SAMANTHA’S POV

My eyes opened slowly to the rays of warm morning sunlight seeping through the cream curtain linen. The rays were warm and cool but my eyelids felt heavy I clamped them shut. I pulled the comforter over my face and rolled to the other side of the bed.

Wait a quick second. Other side of the bed?

I sat up. Squinting my bleary eyes, I looked around the room, Lucas hadn't been home the previous night. I rested my back on the headboard, now I knew why my head felt heavy. I'd stayed up all night waiting for him till sleep enveloped me.

As I got out of the bed to change out of the pink silky nightgown to my bathrobe, I thought of different reasons why he'd not come back home. I got into the bathroom and settled for the glaring reason–work.

After his breakup with Audrey, to the best of my knowledge at least, he'd not been with another woman.

It was work. Work. Work. Work

For a second, it felt like a consolation but I quickly shoved it aside. It wasn't bad that I'd an idea where my "partner"
