Chapter III:Varstendum's

Veronica's POV    

"Your sister, Ma'am. It's from the firstborn, from Ma'am Victoria" She said that made me stunned. How?

My eyes got in teary in just seconds when I hear her name again. I look at our maid thinking that she was just trying to make a mickey but her sincere eyes prove that she's serious and telling the truth. Using my shaking hands I hold the box tightly so it's not going to fell on the floor. 

 I felt weaken

  "Before she goes on her business trip for a month In Chicago. She gave me this necklace, I've thought that it's her birthday gift for you when you turned 14 because It's your birthday on another day but she told me not to. I got confused when she said that I will give that to you when you are done with your study because that's her graduation gift for you. I even told her that It's still a long time to wait and I have the plan to give it to her again but she wants me to keep that for you.      

    I kept it as my promise to your older sister but when you graduated you didn't go home because you went to your condo instead. So I just thought that I will give it to you when  It's your birthday that's why"Our maid added that's why I leaned on the couch. My tears are streaming down my face and I  can't stop it anymore. I remember that day, I didn't go home after my graduation because I just remember my sister. She told me back then that she's not going to miss my graduation whatever may happen but she did. I hate her for leaving me.     

                                                                                                                                                         What is worst is she leave me on the exact date of my birthday. That's why I can't be truly happy when my birthday is coming because she's not here.

Our maid remains quiet watching my reaction. I wipe my tears and slowly open the box and it reveals the beautiful necklace.

 "Beautiful.."I whisper snd the wind blow in my face that made my hair got into my face. I place the strands that fell on my face into the back of my ear and get the necklace from the box.   

  "Do you want me to put that to you, Ma'am?"She asked and I smiled before I nodded. I hold my hair so It can't be a distraction to her. She looks at me after she put on the necklace and glance at me.   

  "You look more lovely, Ma'am" She compliment    

  "I need to go now, I have a meeting"I bid goodbye and get my purse. She gave me my coat.   

  "Take care, Ma'am" She lastly said before I start my engine. I wave at her before I close the window of my car. When I'm far away from the house, I stopped on one side so I'm not going to bother others.   

  My tears streaming down my face even though I wipe them. It's like waterfalls in my face. I breathe heavily to stop sobbing but I can't help it. My sob just got louder good thing no one can hear my sobs. I hold the necklace from Tori, My tears fell down my cheeks again.   

 "You're always thinking of me. I miss you so damn much"I whisper between my cries. After half of the hour, I decided to go now because I still have met and It's 6 pm now. I need to go to the company first to get some documents before I go to the restaurant. I retouched my face when I stop in the parking space.

"Miss, The Varstendum's just called minutes ago. They will be late for minutes" Lena announced when I sat on my swivel chair, she follows me and gives me some documents.

"Engineer Xenon will wait for your approval, Miss before they start the groundbreaking in Cebu" She added while I'm looking at the documents she gave. Engineer Xenon wasn't joined in the past meetings that's why he just said it to My Secretary. I still need to talk to him, though. I read some samples there and glance at my Secretary when I remember something.

'"Cancel my schedule at 3 pm tomorrow. I need to talk to Attorney Brent as soon as possible" I reminded her and she nodded. I glance at my laptop and did my final retouch when I noticed that I only have half of hour before my appointment. The restaurant is quite far that's why I guess I'm taking 15 minutes before I reached the Cdm's restaurant. That's a new restaurant and I heard that it's a good place.

"Noted, Miss" She answered and I remember the cake that our maid gave to me.

"Do you want a cake?" I asked at her and her face got lighten as if she heard something so favorable to her.

Tch, If about food. Lena is the number one who can't refuse. I get the box of cake in my drawer and put it on the table before I gesture her to go near.

"You can get a piece of came but don't eat all of them. I will go now" I said and held my purse. She nodded in instant and sat on my couch and put the box on the coffee table.

"You don't want to eat with me?" Lena asked while glancing at the cake.

"I'm late " I shortly uttered and she glances at me before she nodded as an answer. She stands up and I thought she's going somewhere but she just gets a plate. I leave her in my office and started to walk into the hallway. I step inside in the elevator when it opened and remain quiet while waiting to reach the ground floor.

"Good afternoon, Miss" Some employees greeted me when the elevator open. The shock and nervousness are written on their faces when they step inside the elevator. They keep at a distance from me that made me confused

Am I that intimidating? Oh, whatever.

"Good afternoon" I answered to greet them back in a formal way. They are older than me and I think they're in the Mid '30s while I'm 19. Many people can't explain the intelligence that running in my blood. They can't believe the fact that I finished my studies when I turned 18. The professors got tired of teaching me because I know all that they're teaching, I even correct some professors in the lessons when I am bored. Studying is boring for me because I already know the lessons. I exam in many international schools but they didn't accept me because my IQ was too high and my knowledge Is too wide. So they just decided to let me finish college at a young age.

