It was a photo album, and it seemed like it was really old. Aurelia knew she should not be snooping around, but she needed to know what it was encompassing.
She turned the book open and then was greeted with a number of strange faces from the old Japan. She seemed confused as she looked at him now.
"I don't know these people. Do you expect that I would know them because I'm in her body? This proves nothing!" She said, closing the album.
"No, American. Keep going. You'll see," he said to her, urging her with his hand.
She let off a loud sigh and then opened it again.
She opened briskly until she happened upon the picture of a baby. She very well could have gone past it but then the eyes of the baby caught her spellbound.
There was something about this baby and she recalled the brown eyes. It was the same as the one she had started in the mirror along with the birthmark beside the right eye.
She touched the picture with her hand. The baby was remarkably cute, just like the lady.
"She's Nikamura?" She asked him.
"Yes. And you need to keep going." He urged her.
She started looking through the albums and soon noticed the much younger-looking Zayne in most of these pictures. He seemed to have a bond with Nikamura as in most of the pictures, he was playing with her. They seemed to have grown up together and at a point, she stopped seeing Nikamura's mom, followed by her dad.
Soon, there was empty pages in the album.
"What happened? No more pictures?" She asked him.
"My leader was too busy for such frivolities. She had things to do: empires to build and those to run," he explained to her.
"And her parents? I noticed I stopped seeing them at some point," she said to him.
"Dead." He said as he took the album from her hand set it aside on a table. "First her mother was killed in a staged car accident. They could not even pick a bone piece of hers from the bomb blast and then, it was her father. He was killed in an altercation. That's when Nikamura took over his empire and responsibilities."
"That's sad. Looks like she had no chance to be herself after them. She looked sad after I stopped seeing them." Aurelia noted.
"Now, I have proven my loyalty. You can give me your family details. I just need to confirm something." He said to her.
"What do you seek to confirm?" She asked him.
"Something." He responded.
"I don't trust you but I'll give you regardless. What do you need?" She asked him.
He walked away and returned with a pen and a jotter.
"I need your details, family, country, and addresses. I just need something to confirm your actual existence here." He said to her.
She took the items from him and started to write down everything he needed to know about it. It took a moment but eventually, she was done and handed it over to him.
"Here. So, what next?" She asked him
"You get some sleep and I'll go run my checks. That way, we'll think of what to do." He said to her.
He left her in the room and put off the light. Aurelia was instantly frightened.
"No!" She cried out.
Suddenly, light flooded the room and looked confusingly at her.
"What is the matter?" He asked her.
"I don't like sleeping in the dark. It scares me." She said to him.
This was another confirmation as to the fact that she was not his leader.
"Nikamura can never sleep with lights on. She was trained in the dark." He muttered.
"I'm not Nikamura. I'm Aurelia and I can't sleep in the dark." She said to him.
"Hmmm, of course, you're not her. I'll leave it on. Hopefully before we return to the mansion, we'll have sent you back to your body." He said to her.
"Wait, if this isn't her mansion, then where are we?" She asked him.
"One of her penthouses. This one is for her operation base. Her mansion is not so far off but sadly yet excited, I believe you would never have to see it." He said to her and walked away before she could say anything.
Aurelia let off a loud, exhausted sigh as she looked around her. This Nikamura must really be an accomplished woman by all ramifications.
She managed to slide down into the bed as she prayed she would wake up in her own body the next morning. She did not want to have to look Zayne in the face again or be a reminder of why he should be angry.
She had no idea what time it was when she woke up the next morning feeling like her bladder would burst if she did not visit the restroom. Apart from the door where Zayne had left, there were two other doors adjacent to each other.
She struggled to sit down and felt sharp pains in her abdomen like some razor-sharp teeth were cutting through her. Yet, she kept struggling until she sat up eventually and brought her leg down next.
She hesitated before she started trying to stand up. Her legs felt feeble but she took the time to let it recall what it used to feel like, standing.
Aurelia could not help but notice how her head wobbled in spirals and started to manage her way towards the first go to, door. By the time she started walking towards it, she was a little better but still in pain.
