koin an
Of Shadows in Dreams Connor School sucked without Iyla now, he never noticed before how much people complained. The adults and the kids all just had negative things to say. There seemed to be no actual escape from it. All day long. I'm tired. I have a headache. I'm bored. My phones dead and I don’t have a charger. I stayed up all night talking to my boyfriend so now I can’t keep my eyes open. It was never ending, and how did he not catch on before he met her? It was like no one could see the good in the day at all. Before going home, he and Koin stopped at a grocery store and he went in to get a little bouquet of sunflowers, some chocolates and a movie. Even if she couldn’t go to school they could be lazy in bed, he even preordered pizza to pick up on the way home. Only when he got home she was out. He snuck in and put the flowers on her bedside table before going to set up the little living room with extra pillows and throw blankets he had brought over from the main house. Ordia
Familiar Noises Thalia She was in some cave, a massive circular space with tunnels all around, at least 6. Someone is there. She can hear them faintly whisper. She can see the light of the fire reflecting off the wet stone, but every time she turns her head to look the flames and the form have moved, just shadow against the light. “Red is the rose which petals wilt, Red are these hands,Red the life blood, Blood of body, Blood of family, Blood these roots like bones digging deep.”The voice sounded familiar, but not at the same time, maybe once beautiful but it was now a sickly tone, a hissing whisper as if the words to bold to take real sound. Then she woke up. She gasped in breaths as reality settled on her, the cool morning air sneaking in the window. Koin was getting dressed by the closet and he smiled seeing her "Good morning." He came over slowly to kiss her head, but at the last moment she tilted her chin up and let his lips meet hers instead of her temple. He chuckled
Freaks at FestivalsIyla She would've settled for having her sister back and living pretty much anywhere but Louisiana. How could life get any better? Not only did she live in a beautiful place with great people, but she had a boyfriend!! He was the best; he was funny and smart and could toss her around like she weighed nothing. He even let her sit on his shoulders to pick cherry’s. Ordia liked it here too, her job was to help run the little day care down the hill while pack members did their usual daily work. If only Thalia was better and could come hang out with her, but she was having fun doing her hair in the mornings, Thalias hair was thick and curly and held so many tones of warm red and brown. She always liked her own hair, but it was kind of boring, always straight, never held a curl, or hairstyles either. School was great too, but Koin was always in a bad mood, and Connor became very serious when they walked through the doors also. She knew why, they were looking for whoev
The Foreboding Koin He couldn't believe his life was actually playing out the way that it was. Everything seemed perfect. Thalia was finally no longer fighting him, maybe she didn't talk constantly and divulge her whole life’s story, but she didn't push him away anymore, didn't try to run away with him. Every day he got to hold her, not just when she was crying. Every day they had breakfast and dinner together. Everyday felt like a dream come true, and while he wished she wasn't hurt, he was oddly enjoying taking care of her. To add to the blissful peace that had come into his life, his brother was more than happy. Ilya was just the girl for him and watching Connor stair at her dreamily made him chuckle often. He was like a goofy love-struck puppy dog. He felt a blossom of hope when Connor told him Iyla had not only seen his wolf but looked forward to hanging out with him in wolf form. He could only dream that Thalia will be so in love with Azier, cause the big guy was all about he