Even my older sister, Tori. She did the same thing.

I was about to start my engine when my phone started to ring. I immediately answered it when I saw in the caller ID that it's Geraldine.

"Yes?" I asked while I was on my seat belt and get my earpiece so I can drive while I'm talking to her. I'm kinda late now, I glimpse at my wristwatch.

"I saw Hensley in the bar, Veronica" She started as her greetings. I heard the background music in the other line so I know she's in the bar right now.

"What?" I asked trying to confirm what did I just heard. My brows started to furrowed, Hensley never goes to a bar because she's an introvert.

How the hell she can get inside the bar? She's still a minor for Pete's sake.

"She's in the bar right now and....currently dancing. She's already tipsy I bet" Geraldine yelled a bit probably because of the loud music. I let out a heavy sigh.

"I don't know how she got inside here. The fact, that she didn't look minor and probably, she used a power?" She added as if she can read my mind and answered my question. I bit my lip, her guess is right probably, she used her power. The fact that our family is the most influential and highest business tycoon.

"Can you watch her for an hour? I just have to attend an urgent meeting and then I will go directly there, thank you" I pleased before I ended the call. I don't know what to do if my friends weren't there.

I stop my car when I reached the restaurant. I open the door of my car and glance at the restaurant. The entrance seems so fancy and the views are good. I think this will be listed as one of my favorite restaurants now.

"This way, Ma'am"The woman led me the way when I told her about the reservation. I walk confidently and didn't look at the people because my eyes remain looking in the way.

The woman led me to one of the VIP rooms and I must say that the place satisfied me so much. I've thought that Varstendum's will going to be late but I think I was wrong, I'm the one who got late. They're now sitting on the chairs. They stand up instantly when they saw me and I smiled.

" I apologize for being late. Good evening, Mr. and Mrs. Varstendum"I greeted politely and they genuinely smiled at me. We shake hands and greet each other.

"Always looking good, Ms. Molina" Mrs. Varstendum compliment. I smiled and didn't deny it anymore because I used to hear that kind of compliment.

"You too," I said and sip a wine on my glass when the waiter serves us wine. They look so professional, Good looking, and intelligent. I bet they're in the Mid '40s now but still looking young. I bet some people might get wrong in their age, they look so young!

I wonder if what their children look like? I'm sure they look so lovely.

"So, Let's start?" I asked and look at the documents

"Oh, Let's eat first. I ordered" Mrs. Varstendum answered and I nodded. I'm not aware that we will have dinner but since we're in the restaurant what I'm expecting, anyway. Mrs. Varstendum started a conversation while we're waiting for the food to serve.

"Your parents must be proud of you. They're lucky to have a daughter like you. You're so responsible and have a different mindset" Mrs. Varstendum started and I remain listening to her.

How I wish...

If my parents are the one who's saying all of that in front of me, I'm pretty sure that I will be the happiest woman in the whole world but then, I've never heard that from them. I don't even know if they have cared for me or only for my achievements.

"If I have a child-like you, I will be the happiest" She added and smiled at me. Her sentence made me glance at her. Her eyes are dazzling and she looks proud of me.

"Your child is lucky to have you as his parents, Mrs. Varstendum" I murmured trying to give all the compliments she's giving to me. Knowing that a stranger was proud of me made my heart melts.

Other people can do such things that my parents couldn't. I smiled bitterly.

" Oh, there he is"Mrs. Varstendum uttered while looking in my back, smiling. I didn't look behind my back and just wait for the person she is about.

His brows are furrowed, his eyes are brown and his lips seem so soft and pouty. He's looking at his parents as if he's forcing them to went here. I guess, he didn't yet recognize me. I can say that this man in front of me can turn head many people, hot and have charisma but I don't care anyway.

I glance at the documents planning to start the meeting now so we can finish it as soon as possible. I remember Hensley, I still need to go To a bar. My thoughts are just ruined when there's a hand appear in my face, I face up who is it and it is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Varstendum. He's now smiling and his brows were not furrowed anymore.

I stand up to formally greet him.

"Good evening, Mr.Nice to meet you" I uttered and accept his hand. He seems confused because of my formality. I almost rolled my eyes when he winked at me.

Oh heck. He looks like a playboy and I'm sure so many girls cried because of him.

"Hi, you can call me Hanz or love, babe just like that, Anything that you prefer" He playfully uttered but I didn't answer him and get my hand to him.

"Sorry, I don't have time for your stuff. Mind if you get out of my face?" I said and I almost glared at him but I remain calm. I think, he's a mess, and the way he acts...looks like a spoiled brat kid, tch

His brows furrowed but smiled after a minute. I've thought he's not going to bother me anymore but he went near to my ear and whisper something that made me annoyed.

"Sure, babe"