She had just gotten to the door and pushed open when she realized it was a closet.
"Damnit." She muttered as she looked at the other door.
It was at this moment that the door opened and Zayne walked inside bearing a tablet. He caught sight of her and quickly set it on the table beside him as he rushed over to her.
"What do you think you're doing? Do you have a death wish or something?" He demanded.
"Perhaps if you had been nice enough to pull my bed close to the restroom, I wouldn't have to go so far," she said to him angrily.
"The restroom is over there." He said, pointing to the restroom.
"You think I haven't discovered that?" She demanded.
Zayne assisted her to the restroom and waited outside for her to get done. Then next, he had to take a look at her wound that had been disturbed. He took his time cleaning the surface as she lay still.
"You find what you were looking for?" She asked him.
"Yes." He responded.
"And?" She asked him.
"And there's good news and bad news." He said to her.
"What is the good news?" She asked him.
"You're not dead but in a coma, which means there's nothing we can do now because she's probably trapped in your body." He said to her.
"That is hardly good news." She said to him.
"I know. I had to classify in contrast to the selected bad news." He responded.
"What's the bad news then?" She asked him.
"You would have to play Nikamura's part pending when your weak body is away. That means I'm stuck with trying to teach you everything she knows because ours is a dangerous world." He said.
"Hmm, figures I have no choice. It'll be until when I heal then." She said to him.
"No...we start immediately. There's an auction coming up and we need you to be Nikamura no matter what." He said to her.
"How do you want to achieve that?" She asked him, sarcastically as she did not see the possibility.
"We need to get rid of that American accent of yours. It's disgusting." He said and she grimaced.
Today would mark the resolution of her engagement, and Aurelia's only wish was for the smoothest possible entry into married happiness.Ever since her mother passed away years ago, she has not felt truly cared for by anyone."You should stop worrying, Miss. I'm certain that he would like you," her maid Nella said."It's not just about worrying. I mean, I sure have been looking forward to this, but I cannot help but wonder, What is he like? Apart from what we saw at the family dinner, would he be really cool? I mean, you saw him that day, didn't you? He was rather stiff," Aurelia said, and the two of them began to giggle."Ahem." Nella croaked what seemed to be a warning sign, and Aurelia straightened up as she turned to stare at her father's wife. She was not her stepmother, as far as she was concerned. Her father might be married to the distasteful Lady Florence, but she would never come to accept her."You're not ready?" the woman demanded sternly."Like you care?" Aurelia demanded.
Nikamura fixed her gloves one last time as she checked to see if her gear was set for the night. For too long, she had awaited this moment where she would get the kingpins of the underworld together and eliminate them all at once. She was the current most dreadful female in the entire underworld of Japan, and everyone believed she had control over the deadliest assassins. There was only one person who knew about her and the assassin being one, and that was an old man, Zayne.Zayne had been working for her late father before he extended his services to the daughter of the man, who had been nothing short of nice to him. She tried opening her eyes the first time, but everything seemed a lot blurry, but she could not help but struggle. The scent of blood was all over the place, as strong and arid as it seemed. She could hear someone sobbing beside her, and from the tone, it was a male. Perhaps her father. At least someone had found her. Momentarily, she closed her eyes as she braced herself to try again. This time, it took a moment, but she finally adjusted to the light in the room. "There seems to be a misunderstanding here," she said, trying to sit up."You would do well to stay still and get out of my leader's body," he responded."I don't think you understand. I don't even know how I got in here, okay? But I'm not a demon, and I don't want to be here either." She responded to him.Zayne was beginning to lose his patience. She was playing games with him, but he was in no mood to do the same. He had heard tales of how dubious demons in the past would inhabit freshly dead bodies or those in coma, preventing the owner from returning.Even if Nikamura were dead, he would rather have her body pure and not contaminated."You're a lying demon, I see. What fiery pits are you from?" He demanded from her."Don't you get it too? I'm no fucking demon!" She yelled at him and instantly regretted that move as a sharp pain swept through her body like a wave. She flinched and saw him take the safety off the gun.Wait, he really was going to kill her then. She realized that she
